PVP/Penny Arcade 4E Podcast from WotC

I like these things and wish they would do more of them. For DMs, it gives an idea of how to set a scene, keep pacing and keep the players interested in the game. You'll notice that when the guys start to get too far off topic, Chris casually interrupts to get things back on track.

    Amazon.com is screwing me!

I got mine today. Looks like a lot of retailers aren't too keen on maintaining the release date.

Stealth - How does it work?

Just to understand your meaning: you're saying that a successful Bluff check allows you to remain concealed with a successful Stealth check without further Cover or Concealment? Furthermore, the 'stealthed' creature can perform any other (reasonable) actions other than attacking or shouting and...

Stealth - How does it work?

The PHB specifically states that "Unless a creature is distracted, you must have cover against concealment from a creature to make a Stealth check". This implies that it can be done from any cover or concealment on for a creature that is not distracted. The "Success" result states you avoid...

    KotS item question *SPOILER*

Are you talking about the Backstabber feat (Sneak Attack damage: d6 -> d8)? In this case, no. The extra damage is not Sneak Attack damage itself, but instead extra damage that is conditional on the attack itself being a Sneak Attack.

Stealth - How does it work?

I agree, as this is basically what I said in a previous post. My question though is why bother wasting a Bluff standard action in order to 'hide in plain sight' and then be forced to move to cover to remain hidden when you could just move to cover and make a Stealth check instead? I'm making...

Stealth - How does it work?

If this is the case, then you're saying that someone can Bluff to distract then make a Stealth check and hide from an opponent in the middle of a bare room? I'm not sure this makes too much sense.

Stealth - How does it work?

I'm not sure this is true. Once per encounter, Bluff allows you to use an opposed Bluff check to distract an enemy and make a Stealth check to hide. Under Stealth, you may attempt to hide from a "Distracted Creature" even when you don't have cover and concealment. Under the heading "Cover or...

Stealth - How does it work?

Actually, this isn't true in 4E. In combat, all participants are assumed to be looking in all directions (e.g., no facing). However, out of combat it is possible to 'sneak up behind someone'. You still have to make a roll (footsteps, etc) but you wouldn't need cover/concealment in this case...

    Some questions about Stealth

Thanks for your response. So, let's say a rogue is fighting an Ogre. The rogue throws a dagger (standard action), moves 5 squares (move action) around a corner where he has partial cover from the Ogre and uses a healing potion (minor action). Is he then able to use the Stealth without the...

    Some questions about Stealth

For those of you who have the rulebooks, I have some questions on how to handle the use of the Stealth skill: 1. In combat, is it possible to use the Stealth skill using cover/concealment (pillar, darkness) to become "hidden" from enemies? I'm assuming only normal types of cover/concealment...

    KotS Total-Party-Kill!!

Give them some hints as they approach the waterfall, like: "You see scores of small, reptilian footprints leading to and from the waterfall." If you really want to hammer it into their heads (assuming the runner made it): "Above the roaring din of the waterfall you can barely hear the cries...

Question: Rogues, Ally-cover, and Sneak-Attacking every round

Let's hear it. I'm curious about this as well, without having read the 4th edition rules on it.

Official word on Dragonshield tactics and movement interrupts in general

The confusion comes in the fact that, as D'karr has previously stated, an action is not an action when it comes to this description. "Actions", as we know them, are standard, move, minor and free actions. What this ruling from mearls says is that the "move" trigger in the Dragonshield power is...

Also, charging is one of the few ways to close and attack during the surprise round with a melee attack.

    Scaling down KotS

Very cool...your spreadsheet makes sense. However, by a lot of playtest accounts, A3 is a difficult encounter that can end in a TPK with even 5 characters. When plugging in 3 characters, it's marked as 'EVEN', which I think probably would be extremely hard. I think I read somewhere that at...

    KOTS Healing Potions

In KOTS, it says, "As a standard action, drink this potion...". I guess we'll all know more when the real books are released. *shakes fist at sky*

    Grognard's First Take On 4e

Actually, in 3E the 'light fighter' generally gets outclassed by all 'heavy fighters' pretty quickly, with only a few exceptions (Dervish, Chain Tripper).
