D&D 5E My group is questioning everyone.

Someone under threat of torture/death will do or say whatever it takes to get it to stop it. Sometimes, if it's not a big deal to the individual to give them whatever info they want, they'll spill the beans. But often times, they don't want to help those that just beat the crap out of them, so...

    D&D 5E Monster Manual 2 or Player's Handbook 2?

None of the above. I'd like to see new monsters and player options come in setting and adventure books. That adds more options for those games without really creating bloat. If they want to collect the best of them in single tomes after a few years (when they've been thoroughly playtested, as...

    D&D 5E So, 5e OGL

(whoa, blast from the past) I didn't ascribe any goodness or badness in my post, just guessing as to why WotC is doing what they are doing from their prospective.

D&D 5E CR 13 dragon beaten by level 7 party observations

On top of that, I wouldn't run Legendary Resistance that way, myself. It isn't something a creature in game "uses" ("Behold, fools! Kneel before the might of my Legendary Resistance!"), it's a game mechanic that keeps legendary creatures from quickly losing to the unlucky saving throw, to...

    D&D 5E Gnome Tinker

I'd only tell you it was a problem if your post included something about someone at your table thinking it was a problem. Having fun? No problems! :)

    D&D 5E DMG page 274.

Cool story, bro. But, uh, some of us don't have the book yet...more info, please? :)

    D&D 5E Gnome Tinker

We have a gnome in our group. He wanted a pocketwatch sort of as his signature item, and I was cool with that. Also, he built a mechanical owl and brought it to life with the Find Familiar spell (he's a wizard). My advice is if the clockwork mechanism allows you to do something you wouldn't...

D&D 5E Why are vague rules praised?

Exactly. There will never be enough clarity for everyone, no matter how specific and detailed the rules are. That said, people run the game differently, thus the reason some people prefer plain-language to to text book language. Some would rather it to be like M:tG, where the rule is law and...

D&D 5E What to do when Pc's die? What then for that player?

It's not that the player gets xp, it's that the player is the one that cares about it. PCs don't think, "Time to start my adventuring career! Can't wait for those precious XPs!" It's an abstract in the game world. PCs aren't completely unskilled at level 1, it's really kind of an arbitrary...

    D&D 5E Dungeonscape Lives!

There are certainly other issues more worthy of outrage than the lack of a digital app for a brand new tabletop RPG, in my opinion.

D&D 5E What to do when Pc's die? What then for that player?

I was going to say, it's "intents and purposes," but if your purposes are intensive, then by all means... :D

D&D 5E What to do when Pc's die? What then for that player?

Unearned by whom? The player has played in the game for however many sessions it has been played. Being unfortunate enough to lose your PC due to the variance of die rolling doesn't change that. I don't think the PC cares one way or the other what it gets, seeing as it's an imaginary thing. :)

Rocks fall, the rest of you die. Hmmm, that has potential...

    D&D 5E DMG excerpt: Carousing!

It's not that it goes backwards, it just takes longer to complete.

D&D 5E What to do when Pc's die? What then for that player?

Isn't losing your PC a consequence? It's likely a disappointment, and possibly a setback. There are a lot of games that I've played where dying is unlikely, if not impossible unless you want to (Eclipse Phase, 7th Sea, Marvel Heroic, Edge of the Empire, off the top of my head) and threat and...

D&D 5E Drow "Sunlight Sensitivity" workarounds?

To pick a nit, Drizzt was on the surface for only a dozen years by the start of the Crystal Shard. But I agree with your assertion. The dark elf in our party isn't hindered on an overcast day or in complete shade (meaning his entire field of view is shaded from the sun). Direct sunlight is...

D&D 5E What to do when Pc's die? What then for that player?

I don't track XP, I just level the party when it feels right. So no one is of dissimilar level than anyone else. Less fiddly that way. So if a PC dies, he'll be coming back the same level as everyone else. But we've only had one PC die so far, and it was back at 1st level from an unlucky...

D&D 5E Drow "Sunlight Sensitivity" workarounds?

This has been a minimal problem in my group, thanks to smart playing. The party tends to travel at night. It's currently the beginning of spring in a northern climate, so they need to dress warmly, but even when it is day, it tends to be cloudy or snowing. Four levels in, they've only fought...

Canadians who haven't bought 5E yet: only Nov 17, five hardcovers for $150

Is this a good deal? I pre-ordered the MM and DMG for just under $28 each. I assume the price must have gone up on them?
