Richard Baker on Orcus and Deity Slaying

I have no problem with PCs killing gods. Of course, in the games I run there are no real gods, only "gods"; you know, those powerful pushy beings who think they are all that, but really they are just puffed-up demons/devils/angels/whatevers. They don't really grant spells, they just know some...

Richard Baker on Orcus and Deity Slaying

There are lots of super glory goddess/figures types in D&D and fantasy literature. The Forgotten Realms are full of them. How many other deities who kill you for daring to worship them? All of them...eventually. ;) How many other figures who directly exploit D&D's gate and demiplane...

Richard Baker on Orcus and Deity Slaying

Meh. She always struck me as rather hackneyed, like a clumsily implemented personification of DM-fiat plus deus-ex-machina. Edit: I don't know much about her from the source materials, rather mostly from people's comments on the boards, which is probably tainting my impression, a la "she's so...

    WotC_Dave: Druid!

I like the move away from the classical elements (air, earth, water, fire) towards more strictly "nature" phenomena (plants, animals, weather). I question the removal of summoning abilities; druids traditionally (in D&D, at least) call upon animals to act as their allies. Without an animal...

    WotC_Dave: Color Power!

Could be worse: Teal are the at-will, cyan are the per-encounter, and cerulean are the daily... Darn you to heck, I was just about to make a scratch-n-sniff joke!

Raise Dead: A nice big bone to the simulationists

I've never seen what the big deal about raise dead, et. al., was. Maybe it's because I see D&D as a game and not a novel. I just want to play the game and keep playing the game. If a beloved PC dies, I want to get that PC back in a reasonably timely manner so we can keep on playing. I don't...

    Thievery Skill

I could see finding traps as using thievery or perception, whatever is higher. After all, they have said that they have been aiming for challenges that can be countered by multiple skills. RP wise, finding a trap by perception would be "ah hah, I see that pressure plate!" while finding it with...

    Multiclassing Moritorium

I don't understand the "moratorium" part of the thread title. There is no temporary ban on multiclassing, is there?

    Kobold Skirmisher

Yeah, kobolds are sneaky and all, but when did they become friggin' ninja combat beasts? 27 hit points? There better be some sword fodder kobolds along with this one!

    D&D 4E Copyrights, NDAs and 4e "demos"

I just hope nobody posts any spoilers about the adventure, such as what kind of pie the orc is guarding.

Breaking News: Kuo-Toa Not Froggy Anymore

I see sahuagin as more sharky and surface-going; they are the ones in the shallow waters near the surface. Kuo-toa are deeeeeep sea fishy things. And why not froggy? There are many fish that look froggy. I once commented to my brother that I thought it very odd that the Kuo-toa goddess had a...

Breaking News: Kuo-Toa Not Froggy Anymore

I like my kuo-toa beeing partly froggy with a chance of eel. But not fully froggy. They should be some sort of "is it a fish person? amphibian person? what the heck!" creature. We already have fishy people, sahuagin. Oh, and locathahs.

Confirmed: Magic items and summoned monster stats in PHB

Not to mention that magic items have to come from somewhere. If people can make 'em, then people can sell 'em. I don't think D&D should be restricted to the conventions of fantasy literature or myths. That being said, they've mentioned several times that magic items in 4e will play a different...

D&D 4E Should terrain be move vulnerable to damage in 4E?

That's a good idea, it makes it a lot simpler.

D&D 4E Should terrain be move vulnerable to damage in 4E?

I've never liked the concept of power attacking inanimate objects. Isn't it assumed that when you are chopping down a door, you are hitting it as hard as you can? I'd personally houserule against power attacking things.

So, what Class are you dying to play?

Warlock. It sounds like the best option for converting my current character.
