Nasty one: Darkness + Silence What to do??

off on a tangent... Many of my players have griped about the Metamagic Feats (as they pertain to Wizards) since 3E's inception. We have discussed the potential of spontaneous use of Metamagic Feats but have not yet attempted to incorporate it into the campaign(s). We have discussed either...

    Clerical spell Harm, too powerful?

    roundabout & roundabout.........

    Rope trick - detection of?

When using Rope Trick can it be detected by Detect Magic ? The spell description seems to indicate that since you are not on any plane it would be impossible to be detected (from the plane the spell was cast from or any other). If this is indeed the case, doesn't it seem fairly powerful for a...

    Enlarge/Reduce spell modifications

Why is this spell so complicated? And why o why does it not conform to the standard creature sizes? I am curious about people's house rules on these spells. I want to make it simple and clear and want to get some feedback as I consider how to house rule it IMC. Cheers, F4

Is there a book of NPCs available?

As my friend likes to say, "There's no such thing as a stupid question - there's just a lot of inquisitive idiots." Admittedly, I do not keep up with all the supplemental releases, but I was wondering if someone has published a book of just NPCs. As any DM out there knows, creating NPCs is time...

    Crawling PCs considered prone?

Regarding weapon use: Small piercing weapons only (this includes a light or hand crossbow). I was using the prone condition as an approximation of a situation and not to mean that a character is prone when crawling per se. And yes, drnuncheon, I did mean ranged weapons. Thanks for the feedback.

    Crawling PCs considered prone?

In our next session there is a good chance that some of the PCs will be crawling in some small passages. All the PCs are Medium sized and the passages are approximately 2.5' x 2.5'. For game mechanics should they be considered prone? (-4 to attack, +4 to be hit and no melee weapons (only...

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

I understand, Spatzimaus. Yes, you COULD do that. It's a vaild recommendation, but would really make evil Clerics badasses - they can cure themselves AND cast Harm while almost all PCs would be prohibited from casting Harm. That's the beauty of this game. These are all guidelines to approximate...

    Ranger & Barbarian improvement

Anyone expanded the Ranger's spellbook? Perhaps they could have access to a domain. ?

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

modifications Agreed. So we can: 1) cap it to save for 1/2 current HPs or 100 Hps, whichever is lesser (as Anubis has pointed out time & again) OR 2) we cap the spell by level -- 10hp dam/level to a max of 200. A failed save does the full 10 HP/lvl damage, successful half damage. In our...

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

If you're going to make this work then be consistent. If a Cleric can't cast Harm then he/she should not be able to cast even Inflict Minor Wounds.

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

Wow! Last night we were fighting numerous Steel Predators (from Lord of the Iron Fortress) and sure enough out came the Harm spell against the big boss. It failed its save (Dm rolled a 1 - ha!) and went from 346 HP to 4. Ouch! I almost felt bad for the DM..... :p At first glance it does look...

    Chronomancer/Lich's Time Tower - ideas?

Thanks for the replies. The party consists of 6, 10th-11th level PCs. There is a sorcerer, a cleric, a rogue/fighter, a rogue/wizard, a rogue, and a fighter. I don't want them to fight the Lich just yet, but I have another thought. Let's say the Lich (who, incidentally, doesn't need to be...

    Ranger & Barbarian improvement

Some members of our gaming group feel the Barbarian & Ranger are weaker classes than the others. Has anyone out there done any tweaking to one or both of these classes to make them on par with the other standard PC classes?

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

Ok, I'm sold. Will half it is. It's also a very easy mechanic during game play.

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

! And I thought perhaps I was onto something...... I must have looked at the cure spells and not the inflict spells. Oh well. "Uncle" :(

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

Ok, Anubis (and anyone else who is interested), let me ask you this: Are you viewing Harm as a Conjuring (Cure/Inflict) spell or as a Necromantic spell, i.e., Slay Living & Destruction? If the former, then a successful Will save would still subject the recipient of Harm to 1/2 damage (1/2...

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

I am both PC and DM. In both campaigns we have just reached levels that give access to Harm. The other DM and I are always concerned with game flow and especially streamlining the mechanics of play. With that in mind, I have been trying to see how others have handled this spell so that when it...

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

I misunderstood, HM. Yes, you're point is valid. I think that despite whatever fix is instituted, a saving throw MUST be allowed (Will or Fort, depending upon perception of the spell). If not, the spell is too low in level and should be 8th or 9th.

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

Sure it does: Spell Immunity Repulsion Anti-Magic Field Holy Aura Iron Body Anti-life shell and to a lesser extent: Spell Resistance Wall of Force and probably more.... I'm sure everyone is sick of this thread by now, BUT if a saving throw is instituted into Harm shouldn't it be a...
