Why I'm not boycotting the movie, video games, comic books or novels over the OGL scandal, just D&DB & hardcovers.

There are a lot more reasons for it to tank, and it probably will for those reasons more than this reason. I didn't say that at all. Look at the second part of my post. I said do something that matters instead of hoping some data analyst has the stones to present that in some board meeting...

Why I'm not boycotting the movie, video games, comic books or novels over the OGL scandal, just D&DB & hardcovers.

Hasbro won't correlate this with that, as nobody is polling the audience to see if they are a TTRPG'er or not. We can all safely say most are not. If this is important enough, protest in front of the theater. Some folks in line might listen or even not go. A mainstream reporter might even ask...

D&D (2024) New leak looks real bad

A subscription service was inevitable and $30 a month isn't bad if the service isn't tiered poorly. Need to wait and see what is offered to judge fairly. How the OGL lands is a separate thing but will factor in as well. Mike

D&D (2024) RPG Evolution: The Art of the Apology

Nobody did a thing to force their hand other than grow their market. No bad actor ever stopped doing something harmful because they were appeased. Mike

D&D (2024) RPG Evolution: The Art of the Apology

Haha. Great idea for an article. Really enjoyed it. Honestly, I expected C work from the corporation. Not sure they got that for tons of reasons. If D&D is important to them in the long term, they need to hire or listen to folks who understand the TTRPG culture and its mores. This letter...

Critical Role Could Critical Role launch their own RPG?

Yeah does look like I wasn't all that clear. Just saying that I expected this response and rationalizing why. Mike

Critical Role Could Critical Role launch their own RPG?

Yeah and end-of-day they have to provide for their families and all the people they've hired. It sucks for all. M

Penny Arcade has harsh words for WotC

Those two are national treasures. If anything, we've got to see everybody's true mettle. Pretty much landed as expected. Mike

Critical Role Could Critical Role launch their own RPG?

I'm hoping they'll start by leveraging their audience to get Hasbro to back off. I think they were clearly one of the top targets of all this ($$), but not sure if they've already signed off on it or waiting to see what it actually is. End-of-day you can wish they'll take one for the team, but...

MCDM starts work on its RPG Monday!

Great news. Strongholds and Followers and Warfare were great products I got some use out of. MCDM's bullpen is pretty much an all-star team at this point.

OGL: Kobold Press 'Raising Our Flag' For New Open RPG

Really brave of them. They could have bent the knee and let smaller companies eat it. Let's see who follows suit (or doesn't). Buying some Kobold stuff today!

WotC Anybody a little worried about how useful their paid VTT library will be in a year+?

It is always about saving time for me rather than any specific brand loyalty. Buying integrated assets (character builder, monster manuals) lets me focus on playing than typing/coding/drawing etc.

    So how do we respond?

The best response for the near term is to buy stuff 3rd party stuff from the likely targets prior to the release date. They'll need the revenue to survive and then fight if necessary. It is the very least, tangible thing I can do knowing so little. I'm a little relieved that most of my holiday...

WotC Anybody a little worried about how useful their paid VTT library will be in a year+?

Thank you. That definitely does clear things up a bit. Obviously, this is an inconvenience for some of us, but definitely more for those whose livelihood depends on it. Man, what a mess:oops:

WotC Anybody a little worried about how useful their paid VTT library will be in a year+?

Hi All Is anybody else looking at their existing WOTC materials in R20 and wondering-maybe dreading- its usefulness in the next year or two? Guild linkage is encouraging but I haven't seen much from either company on this. It is a little alarming and definitely makes me think twice about buying...
