D&D 5E Dungeonscape Lives!

:D:D if that were true it would be great news...:o:o:o

just think 1996 Darksun, and SpellJammer, and Ravonloft... maybe even BIRTHRIGHT.... :heh::heh::heh:

I wish people with big decision making power at WotC thought like it was the 90's... that would rock B-)

The best (IMO) official e-tools suite for D&D, AD&D Core Rules, came out in 1996, too...

I just listened to the interview on The Tome Show The interview about Morningstar starts at about 38:00.
Seems the split was over creative differences. The iOS version was about ready for release. Still sounds like an interesting product for running your campaigns.

Too bad their little story about a stolen tools was not a story of two groups whose ideas for a product drifted apart. That is more understandable. If it was that simple why the stolen magic item storyline? Either way it is clear that they wanted something very different from what Wizards wanted. It does not seem like anything I would like but everyone is different, I'm sure more than a few people will like it.

corrected, the story mentioned stolen tools not product.

Here I reworked their story to better fit the description given in the interview. Don't take this too seriously - but my changes are in bold. ;)

The workers at the Trapdoor Forge and Magicworks are sitting around the table at the local pub.

For months, they had been working on a wonderful new artifact - a mithril and elf-glass tome of storytelling. It was to be a gift to the village for the holidays - a source of imagination for the dark, cold nights of winter! They had approached a group of wizards with the idea, and the wizards agreed to lend them magical resources as long as they agreed to build the gift as they dictated. The trapdoor heroes agreed and the tools and resources were granted.

As winter approached the wizards saw that the magical artifact being created as not as they had wished for. It is unknown whether the trapdoor heroes refused or simply could not address the concerns of the wizards in time for the holidays, but many have assumed that the final casting was about to take place, one that would deplete the limited resources of the wizards. It was then that the wizards took back their tools and resources, perhaps to spend them elsewhere, this too is hazy

Early this morning, when they went into their shop - they discovered that the magical tools they had been using to craft the storyteller's tome are missing. The only clue was a letter explaining the whole situation but reminding them they can tell no one else.

Over their beers, they commiserate. They were so close, and the holidays are coming. What happened? What can be done?

Surely, they can find magical tools beyond the walls of their village. An adventure!

A tale to tell, but all great adventures must have a name. Looking about for inspiration, all eyes fall to the party's lone magical item, a morningstar which glows in the darkness. Smiling, the lanky form of Newtonian the Rogue whispers, "Let's call this quest "Codename: Morningstar".

And the adventure begins...

If I hazard a wild guess... Pathfinder? Perhaps other systems. Maybe planning on making their software a platform for managing campaigns for various systems?

I was really looking forward to a digital 5e and keeping my fingers crossed for Trapdoor. However, now they've hinted at taking their development in a new direction following the demise of their relationship with WotC, I'm hoping you're right. A d20 SRD-based toolset with a user-friendly UI would make me absolutely delighted.

5e is exciting, sure but I'm still having lots of fun with 3e, too.

I just listened to the interview as well:

It's actually really open, honest, and candid.
I take back 75% of what I said regarding the split.

I don't feel entirely wrong though. It still sounds like Trapdoor came to WotC and said "we have an awesome campaign manager we would like you to support" and when WotC asked to fold it into digital tools, Trapdoor should have respectfully said "no". Instead of doing the program they wanted, Trapdoor ended up getting stuck with all the digital tools and ebooks.

While I still strongly support the people there at Trapdoor Tech, I'm a little tired of the play by play every Thursday. Feel free to call me an impatient dude, because that's what I am really after all the waiting. You need more time to develop the tool? Sure, just put that up as the front page post. You already know of the direction you wanted to go? Great, just tell me now instead of a little at a time for the next X weeks. Need money because you guys ran out of funds? Awesome! Just give me the Kickstarter URL and I'll send money your way NOW instead of X weeks from now when you finally reached that point in the story.

Keep up the great job guys. I heard great things regarding the iOS version and was itching to buy it when it sounded like it was about to hit the shelves. Can't wait til find out what's going to happen to it.
