    [Epic 20] Diablos Ex Machina

House and Variant Rules Skills as Saves Racial Abilities It won't be 100% like that, but you'll get the general idea of it.<otherwise same as core> • 4th level ability: Improved Damage Reduction, an experience warforged has learned to use it's metal plating to absorb blows, and instinctively...

    [Epic 20] Diablos Ex Machina

NOTE: We've now got more than 8 applicants (which is the limit of how many I'll start the game with), so please be advised that if I have to pick, I'll be doing so based on Concept 1st, Execution 2nd and Order of Application 3rd. - There is both good and evil in the vastness of the plans, two...

Do you like the name "Golden Wyvern Adept"?

    Heward's Handy Haversack.

    How often do you practice?

I can do that with flipping coins; takes me a few tries to get a feel for the coin, but after that, I can reset it and always pick the side that it lands on. Never bothered to try it with dice. I could, I suppose, but what's the fun in a game like D&D if you could control the dice?

Thrane strike force. RAIDERS OF AUNDAIR STAY OUT

Probably a silly question: Are we running on 'encounter time' now? I ask since I'd be gaining maneuvers each round if so. I'd presume I don't start accruing them till we start combat, but it never hurts to ask.

Thrane strike force. RAIDERS OF AUNDAIR STAY OUT

Bonal was somber as they drew near to the tower. Clearly they had been spotted, which meant there was no chance of completing the mission without an open battle. It was true they were heretics, and transporting undead of all things, but the old veteran was tired of the needless bloodshed of...

Thrane strike force. RAIDERS OF AUNDAIR STAY OUT

IIRC, Invisibility Sphere lets us see each other, so visual signals are possible. Still, nothing so far compromises the plan, spotted or not.

    sense motive (1d20-1=1) Meh.

Will there ever be another Marvel or DC superhero RPG?

Marvel has "The Marvel Universe Roleplaying Game." Or did, at least, I don't recall how long ago I picked this thing up. d20 it ain't, however.

    Hogwarts Wizard

NNNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!! It burns us! It burnses usssss! *ahem* Sorry, not a big fan of the books. ;) My own issues aside, sounds like a good fit, in terms of base mechanics.

Thrane strike force. RAIDERS OF AUNDAIR STAY OUT

I agree that if we have been spotted to rush the ship and try to at least get the ramp up (we may even consider splitting forces to get the ramp up while dealing with the spotted sentry, or just going for the ramp first, to prevent any backup from arriving while we deal with the guard). In any...

Thrane strike force. RAIDERS OF AUNDAIR STAY OUT

It'd be 4 rounds - 3 of us have heavy armor, and, IIRC, the warforged moves as if he does with the Adamantine Body feat. initiative (1d20+1=7) So, 7 or 10 if the Motivate Aura is up.

Will you buy the preview books?

Meh. I'm pretty disinterested in 4e in general, but I just could never see myself paying that kind of cash for a design guide. I'm sure it's good and interesting stuff, to a degree, but with only that type of content, it's not worth that price. Flavor and crunch are two things that work best...

    Encounter Level and Challenge Rating

Roughly, EL 15-16. 4 13th level PCs are good for a CR 13. Double to 8 PCs adds +2 to CR for 15. Double to 16 PCs is CR 17. So your group is between 15 and 17 Beyond that... well, there is no easy way to build/run a combat with that many PCs.

Why isn't every 9th level wizard rich?

Something else about iron - iron, in most D&D settings, isn't all that useful by itself, you have to make steel out of it to create the products people want to buy. So, no matter how much iron you have, it's only as useful as your capacity to smelt it into steel. Also, you may just want to say...

Why don't giants rule the world?

"Whenever you see something like that, a Wizard did it." But, in general, I'd say that the dominance issue is like to come from 2 factors (in most settings, at least): 1. Racial limitations. Some races, like Dragons and Giants, have too many hard-wired divisions and/or resource limitations...

Why aren't all 9th level wizards rich?

I had a setting once in which most magic was outlawed. As far as the public was concerned, this was due to the near destruction of the world in a past age due to the abuse of magic. While that was partly true, the real reason was to prevent magic users from upsetting the economy and general...

    Adventuring and Collateral Damage

Once, I had a group of PCs who wound up fighting a villain inside a large city. Naturally, the city guards, especially since these were Epic level PCs and this was a setting in which magic (of all kinds) is banned as a general threat to life not exploding. So, just after the PCs finish off the...

    Super Mario - Brainstorming

Gah. Now I'm having flashbacks to the whole '200 jumps in a row' thing... I don't' remember what you got for that, but I remember the pain of the attempts. I'm going to curl up in the corner and rock slowly for a while now.

Way for armor to eat damage, w/o armor = DR.

If you are wanting to reduce damage, just use DR. Figuring %'s would be a pain to do on every single hit. While the proposed armor systems do have a degree of complexity, the bulk of it only takes place when donning/removing armor, not on every combat blow. I much prefer Nifft's ideas, mostly...
