Third Edition Culture- Is is sustainable?

Any game system, no matter what the mechanics, no matter what the "fluff vs. crunch", no matter what settings are available, no matter the simplicity, no matter the complexity, needs 2 things to be successful: 1. A good GM who is willing to put the necessary work into making the game fun and...

[Troubleshooting] Shadows of the Last War

Except when the hole is at the top. And if you were standing at the bottom of a sphere, and the hallway was on the side, it would still be above you...

[Troubleshooting] Shadows of the Last War

Shadows of the Last War - description question I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the "rotator rooms". The descriptions aren't clear to me, and there is not really an illustration as to how they work. Where is the control panel? If it is a 20' diameter sphere, how do you get to the...

    The mechanical problems with Multiclassing

So... let me get this straight: You are complaining that in order to create a *magic* item, you have to know *magic*. Am I missing something here? I can drive a car, but I can't hope to build one from scratch by myself. Not a great analogy, but it's close. Your fighter can learn weaponsmithing...

    Let's talk about the AD&D 1e Dungeon Master's Guide

3rd edition has been a godsend, and 3.5 only made it better. (A "mere" 3 years? Is there some set product cycle I didn't get the memo on?) I am able to run combat a lot quicker, and with much more tatical options available to the players, they enjoy it a lot more. I'm not standing there...

    Are the Warforged underpowered?

Maybe make darkvision a warforged accessory, or a warforged 1st level feat, or part of the warforged juggernaught prestige class...

    Are the Warforged underpowered?

The warforged in my group is the powerhouse, especially since one of the other players is and artificer.

    Kobolds in D&D Novels

It's not a novel, but definitely check out the Slayer's Guide to Kobolds. Great stuff.

    Let's talk about the AD&D 1e Dungeon Master's Guide

Much of what I liked about the 1st ed. DMG was that it opened up the game from simple dungeon crawls to the idea that worlds could be designed and real stories could be told. However, information was all over the place, poorly organized, and practically useless as a reference. As I said...

Single Classed, Multiclassed, or Just a Mess?

I don't play as much as I DM, but I normally stick to one class; the lure of the higher skills for a Rogue, higher BAB and feats for a fighter, etc., is just too strong. I find my players mostly play single class as well. They depend on each other as a team, each bringing their unique character...

    Let's talk about the AD&D 1e Dungeon Master's Guide

Being called a Fool usually does it for me :D Besides, while I was laughing the whole time, I could easily see these people getting all red faced about an "attack" on their precious 1st Editon DMG (even though it was just an opinion, which I presented with civility). This is my 25th year of...

    Let's talk about the AD&D 1e Dungeon Master's Guide

I bought the DMG when it came out (I don't remember if it was 1978, 1979, or 1980...). It fired my imagination! But I'm afraid we've moved on. It's kind of funny, but a while back I realized I had not read the 3.5 (or 3.0 for that matter) DMG. It is a great book! If you're like me and don't...

    3rd D&D Movie is planned - Is D&D that valuable a brand?

The question we should be asking ourselves is, "Could anything actually be *worse* than the first film?" Or, "Is D&D going to be drug through the mud *again*?"

    Eberron: Favorite Regions for Campaigns

One selection that's not on the poll would be my vote: The whole world. Really, when I read the Eberron CS, every nation, every continent suggests a myriad of adventures. I want my characters to see it all!

Ransacking and rummaging rogue - is he evil?

What the thief did is the personification of Chaotic Neutral. What I find amusing is some of the interpretations here are of the "What is not Good is Evil" variety. No shades of gray in their universes. Also, in Eberron, alignment is not only fluid, but mostly unimportant. :]
