In that case i was mistaken. Theres nothing unreasonable in what you ask of your players my group developes its own systems and settings too. and for the recored i agree whole heartly about not letting post medieval technology into the game.

I'm not a power gamer I mostly play rangers and paladins and value a good story first. But over controlling bullying dms like you are just as bad as powergamers. 've never struggled to find a table but i bet your players could find a much better table to play at. I'm not sure who you're talking...

I'm not saying dms should let players run riot. If you've made a particular setting then that's cool to say what does and doesn't exist. But why is it wrong for players to power game if that's what entertains them. like min-maxing or not its their game as much as yours so get off your high horse.

well the check is 10 + spell level + somthing for being in the enemies raduis + damage dealt theres plenty their to spoil the casting. granted wizards are tough but a well played dragon has little to fear from anyone.

but the dragon is also very well defended from the wizard with good saves and SR 28 and don't forget insect plague which is a nasty caster killer.

I think your selling the black dragon short, it would only take one round in melee or one dispel followed by a breath weapon to kill the wizard. And if the fighter is playing proper attention to his armour class and has close quarters fighting and shield ward he can duke it out with a hydra. See...

Fighters can have flying mounts and if they use boots of teleportation or they ride up to you on thier turn. Fighters to act as well you know they don't stand around waiting for you to throw a spell at them and have access to magic items too.

A lot of that seems to count on the wizard getting the higher initiative abd being able to get the spells off. Also can bindings be effected by dispel magic.

yes I know many rays don't allow saves but wizards and sorcerers can miss as the attack bonuses are generally low. I know this can be countered by a quickened true strike but re died actions and total cover play a part too. Also the surprise round if their is one is often crucial in are games.
