    [ELH] Automatic Metamagic and 'Order'

Wrong. Very wrong. Only Heighten Spell actually changes the level of a spell. Otherwise, you always use the level of the original spell, for purposes of saving throws and determining what level an effect is (i.e. detect magic, these automatic feats, a rakshasa or nightshades immunity to...

    Drawing Weapons While Charging?

Re: Re: Drawing Weapons While Charging? Drawing a weapon is not a free action unless you have Quick Draw. Otherwise, it is only a special circumstance that can be stacked with "a regular move". That is, a single move or a double move, but not a run, charge, teleport, etc. -Fletch!

    Level Loss BROKEN??

The DnD FAQ is the official mouthpiece for rules clarifications. I could not find it in the PHB or DMG, either, but that does not make it less real (unless you play via the books with no errata or anything). -Fletch!

"Good" Deep Woods Sniper + poison

Chop of legs, reduce Str or Dex to 0. How is this different? Which one is 'good'? Shoot with arrow in the head, reduce Con to 0. How is this different? Which one is 'good'? You've some twisted notion of good and evil, my friend. Any non-Con poison is the same to me as doing subdual...

Non-moral gaming? (i.e., shades of grey, not black & white)

It is in a shades of gray campaign that oyu see the best roleplaying. If your professed alignment makes your decisions for you, then you can 'hide' behind it and let the alignment definitions roleplay for you. Our current game has alignments spread in an "L": NG, N, CN. Everybody has...

Societies: Lawful and Chaotic; What Are They?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: hrm Yeah, and that was what killed it for me. My current character was planned out in detail from 1st level to 20th, and now being at 19th, I can see that it was fun to realize the plan but it did take something away from the game. It's not like the abilities for...

Make your own of course assumes you have the time and inclination to do so. The DF stuff is very durable, while plaster of paris is notoriously brittle. How often do you want to make replacement pieces. You'll be making and painting a hundred pieces... -Fletch!

Societies: Lawful and Chaotic; What Are They?

Re: Re: Re: Re: hrm I was not referring to your decision in any way. That you have found something that works for you, and communicate it to your players would be more than enough to make me happy as a player in your campaign. I had never played a bard before, and was unfamiliar with the...

No, they do not have a piece as you describe. It winds up making things get off by a half-inch, and can be frustrating. I'm sure you'll work it out, though.

    Are lessons learned through D&D?

And I would disagree profoundly with this. Anything that causes you to go off and research something, to broaden your horizon even slightly teaches you a lot. Initially learning that you hold the key to your own education is an important lesson that many people unfortunately never learn...

Societies: Lawful and Chaotic; What Are They?

Certainly. You will run across the occasional gamer who feels they have been blessed with Absolute Truth, though, and the more absolute their Truth, the more they feel the need to educate those around them. Such a person can be difficult to game with or discuss things with, regardless of...

Societies: Lawful and Chaotic; What Are They?

It is equally true that the G-E axis is also a complete spectrum without 'points'. The trouble is that people have a harder time believing that. Remember tha alignment is a tendency, and nothing more. A neutral character that commits one or two blatantly evil acts does not become evil, any...

    Dwarven Forge Products

I have a fair amount of DF, and it is super cool. The main problem is that it is very difficult to replicate published dungeons with the stuff. I sent them an email, and they said they are coming up with a program or something like that to help you design DF compatible layouts. I won't buy...

    Level Loss BROKEN??

1 is an auto-fail for saves (as well as attacks); it's in the rules. You are supposed to roll separately for each level if you have multiple negative levels. Level loss is harsh by any account. My arcane archer got hit with some level loss and lost +2 arrows. Then we came up against a Vrock...

"Good" Deep Woods Sniper + poison

There are no alignment restrictions on poison in 3E. Does it matter if you disintegrate, chop into little bits, incinerate or use a little poison against the 'bad guy'? If you want to hold this over from previous editions, that's fine. But rules are poison is OK for anybody, good or bad...

    Arcane Archer busted?

I would actually rule (if I were DM instead of player in the case), that if you said "I shoot the person in the tree", and there are actually two, you would miss because the ability could not pick. If one on them shot an arrow at you, you could specifiy "the creature that shot the arrow at me"...
