    Demons/daemons/devils, New/Converted

On the Wastrilith: A very nice conversion. I've always liked really disgusting, slimy monsters, and that one is a paragon of slimy badness... As I recall, this one is from Paladin in Hell?

    Euro 2004 Football discussion

Onopko is out of the squad due to an injury :(((((((. The defence is really crippled without him. True. But I'm an optimist, so a 3:0 win over Greece and draws with Spain and Portugal will satisfy me ;). Advancing past the quarterfinals would be a real marvel. France has a fantastic squad and...

    Euro 2004 Football discussion

Gygax is a widespread last name in Switzerland (do a search for 'Gygax' & see for yourself ;) ), and Gary Gygax must have some Swiss ancestors.

Gaming the game, or telling a story?

Of two options, I choose the third: gaming the story.

    Anti-climactic BBEG battles

During the playtest of The Divine Alligator, the Bad Guy (CR 9, 105 hp) was wiped out by a party of three 7th-level characters enraged by their companion's untimely death in a trap. The fight involved water walking, a 50+ damage critical hit, and a lot of alchemist's fire. It was gross.

Ashy's Homebrew PbEM - new stuff posted...

First DM's rule in this case: If the PCs travel by ship, the ship will sink. To be serious, there are many possibilities to challenge seafaring adventurers. They could find themselves in the centre of a large battle between merfolk and sahuagin - and take collateral damage from both sites. They...

Does any one have a problem with the HD size of a ranger?

I think d8 suits the 3.5 ranger quite well. A skirmisher relying on stealth and hit-and-run tactics shouldn't be able to take the same amount of punishment as front-line "shock troops".

What are some of your favorite plot hooks?

The Pandora's Box. Due to a violation of some ages-old prohibition or moral principle, hell is set loose. Fiends walk the land, crops wither, all the elves fall victim to a strange malady, and the king is nowhere to be found. This plot hook is extremely versatile, especially if the trouble is...

    Malfera (X5--Temple of Death)

2 johnsemlak OT: Small indeed. I could have seen you in the Labyrinth last winter... 2 IanB That's right. The old D&D game had really strange rules for speed, and 60 feet is too high in 3.5 rules. This creature would be faster than a horse!

    Malfera (X5--Temple of Death)

A very nice conversion. However, although it is not written in the original description, I would replace the knock spell-like ability with dream haunting a la the night hag. As I recall, the malfera was supposed to torment sleepers with nightmarish sights, so this ability would be reasonable...

    [June] What are you reading?

The Devils, Idiot, Crime and Punishment by Fedor Dostoyevsky. Anna Karenina , The Resurrection by Lev Tolstoy. The Seagull , Uncle Vanya by Anton Chekhov. The Adventures of Joseph Andrews by Henry Fielding. Moll Flanders by Daniel Defoe. Tristram Shandy by Laurence Sterne. I'm not...

    Favorite non-human PHB race.

The Speaking People, also known as "elves" in certain backward human communities ;). Nothing to do with mechanics - elves have dominated my imagination since I read The Lord of the Rings.

Necromancer or Evil Cleric for undead master ?

Negative energy (not necessarily evil) cleric all the way. Although Necromancy has been largely improved in 3.5, a cleric is still much more effective as an undead master, which is not necessarily a bad thing. I don't like undead anyway ;p

    How do you pronounce "Drow"?

Drow rhymes with 'cow'. Period. And it doesn't matter if 99% Russian roleplayers disagree with me ;).

    D&D vs. Real Life

In D&D, I voluntarily spend hours and hours reading dust-covered spellbooks and ancient manuscripts. In real life, I can't make myself read a learner's manual even to save my life...
