Creatures By Poll - Monster #3's attributes

It should probably have a few inate qualities regardless of its stolen attributes.

[Rant] Armor as DR is bad !

Re: Re: [Rant] Armor as DR is bad ! I doubt the wide use of the rapier or foil in latter medieval times could have happened without the coevolution of firearms, which made armor obsolete. True to their name, there would have been no musketeers without muskets.

Creatures By Poll - Creature Concept for Monster #3

Could be another "slam dunk Vermorte" scenario, where the front-runner is suddenly ganged upon.

    Hybrids

I say take the new suggestions and run with it. Three comments: ..The spell may be misguided, but it's no more evil than polymorph. ..Don't eliminate the INT factor. Genetics are complicated. ..Replace the lifespan formula with a chart if it's too complicated. One question: ..After these...

    Hybrids

It does require tissue samples from the two animals, so it really doesn't create new species from scratch. But maybe you're right about requiring living animals to make the spell considerably more difficult. But that would mean it could only be used right before or between adventures, making it...

Polymorph Any Object to raise the size? So why should Hybridize Beast be consider 9th level when PAO is only 8th? Polymorph Other is only 4th level, and seems like it's even more powerful for low-level spellcasters than Hybridize Beast. The cost in consumables is 30 g.p. per HD. That could be...

    Assigning Turn Resistance

Monster Manual Undead don't seem to have any formula. Anything you apply to try to reverse-engineer turn resistance would be inconsistent from monster to monster. If you want a formula for your original undead (or outsiders) Turn Resistance, it should follow some logic (or else why have a...

    Terrifying new monster! DUCKNOID!

If you really want a serious response, here's my two cents: "Insanitizing" sounds like the opposite of "sanitizing", as if the duck just had a dirty bill. Maybe "maddening bite", "deranging venom". Also, the creature goes somewhat against the 3E idea that Bat Mites, Pikachus and Scrappy Doos...

Mass Increase = Falling Damage Increase

Actually, I was thinking about mass rather than hit points. The physics formula is: FORCE (which is what does damage) = MASS (the weight of the falling creature) * ACCELERATION (which is how gravity is expressed) So even though objects fall at the same rate of acceleration (minus friction)...

And those aren't even dog years! Anyway, I prefer charts to formulas, but I think the formula should also go into the spell for those epic-level situations. That is, if the spell is acceptable at all.

Mass Increase = Falling Damage Increase

Falling damage should escalate with size classification: Fine 1d4 per 10 ft., 10d4 max. Diminutive 1d4 per 10 ft., 12d4 max. Tiny 1d4 per 10 ft., 15d4 max. Small 1d6 per 10 ft., 17d6 max. Medium-sized 1d6 per 10 ft., 20d6 max. Large 1d8 per 10 ft., 25d8 max. Huge 1d8 per 10 ft., 30d8 max...

Tome of Horrors - Evil Nitpicker at work!

I'm sure they'd appreciate help on the errata, no matter how much it might sting.

    Hybrids

Doh! That's what I get for trying to do math in my head. Even at 25 INT & 30th level, it would only be about 800 years. I don't know how I got 900 before.

    Hyenas

I'm just playing off the 1e concept linking gnolls and hyenas. But I suppose I should bring them back into a real world description. Edit: I just changed "usually satisfied with carrion" so it wouldn't seem their preference, removed the evil reference, and added low-light vision since they're...

    Hybrids

Yep. That's right. The chart lifespan figures are rounded, of course, but should be good enough for government work. A 30th level wizard of 19 INT, for instance, could create a beast that lives over 900 years. IMO, that doesn't seem too long for a creator of godlike ability, but a DM could put...

    Hybrids

Maybe the more powerful spell should allow fossils of prehistoric beasts (natural, non-composite and non-magical) to be used as components, in order to bring some size into the mix without having to use whales. ;)

How many Gargantuan and Collossal animals are there to choose from as a base, anyhow?

    Hybrids

The problem isn't that this spell doesn't work at high levels, but that there's no cap on the spell. Gargantuan doesn't come at enough penalty, so I'm taking out the last CON penalty. I just realized the duration of control is too long, also, such that a 14-th level wizard could create and...

    Hybrids

That's the problem. As is, all one suffers for going from Huge to Gargantuan with this spell is -1 on CON. Maybe the CON penalties should ncrease suddenly past Huge.
