D&D 5E Pet Peeve: Weapon Weights

One pet peeve I have about Next is that some of the weapon weights are much too high. Seven pounds for a throwing axe? Fifteen for a greataxe? I'm not usually a whiner, but this gets my goat. The weapon weights in 4e are closer to life, so why not use them instead of making up new stuff...

D&D 5E Cleric and Rogue Fixes

Agree with you on the cleric. I liked deities at first, but after thinking about it, realized it did not mesh well with all settings. A domain could represent a deity, but could also represent an aspect of a deity, a group of deities, or the goals of a holy order. An idea for sneak attack...

    D&D 5E Maneuvers discussion

Push and knockdown are now actions anyone can take. Perhaps jab was removed because of abuse potential with Total Defense. An idea I thought of is: Overpower When you succeed at an opposed Strength check, roll as many expertise dice as you want. Take the highest result and do that much...

D&D 5E The Return of the HealBot

Definitely give bringing back Channel Divinity a plus. Though I don't think the iconic use necessarily has to involve healing. Would also like to see it recharge like Signature spell.

    D&D 5E Maneuvers discussion

Actually, this is one of my favorites. It gives the fighter something to do outside of combat. Think of the great stuff Steve Reeves did in all those Italian sword and sandals movies.

This One Goes to . . . Ten [Merged four Oct 29 Playtest Package announcement threads]

Some thoughts: Like the division of perception into search, spot, and listen. Like the new backgrounds. Unsure about specializations; seem a little wimpified to me. Like the new Veteran fighter style. Noticed tridents on the weapon list. I'd rather they do 1d8 and be military. Some...

Why are the biggest games Fantasy games?

One thing about fantasy is it has a kitchen sink appeal. You can throw all sorts of elements from different subgenres and make it work. You can throw in a S&S barbarian alongside a Wuxia monk and a high fantasy elf and they can go off killing dragons together. On the other hand try throwing a...

    D&D 5E Divine Archetypes

Reading about Divine archetypes like the deceiver in the latest L&L made me do a little brainstorming. What archetypes would I like to see? Here are a few suggestions: The Healer: Associated with life and possibly the sun. Think Aesclepius, Pelor, the Franciscans. Wears light or medium...

D&D 5E Annoying warlock invocation names

I like the flavorful names from 4e. Not to mention the ones from the Conan RPG, my favorite "Awful Rite of the Werebeast". The make the warlock feel more S&S and less high fantasy.

    Whither the gnome?

I think subraces would be the way to do this. Rock gnomes, forest gnomes, tinker gnomes, and because nobody has said it yet, underpants gnomes. Not to mention garden gnomes and long-haired leaping gnomes.

    D&D 5E 5e Monsters....What should they look like?

I think they should look like Erol Otus drew them :D

    Charisma for Clerics

Charisma as the prime stat for clerics gets a definite "no" from me. I see charisma fitting some archetypes, but for others, like cloistered clerics, wisdom fits much better.

    Active and Passive Perception

One suggestion I heard was Mike Mearl's idea about rogues being able to use Int to find traps. Another possibilty would be to use Int when a character is actively searching for something and to use Wis when the character has a chance to passively notice something. 3.x used this system and FC...

    Semi-Vancian Divine Magic

Definite dig on the cleric. Also like how turn undead does not seem to be affected by charisma. Anything that makes a class less MAD is a plus in my book.

I would add to your list: Knowledge- for cloistered cleric types. Shadow/Thievery Love

    D&D 4E The Dispensible 4E

My big beefs with 4e? -Pairing of stats for defenses. This was frustrating for me as I like to play smart characters, but Int was clearly inferior to Dex as a paired stat from a game perspective. - AEDU. Worked fine for some classes, but made other characters feel rather cartoony. Fixed to...

Pathfinder 1E Newsletter Devoid of Pathfinder

Honestly, I'd be careful about using a phrase like "5e crap". Believe it or not, there are some people who like Pathfinder who are also looking forward to 5e. Be nice, be civil, and have fun on the EN boards!

    Fantasycraft, Legend, others?

I am not familiar with Legend, but I can tell you about Fantasycraft. It is based off the Spycraft 2.0 rules, so if you are familiar with SC, then you have a good grasp of what FC is about. If you're not I'll enlighten you. Character generation is point buy. There are no dump stats. A...

    D&D 1E The indispensible 1e

Rangers with high intelligence and druids with high charisma. Illusionists. Fat clerics and skinny thieves. Fat halflings and skinny elves. No assumed pantheon of gods. The very word Dweomer. Voulges, partizans, ranseurs, spetums, and glaive-guisarmes.

The Ranger: What is his shtick?

I like my rangers high INT, low DEX, tough as nails guardians of the wild. But if some folks like the nimble skirmisher, why not offer a way to do both? Perhaps the original ranger could be THE ranger, and the skirmisher type be called the scout. Or the skirmisher type could be the ranger and...
