Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

A template probably makes the most sense because the adventure does mention that it is usually humans and githyanki that become servants. If you made it a template, can you make two example creatures? One as a human and another example creature as a githyanki appearing at the end of the template?

Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

I debated this in my own head when I read the description actually. I came to a conclusion that rather than it simply being a pair per appearance, the text in the adventure could be read as "a pair of Phlegamor's Servants appears whenever someone comes near the gem." Meaning, that it could be a...

Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

My player's kept avoiding many of the encounters in the library (turned out to be quite a boring chapter for me to run). So I didn't get to use any other creatures other than the Rust Monster. Which it completely destroyed a players 15k gold armor. Then he tried metagaming and said, "I'm pretty...

Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

Always :p These last Kamerel conversions were amusing in that I was running my game with them these past 2 months as you guys were creating them. We just finished the Mirrored Library chapter last week. I was able to use the Leader but I had to use my own selection of spells since you guys were...

Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

After playing our game tonight, I noticed a conflict related to how 3e works. In 3e, supernatural abilities are nullified when you hit the 5th ring of the Outlands according to the Manual of the Planes. Since the Mirrored Library is on the 1st ring of the Outlands, supernatural abilities are...

Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

I always read the description as if they cast the spell on the mirror (turning the mirror into a magic trap), and "if" a creature walked into the mirror, that is when the spell effect activates and transports them to the other mirror. It's a trap, so I never imagined a caster had to be there to...

Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

The text is definitely vague for a lot of this stuff. I've always been frustrated by that even when I ran this adventure back in the 90's with AD&D rules. I always assumed the mirror only allowed 1 person to enter it (one way) based on the trap scenario mentioned in the book. The Kamerel set up...

Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

I believe that the Kamerel were luring monsters into Transport Mirrors, not summoning any. I don't remember there being any text about them summoning things. They go out into the Outlands and bring along their Transport Mirror, find a creature, then cast their Transport Mirror spell to send...

Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

Since they make mirror traps, Craft (glassware) would probably make the most sense.

Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

My group deviated a lot from the original adventure, but it looks like they may be getting on track after our next session next week. So I think we will be playing this Mirrored Library scenario in a session or two. Thanks so much for the work on the Kamerel that you have done. I've noticed...

If you could make a documentary about D&D, what would you like it to focus on?

I may have the opportunity to make an 8 minute documentary student film about playing D&D. I'm sure there are several films like this in existence, so I would like to focus it on an aspect about playing the game that might be both unique and interesting. Who better to ask about this than the...

    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5e Monster NPC gear

NPC wealth is figured out by adding the Hit Die, Level Adjustment, and any class levels to determine the ECL. You use the NPC ECL to determine how much wealth he has. I do as others have said and just gear the NPC up however I want. What you really want to focus on if you are worried about game...

    Question about Freedom of Movement

As I originally pointed out, the spell doesn't do anything vs things like Force Cage, Wizard Lock, a pit, a locked door, a jail cell, or a vault. A thousand feet of granite in your way does not effect your movement. These obstacles are blocking your path and are not keeping you from moving...

    Question about Freedom of Movement

I used to have a hard time grasping the whole concept of this spell too. In situations like this, I'll usually try to convince myself with some plausible explanation (as much as you can do in terms of magic). In this case, I think of it along the lines of the spell causing the binds to no longer...

    Question about Freedom of Movement

Freedom of Movement works against all effects that keep you from moving. The first line of the spell description mentions magical effects, "even under the influence of magic that usually impedes movement." The rest of the examples are all nonmagical effects. You are basically immune to...

    Module with a good map

I kind of liked the map to Forge of Fury and I recreated high res versions in Photoshop/Maptool. It may not be complex enough for a player to need to map out. I just liked the layout of each level and how there were various water routes and waterfalls running through it.

    D&D 3E/3.5 D&D 3.5 rules question - Climb Speed

Yeah, that sounds right. Other than any bonus to climb checks, the climb speed gives the extra advantage of actually moving at full speed (climb speed) rather than half of your normal speed.

Planescape fans, help me explain how to use a Mimir!

So I just gave the group a Mimir in our last game. I've used them a couple of times in past groups, and I think players seem to have a hard time understanding what you can do with it. I'm not sure if they really don't understand, or if they are just trying to exploit the intent of the item...

I need lots of statue-like creatures, what are they?

I only mentioned them so people knew that I was already aware of them and would reply with some fresh ideas. I'm not actually using all of those. I'm looking for mostly stone-like creatures that could appear to be statues at anywhere from CR1 to maybe CR6.

    Sigil in Pathfinder

I'm not really sure I understand what you would need to convert? Sigil is just a city. If you want to use Sigil, why can't you just use it as it is in your Pathfinder game? Is the issue that you need it placed somewhere in the Pathfinder multiverse similar to how Sigil floats above the Spire in...
