WGR1 Greyhawk Ruins -- Your Experiences?

I've posted part one of a comphrensive review of the 2e module WGR1 Greyhawk Ruins over at d20 Dark Ages. Before I finish the 2nd (or even third part), I was wondering what people's experiences were with this module. It's neither the "joke" module, WG7 Castle Greyhawk, nor the Expedition to...

    Pie Wedge Initiative?

Chivalry & Sorcery did a similar initiative system, but with counting cart. It was too much of hassle. But maybe with only 8 counts/wedges it might work better---at least for small combat.

Can a good creature be fiendish and can an evil creature be celestial?

It all depends on how the DM wants to run his game, and if the players except his decision.

D&D 5E Non choices: must have and wants why someone that hates something must take it

I guess it all depends on if humans have free will or not. If they don't, then they truly have no choice but to except the rules as written, without alterations. If they do, then only by coercion or force can they be "made" to except things they don't like. But, according to philosophes like...

D&D 5E Now that "damage on a miss" is most likely out of the picture, are you happy?

At first I was like  And then I was like :-S At somepoint I became  And then I got :hmm: But finally i'm just: :p

The Quest for the "One True System" Is It a Myth or Something More?

This is my final say on the issue at hand. Before looking at EN World for resources, ask yourself these important questions: 1. Why do I want to write this system? What are my objectives? 2. Are there any other systems out there that accomplish these objectives and goals? (i.e. is my system...

The Quest for the "One True System" Is It a Myth or Something More?

Therefore, the "One True System" is a myth. Somebody will eventually find something "wrong" with the current system they're using and move on.

The Great D&D Schism: The End of an age and the scattering of gamers

Once Mike Mearls or somebody else high up in WotC starts excommunicating gamers, then we'll have a true schism. Until then, its just a bunch of people either bickering over how to play the game, or just sitting down and playing it. We really don't have to be one big happy family. In fact, I...

The Quest for the "One True System" Is It a Myth or Something More?

It's a myth. Just find a game system/edition that works well for your gaming group and stick with it.

OD&D Advice wanted going back to a OD&D game for nostalgia

I hope you had a fun game. Here's my suggestion. In the back of In Search of the Unknown, there are lists of potential NPCs to be used as hirelings. Use them. Or allow the PCs to hire a 0-level man-at-arms or two from the keep at a reasonable rate.

D&D 2E Are there any websites or blogs that review AD&D 2e adventures and books?

Given that WotC is release TSR backlist of 2e books and modules, I've been searching of for websites or blog dedicated to AD&D 2e that might have reviews for these products. AD&D 2e certainly isn't a popular edition--its campaign settings are--but I've yet to find many websites beyond...

The Great D&D Schism: The End of an age and the scattering of gamers

I call it the d20 Dark Ages. Except that I argue it began back in 1989. Just as I started getting into D&D, people seemed to be leaving it. There really isn't anything you can do--except play the edition you like to play and try to get like-minded gamer-friends to do the same.

Are we, as a wider community, nasty?

The "nasty" aspect of the gaming community once led me to believe that we're living in a "Dark Age," where gamers are fragmented by Edition Wars and petty disputes. But now I've leaned more toward relativism and say that D&D is Like Pizza. Everybody has an idea of what pizza should be, but...

OSR What Has Caused the OSR Revival?

I think we have the winner, folks! ^ I'd say the OSR was getting primed with the disenchantment people starting feeling toward 3.5e. But when 4e slaughtered a lot of "sacred cows" was when the OSR really took off, with blogs like Grognardia leading the pack and a number of OSR publishers coming...

AD&D gave us adventures, 2E gave us settings... Retrospectives.

Here's my retrospective of the all criticisms against each edition--its supposed to humorous, but make of it what you will: 0e: I furrow my brow in a vain effort to understand it. 1e: It was fine until Unearthed Arcana and Dragonlance ruined everything. 2e: Thac0? But I don't wanna deal with...
