D&D 5E Rime of the Frostmaiden Post-Mortem (Spoilers)

I'm in the same boat. It's to the point where I'd just assume WOTC forget about a setting save for ensuring all the old material is made available in PDF and POD on DMS Guild rather than update it in their current style.

What are you reading in 2022?

They're so good. I'm fortunate to have three within close range.

What are you reading in 2022?

I just recently finished reading a couple of my recent Half Price Books finds. Silverglass by J. F. Rifkin was a fun little Sword & Sorcery romp that was basically a road trip story with an odd couple angle where a magic distrusting warrior and a sorcery practicing noble team up despite...

RPG Crowdfunding News – Lairs & Legends, TOKYO : OTHERSCAPE, Shield Maidens, and more

I feel that Kickstarter is a bit overpriced as well. I'm still going back and forth on whether or not I'll back it before it ends. The physical books not coming with a PDF copy unless you pay extra really rubs me the wrong way. I don't tend to like publishers who don't include a PDF with a...

Can you name a good fantasy TTRPG that's not D&D?

I still have my Rolemaster books, 2nd edition I believe... Sadly I lost my copy years ago of MERP, the Middle Earth version of the Rolemaster system.

Payn's Ponderings... Top 10 Essential Albums

Nice to see a mention of Visigoth. I really dig them as well. I'll have to check out those other groups.

Payn's Ponderings... Top 10 Essential Albums

I'm into a decent amount of recent metal (mostly doom, sludge/stoner, progressive, and new wave of traditional metal stuff) but it's hard for me to bump something like Master of Puppets from my list for any of that.

What are you reading in 2022?

Black Company, at least the first trilogy of books they kind of petered out for me after that, are some of my favorites. I think the viewpoint being that of a morally grey mercenary group makes it stand out. And it has some of my absolute favorite depictions of powerful magic users as well. The...

Payn's Ponderings... Top 10 Essential Albums

Oof these kind of lists are so difficult for me. Have to throw out so many essential albums and artists to carve it down. Usual caveats, this list is off the top of my head, it could change any time I was asked. 10 essential albums/desert island list (in no particular order) 1. Nine Inch...

D&D 5E Tasha or xanathar's, choose one and why do you like it?

In my opinion Xanathar's is better written and better balanced. I don't like the power creep in Tasha's and no longer allow it's use in my campaigns.

RPG Crowdfunding News – The Real Thing, CBR+PNK, and more

If asked to name the strangest RPG product I'd see on Kickstarter this week a Faith No More licensed RPG would be nowhere on my list. I'm slackjawed. Not a fan of Powered by the Apocalypse but for my inner 90s Alt kid I have to at least take a look at the project.

What are you reading in 2022?

I found a copy of Swords Against Darkness III while doing a used bookstore run today. Never seen that one before and judging by the fact that I can't seem to find a copy for sale on Google or eBay after some searching I'm guessing it's pretty rare. Looking forward to diving into it soon.

    D&D 5E 5e - Tales of the Old Margreve (Roll20) Campaign Recaps

I feel like there's two main areas I struggle with. First is kind of the blank canvas situation. Figuring out where to start, how large does it need to be. Do I want to map an entire dungeon or individual encounter areas. Stuff like that. Then there's the detailing portion. Trying to place...

    D&D 5E 5e - Tales of the Old Margreve (Roll20) Campaign Recaps

Thanks for the advice! I just recently started backing a couple of Patreons for map makers so I'm hoping that those resources will help speed up my processes. I have map making software including Dungeondraft but although I enjoy making my own custom maps I find I'm still pretty slow at it. I...

D&D 5E Less than 48 hours left! A huge sword & sorcery adventure for 5E is live on Kickstarter!

I've got this flagged to notify me on launch since I saw an ad pop up on Facebook. Will check it out day one.

D&D General How to Reduce Your Own Chatter

This is great advice. To build upon it I'd suggest starting with brief descriptions, for example items in a room, and then waiting to see what the players choose to interact with. You can then go into greater detail on those specific elements of the scene which then gives them more to react...

    D&D 5E 5e - Tales of the Old Margreve (Roll20) Campaign Recaps

I'm on the same page there. I've lost interest in anything WOTC is putting out lately but I'm all in every time Kobold Press puts out a new Kickstarter or product. How do you find is easy to build maps and props in Roll20? I've been using it since the pandemic started and even though I love...

D&D 5E What makes boss fights memorable?

Stakes/Objectives beyond just kill or be killed. Roleplaying in combat, the big bads words and actions and encouraging the players to do so as well. Having built up to this encounter during the campaign. Using minions, foreshadowing, and other techniques to build suspense for the showdown...

What are you reading in 2022?

I found a copy of Callahan's Crosstime Saloon on my recent used bookstore trip and am starting it now. I've been interested in it since I first became aware of it via seeing a copy of the GURPS sourcebook about it. A chapter in and I'm intrigued.
