They replied to a comment on Facebook and basically said that whatever this ends up being, it won't support WOTC products, at least at launch:"From what we know, we will be unable to provide support for WotC products in Codename: Morningstar as it stands now."

That's kind of all I wanted to know. I wish them the best, but I'm not playing anything else at the moment — so it really is goodbye for now.

Just clarified that post a bit more:

From what we know, we will be unable to provide support for wotc products in Codename: Morningstar as it stands now. We would be excited to work out a way to offer D&D stuff in the future but obviously, that depends on a lot of things outside of our control. We really want to offer as much as possible and there are no technical limitations for us to do so..I hope that helps answer your question? We *CAN* support content designed for 5th edition to an extent. More detail on that will come as we go.

For my two cents, the part about "bazaars of the great sea ports to the west" sounds like they're eyeing Pathfinder/Paizo. I'd be surprised if they have a character generator in mind, though -- the sheer volume of Pathfinder content would be very difficult for a startup that needs a quick roadmap to profitability. And they'd have to go head-to-head against an entrenched competitor.

A campaign management tool (which, as others have suggested, may have been their original vision) seems like a good guess. But Paizo's a creative enough company that there's an outside chance they may have seen potential in Morningstar's product that none of us have guessed at.

I would guess the part about finding friends along the way alludes to an upcoming Kickstarter.

Well I want tools for PC management. ....and tools tied to wotc or other company's adventures, if it can't do that, I am not interested. Too bad, was really hoping WotC would release a good tool at the launch of this edition.

Wow some people are really touchy on this subject. Personally I don't think 5e needs anything digital, but if someone was out that was helpful I'd look at it. And as other said I have no desire to play or run pathfinder or any OGL stuff based on 3e so all the best to them but I'm probably not going to be a customer.

I don't think it needs it either. 3.x and 4e and PF really benefited from a digital character builder because the math was more complex, and it pulled from countless resources. I don't think (anyway i hope not) that 5e will get bloated like that. But I know there's still a high demand for it, so i think they should come out with a product to satisfy the customers, and throw in some bells and whistles to entice someone like ME to buy it. I'd love to impressed.
