What benefit is there for a smart/careful 3pp to use the GSL?

Make a new ruleset for your IP? Release it without a liscence, or under Creative Commons?

    Great City Campaign Setting...not 4e...sucks

Ummmm, market refers to the willingness to buy product, not the amount of product available. More 4E PHBs were sold than expected, so the market (or rather, possible market, as we won't know the real market for at least a few months now) is larger then expected. Having fewer providers doesn't...

4th Edition and the Immortals Handbook

True. The question is, is that problem enough to outweigh the flipsides you mentioned? I don't personally think so, and am OK with size having a limited effect on a creature. It might be prudent to ask around, though.

2008 Best Publisher Nomination Thread (and more!)

I'd like to nominate Steve Jackson games, please, on account of their fantastic work with GURPS support.

4th Edition and the Immortals Handbook

Works for me. Same with the reach thing. Yes, if he's an equivalent challenge to them. If he's not, then they shouldn't be fighting him anyway, and should be treated more like a natural disaster than a creature in terms of statblocks and such.

4th Edition and the Immortals Handbook

Hmmm, I think Ltheb's 'status chain' works better than your idea. Less math to do, less onerous requirements to have the PCs actually do something, plus I think you can play around with it a bit more. Something like automatically downgrading the level of the effect each round. Needs a bit more...

What 2008 4E products will you buy?

The adventures and books, for the most part, though not the deluxe printings. Probably the character sheets and the DMs Screen, at least if it's as good as the Dark Heresy screen.

Final Fantasy XII sucks. Period. Fact.

Eh, 6 didn't have that much level grinding, until the very end. I can cheat with the one 'no-encounters' item, but I just couldn't grind a second party to proficiency to finish the game. Shame, it was good otherwise. As for XII, yeah, none of the characters gripped me in any way, and I just...

One Nice Surprise To Gaming Online

Ph, yeah, online gaming certainly has its perks. The biggest one I've found is it's infinitely easier to roleplay when you don't know what the face of the person you're roleplaying with. It's alot easier to hit on the princess then on your fat friend Bob (to use one juvenile example). The...

Most well known D&D setting among non-D&D RPG players

When did FR overtake Dragonlance? I'd say no later than the release of Baldur's Gate 2. I get the feeling that some people here are underestimating how massively popular that game was. It hasn't lasted as long as Blizzard's popularity, but at the time it was Diablo II's #1 rival. By now, the...

What Campaign Settings will you purchase?

Pretty much all of them. They come out far enough apart that I can afford it. As far as my preferences, I'd place Eberron in front (I just don't think they'll screw with this one), with Dark Sun (so long as they don't reboot it, and build off of the world shown in Dragon a few years back) and...

No, you got it right. Crits on dailys are nasty.

cheers for the dragon and dungeon

While I'll certianly cheer for Dragon, Dungeon hasn't put out anything since Heathen, so I'll wait for at least one more adventure before singing its praises.

4th Edition and the Immortals Handbook

Actually, the point is having a class that covers the witch archetype, which the warlock and (what we know of) the sorcerer don't cover. Witch, as the most well known name that this archetype falls under (in addition to fitting the given matrix), is the most logical name for the class. Yes, I...

The more I play it the more it shines.

No, the book is correct, it's only until your next turn, not for the duration of the encounter.

    Amethyst - New campaign setting

Mr. Dias, how mechanically compatible do you forsee a GSL Amethyst being with regards to the 'core' 4E rules? Obviously you can't redefine anything, but would the power level and format of your new races and classes be similar enough to the core game to be able to pick the pieces of the one you...

4th Edition and the Immortals Handbook

Hiya Krusty! Warlock is gender-specific too. So is sorcerer. I really don't see them concerning themselves with that. Shaman would be my best guess, too, but it's far from clear I think. Yes, I know you can't have everything. It's just that the confluence of Eberron being the released setting...

    What is GURPS?

I never thought I'd say this, but pawsplay is right. Completely, utterly, and unabashedly right.

4th Edition and the Immortals Handbook

Ehhh, Wyrd seems too obscure to me. The warlock as written doesn't do anything similar to the witch archetype, and I can't see WotC not using that name simply due to a little-known (and tenuous) connection between the words. If they would, then sorcerer would be likewise conflated, and we know...
