What were the problems with 2nd ed?

I actually play 2e currently -- not by choice, mind you, but a game with friends is a good time regardless of system or edition. It's the edition everyone knows reasonably well, and the group owns tons of 2e books. Truth be told, we have a lot of fun despite the system. I hope to convince...

D&D 4E Wizards to run 4e Demos before June

Yeah, that is surprising. Fortunately for me, Anoka is closer. :D And WTF, Park Rapids has a gaming store?!

Hey WotC! Can we get leveled-up versions of the DDXP PCs?

Exactly. IIRC, the original release date for KotS was May 5; now it's May 20. I'll probably still purchase it, but since it's so close to the release of the core books, I probably won't be running it. Yup, I'd just as well use unofficial stuff gleaned from this forum, but it doesn't hurt to ask...

Hey WotC! Can we get leveled-up versions of the DDXP PCs?

We've had some great fan-created adventures posted on this site, and a bunch of really entertaining and informative playtest reports as a result. I've been considering putting together a little adventure for my group to see how they like 4e (and would post it here, natch) but I'd like to go a...

    Non-Newtonian movement...

Movement in combat is an abstraction. Looking at it too hard, especially if you "expect consistency", is going to cause headaches. Characters take turns moving and acting based on a strict ordering! It makes no sense!

    Come again? I don't understand.

    Non-Newtonian movement...

Ever go for a walk with a toddler? You slow down to make it easier for them to keep up. Besides, if we're talking about movement rates measured in squares, we're talking about combat, not local movement within a town.

Design & Development: Warlord Article UP!

Basically, the point guard controls the offense by getting the ball to his teammates at the right times. Basketball has been growing in popularity world-wide for a while now, so much so that it's not enough for Team USA to just show up at the Olympics and get their gold medals -- they actually...

    Fomorians article on DDI

Spellfire caused hordes of angry fans, but that's because the game sucked, not because the art was recycled. ;) Personally, I'd love for the M:tG artwork to get 'recycled'. Hell, I'd love to see the M:tG settings get recycled. Ravnica and Lorwyn would make great campaign settings. But I'm...

OK, You Can Take Simulationism Too Far

Lore Sjoberg is awesomely hilarious. He used to write quite frequently for the Brunching Shuttlecocks (now defunct, but the archive's still there). There's also the Book of Ratings.

That was a TSR product, wasn't it? Or am I missing your point entirely?

    Worlds and Monsters & homebrewing

R&C got me excited about 4e from a player's perspective. W&M got me excited from a DM's perspective. There's a lot of good fluffy stuff in there that'll be useful to key off of for your homebrew. I've never been a fan of any official cosmology that TSR/WotC have produced, but I dig everything...

Please someone tell me I missed something

Monsters had a flat XP value before 3e, and it worked just fine then. I don't understand how the math "doesn't work".

    My take.

For me, the important parts of role-playing are the ability for the PCs to: interact with people and institutions in the game world; affect the story/plot; and make interesting/difficult decisions, as they pertain to either the plot or strictly to character development. Making combat more or...

What I like and don't like

This is not the case. There is no support for a Z axis in DDI, but that doesn't mean that flight has been excised from the game as a whole: (Emphasis mine.) "The system" being DDI, presumably. Flight as a power for PCs has been mentioned as a "paragon-level" thing. The classic magic carpet is...

    D&D 4E Ain't It Cool News reviews 4e

"Massawyrm" from Ain't It Cool News has been a 4e playtester for some time (apparently he is pals with a WotC freelancer) and posted part 1 of a 3 (?) part review: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/35776 In a nutshell, he gives it a giant thumbs-up.
