Wow, my Wimpzard can finally use a Sword !!!

Perhaps this thread has outlived its usefulness. This was not a complaint, just a comment. Bad choice for my character. I prefer my Wand, it has Power+3. I prefer the extra encounter spell to a weapon. My character was purposely designed with a low strength. I role play that into my...

Wow, my Wimpzard can finally use a Sword !!!

To answer this first... I was not building for optimization, I was building to create an interesting character that I liked. One thing that has been a big turn-off for me in 4.0 is the emphasis on optimization... and the drive for balance that it forced by the game designers. These are the...

Tiefling, Dragonborn : have they gained traction ?

Fourth edition was set up so all classes had a combat aspect to them. Moreso than in the previous three editions. With the PHB1, Dragonborn were the only race with a Strength bonus. There was a built-in popularity for combat maximization. Now with Half Orcs and Goliaths, they no longer have the...

Tiefling, Dragonborn : have they gained traction ?

Tieflings at least have some tie-in to a previous edition, and some before that if you include fiendish heritage creatures like Cambions and Alu-Demons. If I were designing the Dragonborne and Dragonspawn races, I would have tied them in as sub-races of Lizardfolk.

Wow, my Wimpzard can finally use a Sword !!!

Yes, that is the point. Now two issues come to mind: Using a sword as a martial weapon as a feat means I use my Strength for attack bonus and damage. Most Wizards will lose at least +5 or more. Gold is scarce. My best item is a Wand of Power +3, not a Sword +2.

[Forked Thread: How Important is Magic..?] 5 things you need to know

Same here... I'm Ofer Five on that list. 1) Some experience with a previous D&D type RPG. 2) An imagination that can work with fantasy RPG concepts. 3) Success in dealing with other human beings on a social level. 4) Willingness to work with others to achieve a common goal. 5) Intelligence...

Wow, my Wimpzard can finally use a Sword !!!

What takes precedence... the core Players handbook, or a supplemental book? Or is the Character Builder considered a core book? If it is a supplemental book, I would take any rules in it as optional. Core Book = I must buy to be able to play. House-rule and be labeled as a heretic...

Wow, my Wimpzard can finally use a Sword !!!

"The One Sword" is the power in question. Yes, whether it is weapon damage or the daze effect.

Wow, my Wimpzard can finally use a Sword !!!

Heh... yes. That was one of the few things I understood. And it just so happens that I did use it during two consecutive encounters.

Wow, my Wimpzard can finally use a Sword !!!

Ah... So it lasts as long as I keep hitting... up to the duration of the encounter.

Wow, my Wimpzard can finally use a Sword !!!

Hmmm..... You have not addressed the principal question of how long The One Sword effect lasts. Assuming I hit with my secondary attack, how much longer does the power last? Just one more turn, or for the duration of the encounter?

Wow, my Wimpzard can finally use a Sword !!!

I haven't read the Feat yet, this question should be posed to the Rules Lawyers at WotC. But as far as I can interpret from what was written here, what ever gave a Wizard (with the feat) the ability to use its Intelligence for a martial attack in the first place?

    Initiative Tracker?

To track initiative and all other relevant scores, I recommend a pen and a note pad. It is infinitely flexible and quick and easy to use, and has worked well for me for over 20 years. Best yet, it can be found in many local stores and the price is reasonable. Some of us even find this...

Wow, my Wimpzard can finally use a Sword !!!

If I were designing the game, I would not have done that. The Spiral Tower Paragon Path was designed specifically for Eladrin Wizards. What I see as the major difference between the Paragon Path and the Feat is that the former allows me to attack with my Intelligence, which is far superior to...

Wow, my Wimpzard can finally use a Sword !!!

Yes, it is quite confusing. The way we ruled it during the game is that I only got the secondary attack on my first turn, and the hit lasted until the end of my next round. What was "sustained" was that I could continue using the primary attack of the sword for the entire encounter (because I...

Can charisma be something more than just dump stat?

There are two kinds of "dump stats". The first is the kind that individual players do not care about. Some players keep one stat deliberately low, to add character to the character. The second is the kind that DMs ignore, and that IMVHO is a loss to the game when it happens.

Can charisma be something more than just dump stat?

Bluff Diplomacy Intimidation Streetwise Four very good reasons to respect your Charisma. As my Wizard hit 6th level, I chose the Disguise spell. At 8th level I chose the skill training in Bluff feat. The more a game values intrigue and planning over pure hack and slash, the more valuable...

    Professional GM: Possible Return

By the way Captain, have you considered what would happen to your game if you killed a paying player's character? . I'd rather pay for the corned beef sandwich, and then play a free game of D&D.
