Need help with buffs for teleport blitz

Thank you all for the replies. This will help a lot for my prep. I didn't mean to be intentionally dodgy on the classes for the NPCs; I just hadn't decided for myself who they are going to be yet. As to level they are all going to be level 14-18. The gate is a modified gate spell - it gates...

Has complexity every worked for you as a DM?

Some rambly thoughts, as I was thinking about this while trying to fall asleep last night: I think that complexity is sometimes a perception. Things can appear simple when looked at in one direction, yet very complex when looked at in another direction. I've found that simple things can give...

Need help from Planescape Fans Re: The Setting

If you are concerned about low levels and want your party to be fairly standardish, you can start them off in a random prime where perhaps the society has just advanced enough to know about planar travel and Sigil, or perhaps an advanced society who has been unable to find the portal between...

Need help with buffs for teleport blitz

It's going to be 5 NPC's teleporting into a courtyard. One NPC is planning on casting a modified gate spell (which still only takes one round) to summon something nasty and then teleporting back out. If they think they have time they will possibly toss out a couple other destructive spells --...

Need help with buffs for teleport blitz

I'm introducing the players, in a way, to the high-level tactic of buffing and then teleporting in. One problem I have, however, is that I don't know it that well myself. So I'm asking for help here from those that have played in a lot of high level campaigns. What buffs do you put on your...

    What's with high-powered campaigns?

I chose a poor example when I used an int 8 and just mentioned a trap. I should have called it a "MacGyver" trap. I don't remember the specifics, but it definately something where the average person would have had quite a problem solving, let alone a person with below average intelligence...

    What's with high-powered campaigns?

You can make it a wash by just making encounters harder if you buff characters. The reason why I think my players would like to have enchanced stats is to have more tactical versitility. Players generally show some characteristics of roleplaying and some of tactical planning. While it's...

Whatever happened to all the adventurous heroes?

Yes, I realize there were limits to what he could do. But if this were a "typically expected" D&D campaign it would run something like: Player: Hmm. That's interesting. How does the political system work? I should work on making some contacts so I'll have an easier time when I ascend. or...

Whatever happened to all the adventurous heroes?

Yes, but did he actively go out seeking a way to gain/display his powers, or did he forsake his name and go off into the woods? In D&D terms it would sound like: DM: You discover there is an ancient prophecy which states that you will gain some powers in the future and become a king. Player...

Whatever happened to all the adventurous heroes?

I don't know about all the Tolkien characters jumping at the chance to adventure. Aragon was shirking his duty to become king for a long time. Granted, what he ended up doing wasn't worthless, but the most heroic thing for him to do would be attain his rightful place at the throne. Yes, it's...

Plese help rank these item abilities

Hi, I'm creating a weapon which my players may or may not find. So if you are playing in my campaign (that's the Nyternia/Belar campaign for those who don't remember my account name), please stop reading. Not all (or any) of these things are going to make it in anyways... In any event...

How many PC deaths do you see per session?

28 sessions, 2 player deaths, both in the same encounter. Perhaps not coincidentally, that session was messed up because two people were calling in remote since they were in NY for a convention (we live in CA) on a speakerphone. We set up the battlemat in a grid fashion and stated moves in a...

    PrC Assassin and silent spells

Ah thanks... I apologize for not searching through to see if there hadn't been a recent post about this.... I thought it was fairly esoteric and didn't think to look like I usually do. Thanks for the answers! Edit: boy do I feel stupid. It turns out I had posted the same question a week or...

    PrC Assassin and silent spells

The PrC Assassin says that they cast spells as a bard. A bard cannot cast silent spells. Does this mean that the assassin cannot cast a silenced spell? Any other thoughts on that?

    Games for the non-gamer

Maybe ask what attributes she likes in games, and which she doesn't? That would help narrow down the list. Some examples are: exploration, building (ie improving something), bidding, competition, luck. etc etc.

Concisely describe the 9 alignments in your campaign

No, I agree it doesn't. However, it is also a societal construct, IMO, and unless you only have a single society in your campaign or they all share the same values (which is fine if you want to run your campaign that way), alignment is still what the society makes of it. In the United States...

Concisely describe the 9 alignments in your campaign

I don't really play with alignment. IMC, alignment is what you make of it. One person may consider themselves evil while others consider them good. One can have an internally consistent set of values which others don't understand and view as chaotic.

    Can assassins cast spells silently?

In the PrC assassins cast spells as if they are bards. In the PH, bards cannot cast silent spells. Therefore, one could say that assassins can't cast spells silently. Is that correct?

What Alignment do you prefer to play?

I chose CN. And I love playing CN (though not stupidly) because it gives me the greatest flexibility to solve a solution. I am fairly sure I am very far away from CN in real life though. Just because I know of a solution doesn't mean I feel it is within my right to enact it when it steps upon...
