    Themes: What's the Catch?

I agree it's power creep. But I think the real reason is that they're needed to make core characters on par with Essentials characters. If you look at the Essentials Wizard vs. the Core Wizard for example, it seems the Essentials wizard is slightly stronger, with an extra ability at 1st level...

What do you want to see in a campaign setting book?

I think the best campaign setting that I can think of is actually one of the old basic D&D Gazetteer books. Specifically, the principality of Glantri. It had maps. City/regional statistics with population numbers and typical exports. Various power groups. Lots of adventure leads. Details...

Players running the asylum (at least a little bit anyway)

Sounds sorta like that Birthright campaign setting that TSR came out with a while back, except for the bloodline powers. Birthright (campaign setting) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[real life] Cash versus convenience... help!

A four hour commute per day is crazy. Go find a minimum wage job at university, work 10 hours a week and you'll have your food money.

Fortune Cards: and randomized collectible cards come to D&D

I don't get the big deal. It seems that these event cards can be replicated by just rolling on a random event table.

Does 4e have a sweet spot?

I've found level 13 to be the same as level 18 in terms of combat. Level 1-2 flew by so fast that I didn't really feel like I was being held back by fewer choices. The places where I felt a change in gameplay were the tier breaks (11, 21). At 11 you get your paragon path stuff and the wider...

    Regeneration Question

Frankly, I'd categorize alcohol along with knock-out poisons and similar items. However, in 4e, that would mean a save every round to throw off the effects so it doesn't model alcohol well. In that case, perhaps a variant of the disease track would work (make saving throws every hour to move...

    D&D 4E 4e The Village of Hommlet...giving it away

For some reason, I thought there would be more D&D related jokes and one-liners. It seems most people though like to tell stories about their gaming experiences. :) Not that I'm complaining. I'm being entertained reading through all of them.

The most character-less character you've ever played?

I once made a character based on myself so that I didn't have to roleplay. It was created at around 2am at a very late convention game and everyone needed brand new characters for the intro mod (this was living greyhawk). I didn't feel like coming up with a brand new character concept so I...

    D&D 4E 4e The Village of Hommlet...giving it away

Hey all. Not really sure where to post this, but I'm giving away my copy of The Village of Hommlet 4e adventure that WotC gave out to RPGA DMs a while back. I wasn't using it, so I figure it was either this or put it up on ebay. Details at Familiar Ground - D&D Free Village of Hommlet 4e...

You All Meet In A Bar

A guy I know used to organize regular D&D game nights at the local pizza place. Large trestle tables and beer on tap pretty much lent a tavern atmosphere. It wasn't designed for gaming, but it still worked, so I don't see why a gamer tavern couldn't either.

    Gnome Names

I think it would depend on if the gnomes in your campaign are silly mech gnomes or fey trickster gnomes. If the former, then compound names might work like sparkgears, wrenchtorque, or flashbottle. if the latter, then something that sounds elvish might be better.

LF: Drop in Game session or meeting some players on the road

I highly suggest you check out the various game stores in the areas that you travel through. Most will probably have a website where you can find out if they have a weekly game night.

D&D 4E No more reprints of the 4E core books?

Thank goodness for Black Diamond Games (an excellent store btw, highly recommended). Everyone else that heard this rumor seemed to have just run around screaming the sky is falling. BDG is the only one I saw to actually bother to call someone at WotC to verify this rumor. Still, this speaks...

    Reducing Options to Increase Fun

Wait, are you guys trying to define fun? :) For me though, simplicity or complexity in available character options isn't really as big a factor as how the group itself plays. Can you have more fun playing Checkers or Carcassonne?

D&D 4E Returning to 4e some restarting help

I usually use index cards (one for each player and monster) to keep track of both initiative and hit points. I usually mark conditions on them as well. But for the most part, for conditions that only last until end of player's turn, I usually encourage the players to keep track of them and...

Daily powers replaced with class features for Fighter & Ranger

What exactly do Daily powers give you? An extra [W] or 2[W] and a special effect over an at-will or encounter power? Seems like it would be easy to get rid of them by just making the special effect a class feature gained at specific levels and increasing the damage of attacks by +1 or +2...

Using each stat for a melee basic attack

Actually, I thought the thread title meant he wanted to give each ability score a different basic melee attack mode. Dex = trip an opponent instead of doing weapon damage, as you use your agility against your foe Cha = daze an opponent instead of doing weapon damage, as you deliver an...

Print On Demand solving the issue of errata

You know what would be useful though is for someone to provide a printout of the specific pages where text has changed, so it can just be pasted on to the existing book. I recall there was someone around this forum that used to do that for all the errata. Would be neat if WotC could do this.
