Invisible Things can't Flank: What's the big dealio?

" [The simple fact that you're actively moving in not-so-predictable patterns is enough to not make you helpless, even if you ignore the threat. Rather than making you helpless with regard to opponent B, I would consider you flat-footed WRT opponent B. You don't have your Dex bonus to AC...

Invisible Things can't Flank: What's the big dealio?

Well the problem with ignoring a threat to avoid being flanked is that the whole hit point system assumes that you are making some attempt to avoid being killed by your enemy, even when you are stunned or just don't know he's there. When you say that you ignore a foe, that's like saying your not...

Invisible Things can't Flank: What's the big dealio?

The problem with allowing a target who is aware of an invisible person to be flanked is that it means he is penalized for being aware. Not noticing the invisible person sneaking up on you should never be an advantage. The problem with the sages ruling is that it builds in a disadvantage to...

For Nail: Does no Dex bonus mean automatic failure on reflex saves?

Well it's always fine by the letter of the rules to apply circumstance modifiers to saves in situations like this. Ultimately it becomes a matter of DM opinion. A DM who chooses to do this is technicaly following the rules just as well as one who doesn't. Personaly I think a circumstance...

D&D 3E/3.5 How viable is a Elven Fighter Mage in 3.5

I think an eldritch knight probably works better as an archer. You keep a high BAB, and you don't have to worry about your low hit points. The extra feats are quite useful too. The only problem is that the best personal combat enhancing spells are usualy defensive (blink, displacement, mirror...

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Scry

I'm pretty sure there has to be some kind of visible or noticable effect in order to make a spellcraft check. You can't use it to say detect invisible people and the like.

How do we really want combat to be?

I don't know, I find that characters at high levels may have alot of hit points, but they often can dish out a major amount of damage as well. Rather then having my fighter who is cleaving his way towards the lich suddenly killed by a death spell, I'd find it far more dramatic to have him hit...

    Disintegrate vs. Slay Living

Disintigrate is now more of a utility spell with combat applications then a combat spell. It's probably worth taking for any high level caster for it's ability to destroy walls of force and similar effects alone. The fact that you can turn it into a so-so combat spell when you need it is a bonus.

    D&D 3E/3.5 Is Briar Web a 2nd level spell in 3.5e?

If nothing else, briar web needs some kind of damage cap, like d4+5 or something. At higher levels the damage it does really starts to add up, and it can really put casters right out of commision. Personaly I like the idea where it just does d4 flat out. Even wizards don't get to do that much...

D&D 3E/3.5 Can Druids use the Longspear in 3.5?

Remember a druid can still use a long spear (or greatsword or longbow) he just needs the proficiency for it.

    Dragonhide Armor

"Originally Posted by Spatzimaus kreynolds gave the book answers, but this is one of those things that screams HOUSE RULE!!!! to many people. If the only benefit of dragonhide is that druids can wear it, why bother?" I wouldn't quite rate that as why bother. If your a druid, that's a huge...

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Darkness Spell 20% ?

Darkness is one of those spells that was almost never used by players, but could sometimes be used by monsters to slaughter opposing parties (well at least until they rules that everburning torches negate it). As a result I'm not too disapointed to see it go. It might be annoying for the...

Stacking fire and ice magical effects for weapons.

I find if you use your imagination enough you can justify anything no matter how silly it is. With that being said, I try to keep my silly thing justifying to a minimum and as a result I probably wouldn't allow a weapon that was hot and cold at the same time.

Blind Spellcasters -- You don't face any direction.

"IF true, this is silly and inconsistent. I haven't found one instance of "behind" regarding sneak attack or any other combat in any core book." Please read what I wrote more carefuly. The rogue does not get the bonus because he's behind the enemy, he gets it because he sneaks up on his enemy...

Blind Spellcasters -- You don't face any direction.

The wizard can say things like "I target the space I last saw the enemy in" or "I throw the lightning bolt down the corridor I saw the enemy in before being blinded". Facing is irrelevent. And as people pointed out, you go get a bonus for sneaking behind somebody because if you hide and sneak...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Wood Elves [3.5]

"In comparison, half-orcs still suffer from losing 4 points and gaining only two, but it's somewhat balanced out by their having orc blood." Half orc blood is not a particular advantage, and it's the only thing half orcs get except dark vision. Elves get weapon abilities, save bonuses, spell...

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Wounding blade broken?

Both of which would probably ensure that wounding was considered weak. It already does less damage to all but the highest level opponents and doesn't work on alot of enemies. If your going to add another weakness it should be something pretty minor.

    D&D 3E/3.5 Wood Elves [3.5]

Hmm well in living campaigns wood elves were considered to be the most broken racial choice. So I would consider it a bad thing to dump their -2 cha. They certainly put half orcs to shame now.

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Wounding blade broken?

"As you said, it does 'about the same' damage as unholy or two energy enhancements, which cost the same amount - and then you get the Con modifier for free." Yeah but a holy weapon has extra bonuses that it bypasses good DR which is a huge deal. And I think there are alot more creatures immune...

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Wounding blade broken?

It's powerful certainly but I don't think it's more powerful then what you could get from a similar +2 enchantment except maybe at very high levels. If your enemy has 10 HD then essentialy every hit will do 5 extra damage to them. It also lowers fort saves by 1/2 per hit. Unless they are immune...
