    Firearms

Firearms -- different approaches I want to introduce firearms too. Count me in the group that want firearms to be mechanically distinct, and not just "crossbows" by another name. Let's look at the discussed bonuses to firearms in this thread: High Damage Higher Crit High Proficiency Bonus...

    Monster Template (Word)

Thank you By taking the time to create these templates and share them online you have saved a lot of other DM's a lot of hassle. Thank you.

    The Failure of Gleemax

In my past jobs I've provided strategic advice to groups interested in maximizing the use of social netowrk capital and I must say, this is one of the better summaries of social-network design I have ever read. Well done! (DarkKestral, not Wizards!)

    congratulations - you made it!

My goodness, you expect technology to jump forward a lot over the next five years! ;)

How will PC's make money in your world

I disagree. Not every character sheet is completely optimized for winning combats and earning experience. Some players like a character sheet to reflect a PC's non-combat aspects as well. What they shouldn't have to do is nerf their own character's combat effectiveness in order to pursue such...

How will PC's make money in your world

This I don't get. Profession-type skills have not been BANNED from the game. They simply don't count when it comes to allocating resources when building and advancing a PC. In 3.X a PC was forced to choose between flavorful skill options (like profession) versus skills that actually made a...

    No 4th ed D&D computer game...why? :(

Rights Who holds the rights to a D&D video game? It might not even be WOTC/Hasbro.

    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

I think what you are highlighting as a flaw is, in fact a feature. One of the key rule considerations in the development of 43 was to extend that mathematical "sweet spot" at all levels of play. Perpetually open-ended advancement will probably stretch, if not outright break, the mathematical...

    D&D 4E Piracy and 4e

Someone who works with psychographic profiles would probably take that above point and emphasize the following... "Members of the 'geek' subculture try to compensate for their own low-self esteem and efficacy in traditional social settings by openly demonstrating complete 'mastery' over...

    D&D Insider News

Insider Apps Delayed I hope there is a huge white board in the office of every single Wizards Exect where there is spelled out, in big bold letters... "Remember what happened to Master Tools"

    D&D 4E Ninjas and 4e

I like how six of the words on your list are examples of pseudo-intellectural verbosity...and the seventh word is "ninja". There is some sort of symbolism there, but it escapes me.

    D&D 4E Ninjas and 4e

Well, since we had a thread yesterday on "piracy" and 4e...it only makes sense to balance things out. I'm terrified of ninjas. I only hope my 4e books are thick enough to protect me from their gruesome 'throwing stars'...

    D&D 4E Piracy and 4e

Your first paragraph is not exactly true. A lot of sci-fi fans are resistent to mainstream advertising because they hold disparaging opinions of sports, hollywood movies or other mainstream pop-culture artifacts. This does not make them 'smarter' or more 'discriminating'. Sci-fans will buy...

    D&D 4E Piracy and 4e

A problem. But not an unexpected one. A bit of an over-generalization there, don't you think? Just because you engage in piracy but still spend money to purchase the products doesn't meant that "piracy doesn't hurt D&D". If everyone was like you then Wizards would be smart to ENCOURAGE...

[Ampersand] Bill Slavicsek on campaign settings

...and with a few key strokes, Michele twists the stomachs of the Spelljammer, Raveloft, Dargonlance and other unnamed settings into knots.

[Ampersand] Bill Slavicsek on campaign settings

Outside of the defined boundaries that are used for tournaments and whatnot, I doubt WOTC spends a whole lot of time in knots figuring out what is "core". From a business standpoint, my guess would be they tell you everything they produce is core. Attempty to apply standards of Canonical...

[Ampersand] Bill Slavicsek on campaign settings

I agree wholeheartedly. I was commenting on Yair's musings as opposed to the current WOTC strategy.

[Ampersand] Bill Slavicsek on campaign settings

Sadly, as pleasant as it is for individual gamers, this was the approach that killed TSR.

Why are they waiting til June?

I am not a WOTC cynic usually, though I would posit that the biggest reason they moved from a staggered to a joint release was to provide an extra month development time for the online applications -- which would otherwise have been expected to go 'live' next week.

Whoa...heavy stuff...I have a hankering to dust off some of my old Wittgenstein books ;) How did an off-hand comment about the Kensai come to this?!
