Why the D20 system has no merits and flaws system ?

Roleplaying is its own reward If you want to play a shy cleric - go for it. If you do really well, then maybe some extra rping XP for you. Same goes for cowardly rogues, brash fighters, etc. If you want your barbarian to be an alcoholic or your mage addicted to mana dust, be my guest. I see no...

    Is The Paladin Weak?

Paladins aren't heros because they are the best, but because what they do is hard and others are unwilling. It is more heroic to hold the line and fight a foe that you know is superior martially. It is easier to spend all your time learning to fight than to spend time pondering what is right...

    [FR] Waterdeep in Ashes

What about a defeat that is less than total? Lots of posters had stated that Waterdeep itself is impregnible due to its powerful magical defenses, significant physical defenses, large size and number of powerful characters. And this is all true. If you want to credibly shatter Waterdeep, you...

    Is The Paladin Weak?

The paladin's strength is that he keeps going The paladin's key abilities I think are divine grace, aura of courage, divine health and lay on hands. The paladin doesn't flee before the evil cleric's fear spell or cower when the dragon flies overhead. The paladin endures flames and poisons...

Fighters screwed, wizards overpowered in 3.5!

Man, as a fighter, my life suxs now that 3.5 is coming out. All these changes totally nerf the fighter! I can no longer be bull-strengthed all day. This means spell-casters will be taking cool spells like web and invisibility and flaming sphere, rather than just buffing up my already impressive...

How long does a hat of disguise work

How embarrasing. Thanks for pointing out the link that was right below my nose.

How long does a hat of disguise work

The way I figure it, the hat duplicates the effect of a change self spell (10 min/level). Since you need to be a 3rd level caster to create wondrous items, then the disguise effect lasts 30 minutes. However, you can use the hat an unlimited number of times per day. Am I correct here?

Dungeon Magazine Poll in Response to Jonny Wilson's statement

I like the minigames, but I still want more adventures This is how I think the magazine could best be fixed: 1) provide at least 4 adventures every issue. They can be short ones, but you need to provide variety - that's what makes Dungeon so great. I don't subscribe, so I'm only going to buy an...

    Goblin Hordes

Re: How would you defend your subterranean kingdom? The Sword and Sorcery monster books ("Creature Collections") have some cool goblin variants. My favorite are the spider goblins with compound eyes and multiple arms. Dual-wielding shortbows!

Armour Dilemma: Am I Wrong Here?

How to fix the problem Simple, have a second group of vampires burst into the bedroom and attack the group suiting up. I'd give them a -2 circumstance bonus for being caught with the (chain) pants down, but at least it would give them something to do. And if the players put up a good fight...

Is it safe to allow a spellfire wielder?

I'm starting a new FR campaign with 5th level players. One of them wants to run a spellfire wielder. I've briefly looked over the rules in Magic of Faerun and it seems to me like spellfire wielders are unbalancing trouble. And yes, while I could always throw crazed zhents and dragon cultists at...

    A Tavern Full of Adventurers

The Premise: the Regent of Cormyr has issued a call to adventuring parties to gather at a particular tavern. The next day, she will issue quests to various groups. The night before she issues the quests, the Regent plans to mingle incognito amongst the adventuring groups to get an idea of their...

Why Does Concealment Afford the Same Miss Chance...

Think of it this way A Blur spell reduces your chance to hit by 20% rather gives a flat 20% miss chance. After all to hit you have: (attacker's base % to hit) x .8 So the more skilled attacker still hits more often then the less skilled attacker. And the more skilled defender (and by that I...

does anyone think sunder is too easy?

Just make it impossible to Sunder a magical weapon unless your sundering weapon has more pluses (including enhancements) than the sundered weapon. i.e., a +2 sword can sunder a +1 sword, but not a +2 sword Typically, players have better plusses than the mooks, but less than the big bads. So...

Why is Str used for melee attack rolls instead of Dex?

Bring in the physics To confuse matters rather pointlessly, I humbly submit the following equation: Acceleration = Force / Mass The speed of a weapon in combat is determined by its acceleration (since a weapon rapidly changes vectors). The force of a melee weapon is the application of muscle...

    Too much DnD

I don't want to make like of the current political situation, or get into debates about the morality of the war with Iraq, but I do wonder... When the news reports yesterday announced that the US had fired cruise missles at a location where they believed Saddam to be, declaring it a "target of...

    Simple fix for multi-classed spellcasters?

It's not that I'm trying to make the multi-classed spellcaster an equal to a straight spell-caster in a smackdown. But the general consensus amongst the gamers I know is that it's stupid to multi-class a spellcaster at all. None of my gaming group has tried it, figuring that they would fall...

    Simple fix for multi-classed spellcasters?

Brilliantly simple - and probably about the boost I'm looking for. I'll have to use this rule for my new campaign.

    Simple fix for multi-classed spellcasters?

I'm not worried about a 10th level character who can manage a 5d4 magic missle attack that does 17 pts of damage average. Woopie, that same fighter is already more dangerous with a bow of strength and a a few magic arrows. As for your second example. Either 15th level characters are already...

    Simple fix for multi-classed spellcasters?

I think i have a simple fix for the problem of multi-classed spell-casters who feel that they give up too much... ...all spells are now cast using your total character level, not the spell caster level. For example, a fighter 5/wizard 5 casts a 10d6 fireball, not a 5d6 fireball, and a rogue...
