Prone & Forced Movement: Saving Throw or No?

You fall prone so you can "grab something" to stop you from being pushed over a cliff. If you are already prone, you still can "grab something". it isn't the falling prone that saves you, its what you do while prone, so starting from prone in no way inhibits your ability to not fall off a cliff.

    Throwning weapons

The biggest problem with throwing a great axe is how badly it fails to qualify as a improvised ranged weapon due to its weight. I'd say a battle axe (6lbs) is basically the next size up of throwable objects. 1d6 damage, range 2/4, use str and two hands to heave it. It does not return, but it...

    Martial Power Preview

I agree that the wisdom Key off is synergy with the wis to OA, and other fighter abilities. Its not the best ability to key off of, but its hardly a death blow to the power. Remember, its actualy wisdom+1 you slide them, from your other ability. All in all its okay, and has some good uses...

D&D 4E How does the 4E Barbarian Rage ability work?

What is the possible reason you'd want/need to use rage strike at level 1 instead of raging? Assuming all rages deal 3W (pretty solid guess so far) you get ZERO benefit, in fact you lose out on alot of benefits for not doing it. There is no downside to raging that would make you not want to...

    Query about final confrontation

Here's how i see it: 1) they wanted the frenzied berserker to have an ability to initiate a sort of "Keep swinging until one of us is dead" 2) they didn't want it to be unavoidable death for one or the other (ie a buffed, high resistance barbarian never missing and never taking damage OR a...

PC Encounter vs. Evil PC's XP?

Yeah, 4 level 1 PC's vs 4 other level 1 PC's (albeit controled by the DM) should be a 50-50 tpk, at least in ball park figures, assuming its a fight to the death. Neither side has an advantage (which normally should go to the players, else the campaign quickly grinds to a halt), assuming the DM...

    Conjuration attack bonus modifiers

With the rules the way they are, if it would affect a clerics ranged attack, it will interfere with spiritual weapon. Cover is slightly tricky, Sp. Weapon conjures a weapon in the opponents square, thus its kind of impossible to have cover from the weapon. thus if the DM rules that the...

    Conjuration attack bonus modifiers

Interesting. Concealment would defintiely apply, the attack isn't close or area so it logically has a chance of missing (the cleric is directing the attack, it uses his wisdom, etc, so fluffwise he needs to have a clear view of the attacker if you need to justify it) Prone...i don't recall...

D&D 4E How does the 4E Barbarian Rage ability work?

It isn't actually encouraging you to blow through you're dailies. A Fighter is perfectly able to blow through all of his dailies in one encounter, and will get the full benefit of every single one of them. Its up to the players self control to keep him from doing this. How is a barbarian...

D&D 4E How does the 4E Barbarian Rage ability work?

The only reason barbarians have this feature is because of a problem that doesn't start until level 5, namely rages don't stack, so being in a rage kind of limits your ability to use other dailies. This is a problem no other class has (so far) so this is the first time we've seen delayed...

    Dual Wielding

Rangers that choose the two weapon style can use any one handed weapons, they get an ability that specifically says this, other classes (including rangers that choose archery style) must use off-hand weapons in their off-hand.

D&D 4E How does the 4E Barbarian Rage ability work?

I'll give an example: lets say you have this rage, level 1 rage: Mad Dog rage: str VS AC hit: 3W+str miss: half damage effect: you enter the mad dog rage, you gain +1 fort. so when bob the barbarian is in a fight against a bunch of goblins and he wants to enter his rage, he uses the daily...

    Barbarian is up!!!

Rage is not the barbarians 'main thing'. Charging and hacking is its 'main thing' and it gets to do that all day long. Raging is a significant boost to the charging and hacking, and is therefore limited. The barbarian has no more incentive to burn through his dailies than a fighter or rogue...

    Barbarian is up!!!

Rage strike is a class feature, NOT an at will attack. You get your two at wills AND you get rage strike, just the same as how a wizard gets two at wills AND 4 cantrips. Rage strike is a barbarian cantrip (.....well not really, but its the same idea) consdier the suggested build. Suggested...

    So...no Arcane Archer in 4e D&D??

The Prc for Arcane Archer was pretty lack luster. You got the imbue arrow, from which you could fire several low level spells, and 4 once per day abilities. They never did the idea justice, IMO. You could make it work, but it really could have been better. And while the concept is a good one...

    Attacking An Empty Space

Force orb only makes the secondary attack if it hits. So logically you can't target "nothing" with it and just have it explode, it needs to smash on something. you could target the floor to about as much effect, or a chair or a flag pole. I'd probably draw the line somewhere before...

    Impilturan Demonslayer

More importantly i can't see him doing this and benefiting in some unfair way or some way that strains reason. Worst case senario, a ranger takes TWF style for toughness, but takes only ranged powers/stats etc and then wants to take battle field archer because the TWF PP's don't work with his...

    Impilturan Demonslayer

It is pretty nonsensical for rangers to be the only class whose PP's remain inaccessible to characters with the proper multiclass feat (all of the PHB ranger paragon paths also have weapon style requirements). I thought it was in the FAQ's somewhere that the MC feat qualifies you for Ranger...

    Opportunity Attacks

Drinking a potion of healing causing oppurtunity makes drinking a healing potion in combat a pretty unattractive gamble, it can end up costing more health than it heals. In 4e, combat is the only time (for the most part) healing potions are needed/useful, since during short rests you can just...
