    Cover and Spellcasting

As the initiator of this thread, I feel obligated to post a remark. I feel that between Caliban and kreynolds, I received the most helpful response from Caliban. Usually when someone posts a question in the messageboards, they would like the response to provide a rules reference or at least a...

    Cover and Spellcasting

Crothian, I agree with you that this gives spellcasters a little too much power in this case, which is why I'm asking. NPCs can ready an attack on the spellcaster for when he peeks around the corner, though, so I cannot come to the conclusion that it is all-powerful. I'd like to tell my...

Thanks kreynolds. Can you please provide a reference, or is that just your opinion?

    Cover and Spellcasting

I understand that the spellcaster cannot MOVE both before and after casting. That's not my question, though. There was never any actual movement. The player sorcerer simply peeked around the corner to cast the spell. My question is this: Does the spellcaster actually have to MOVE??

    Actions upon waking

I meant the very next time the awakened creature gets to act after it is awakened. Not all creatures need to draw a weapon to attack. Some creatures have spells or special abilities, some have natural weapons, and it's possible to have a weapon locked in a gauntlet. In these cases (under...

    Actions upon waking

I can't locate an official rule regarding the subject, so what do you other DMs allow players/NPCs/creatures to do after awakening from sleep (magical or otherwise)??? In my campaign, we've agreed to treat awakening creatures as 'staggered' (i.e. partial action only in their first turn after...

    Casting Spells from Spellbooks

I'm not sure if it's possible to cast spells directly from spellbooks in 3rd Ed. If so, I can't find any rules governing it. I haven't checked 'Tome & Blood' yet, but does anybody know explicitly whether or not it is possible? One of the PCs in my campaign (a Bard) recently found an NPC's...
