Dark Sun Giant PC Race (Built as a Medium Creature)... thoughts?

Thanks, Caliban. For those that think 5e is unbalanced or that it is acceptable to intentionally make an imbalanced race, this thread is not for you.

Dark Sun Giant PC Race (Built as a Medium Creature)... thoughts?

For all intents and purposes, we will have to agree to disagree. The balance of 5e is too important to me to allow that at a table I DM.

Dark Sun Giant PC Race (Built as a Medium Creature)... thoughts?

The old Dark Sun races were not nearly as imbalanced as you claim. The additional power of the setting comes not from imbalanced races but higher starting stats. I still want my half giant balanced within the constraints of this edition and the setting’s tropes.

Dark Sun Giant PC Race (Built as a Medium Creature)... thoughts?

My final product will have to be a bust, then. I might not have succeeded yet, but my efforts are fundamentally constrained by balance. A +4Str/22 max cannot be balanced. I won’t include it. I want my final product to be as balanced as an official product would be. I’ve tried to play to the half...

Huh? Mind explaining what is messy? It’s a fairly simple mechanic...

Dark Sun Giant PC Race (Built as a Medium Creature)... thoughts?

Cool. Would you mind going into a little more detail about what feels too strong? Also, how does its hunger and disadvantage on Charm based effects factor into your estimation?

Dark Sun Giant PC Race (Built as a Medium Creature)... thoughts?

I'm not really interested in discussing the issue, Jester. I tried it. It creates a variety of problems (from balance issues to illogical oddities). I'm only interested in finding out if the stat block in my OP is both a) balanced and b) suggestive of a large creature.

Dark Sun Giant PC Race (Built as a Medium Creature)... thoughts?

Still creates balance issues. I tried something like that.

Dark Sun Giant PC Race (Built as a Medium Creature)... thoughts?

This is my attempt to create a balanced Dark Sun half-giant that FEELS large, but mechanically speaking, is medium in size (to keep with 5e design parameters). Thoughts? Medium Half-Giant Ability Score Increase: Your Strength score increases by 2. Your Constitution score increases by 1. Size...

For those who know, are Ravnica vampires like Zendikar vampires or Innistrad vampires?

I'm certainly trying. I prefer to approach life with a positive rather than a negative attitude.

D&D 5E So Now We Are Paying for Early Access?

Personally, I think the Wayfinder's guide is both dripping with business savvy and is good for the game's intellectual property. I have no issues. I already voted with my wallet.

For those who know, are Ravnica vampires like Zendikar vampires or Innistrad vampires?

@robus Outside of D&D, vampires do not come with a "very specific set of aspects." They are, in fact, a relatively recent mythological development. Right now, the term "vampire" coheres with exactly two core qualities that are common to every instance of the creature in fiction: it thirsts for...

Question about mounted combat and the "Find Steed" spells...

In both "find steed" and "find greater steed," the text says that the creature has the statistics of the creature you choose. It also says, "you control the mount in combat." I originally took that to mean that the player could choose what actions it takes during combat. However, on page 198 of...

What is your reaction to the Ravnica news?

It is interesting to me how small our community actually is. I posted this in one of the larger 5e Facebook groups I am a part of to gauge their response as well...

What is your reaction to the Ravnica news?

Ravnica actually seems pretty distinct, which is the one reason I’m getting over my initial disappointment.

I’m disappointed, but not enough to not buy the product.

Why I feel so abysmally let down by the "Ravnica" news...

I haven’t read Jeter. My interest in steampunk is tangential. Most of my scholarship is about cyberpunk. It is entirely possible that Jeter, like Bethke, used the name for a genre before it became a genre/generated the name that would later title the genre. Bethke’s “Cyberpunk” predates...

Why I feel so abysmally let down by the "Ravnica" news...

Sophism. Someone will always be disappointed. The degree to which people have voiced their discontent, though, is not an inevitability. In fact, in 5th edition’s life span, it is an anomaly.

Why I feel so abysmally let down by the "Ravnica" news...

@Tony Vargas Cyberpunk is, in many ways, cynical or dystopian. It is also, in many ways, utopian. Arguments about whether it is utopian or dystopian are standard critical fair. Quite frankly, in my opinion, cyberpunk is innately ambiguous more than anything else, at least when you examine any...
