D&D 5E I'm just not that "Psyched" about Next.

I have to agree when i step back and look at my overall enjoyment of D&D from the early 80s to today it has been a slight but steady angle of decline from AD&D to 4E. I still hold out hope that 5E can reverse that trend. The good news is by the time the two remaining years of playtesting are...

D&D 5E I'm just not that "Psyched" about Next.

At this point i'm probably more excited about 13th Age than 5E but a lot can change in 2 years...

    Custom-made Paragon Paths

Oh no it's Him!: Level 12 utility (Daily) Trigger: Your drop an enemy in combat Effect: as a minor action make an intimidate check vs Will on any remaining enemy combatants. On a hit the target is dazed save ends on a miss the target is dazed until the end of your next turn.

your experiences with collaborative world building

I love the world building aspects of being a DM and making homebrewed sandbox style campaign settings is one of my favorite things. One of the most disappointing things about world building is that as a DM you often end up with reams of paper filled with notes about your setting and it various...

    D&D 4E More reflections on 4e and 5e.

I get this very same feeling as a player and have often thought that if I ever end up running a 4E game introducing a house rule allowing players to use the level 21 power expressions on at wills once all their encounters and dailes are spent. Who knows it might be all kinds of broken in play...

    D&D 5E Human Subraces

Setting specific human subraces can be really cool (suel etc.) but human subraces in the PHB just sounds like a terrible idea imho.

D&D 5E What should be the 5E default setting?

I suspect it will be the Realms which is a little disappointing because I think its been a long long time since FR was a good setting in my mind (like org grey box long time). I'd love to make an passionate case for Greyhawk to be rebooted to its org box set which is my all time favorite...

    D&D 4E What 5E needs to learn from 4E

I'm not all that familiar with 4E hybrids so i can't really say much about it, but I don't see much value in 4E's feat based multiclassing to be more specific. Again i'm not saying I like the 3E version any better. I just feel like the 4E version didn't go far enough. Mechanically its a better...

D&D 5E If an option is presented, it needs to be good enough to take.

The big problem is its a very subjective topic. What metric for measuring "worth" can be agreed upon by a majority of players in order to seperate the wheat from the chaff? I don't think there is an easy or obvious answer beyond eliminating the handful of options that are glaring bad or head and...

    D&D 5E You can't necessarily go back

Again I didn't start it I just replied to it. I was only refuting the notion that another poster put out there that there has a been a little HP inflation with each edition. All I did was say that it was more than a little. Once the various crus4ders decided the honor of thier favorite edition...

    D&D 5E You can't necessarily go back

I believe 4E characters can go down to their negative bloodied value which might be more than 10 and still get to make death saves or get bandaged or otherwise healed.

    D&D 5E You can't necessarily go back

This is laughable 1st level 1E was an absolute meatgrinder which is what spawned the careful cautious exploration style. 3E at 1st level not even close.

    D&D 5E You can't necessarily go back

Sigh, no where have I said anything about lethality the conversation started in response to the statement that there has always been a little inflation of 1st level hit point in each edition. You can keep trying with the strawman but it hasn't changed.

    D&D 5E You can't necessarily go back

Let me make it reeaal simple for you. 4E 1st level fighter 31 starting HP + 84 HP in surges = 115 HP daily value 1E 1st level fighter 9 starting HP + 1 CLW spell from his cleric buddy = 13 HP daily HP value 115-13=102 significant inflation of hit points for a 1st level fighter. The cure...

You are of course entitled to your opinion which by the way was not the topic of discussion. ;)

    D&D 5E You can't necessarily go back

I was not discussing the lethality of 1st level combat in 4E I was discussing 1st level hit point inflation. Thanks for trying though :)

    D&D 5E You can't necessarily go back

Yep I believe thats what we were talking about 1st level in case you missed it: The inflation was very significant not little.

    D&D 5E You can't necessarily go back

You mean beyond the fact that a "healstick" is a (magic) device and a healing surge is your hitpoints (internal, not external intervention required) and while its been a few years since i've played 3.x i'm pretty confident that freshly rolled 1st level character just starting out doesn't have a...

    D&D 5E You can't necessarily go back

Just because you can't soak all 115 HP at once doesn't change the fact that they represent your ability to take hit point damage. No wand no potion no magic no spell just you all by yourself. How exactly am I not telling the truth in this statement?

    D&D 5E You can't necessarily go back

Healing surges unlike healing require no external mechanism they are your hit points no magic required just 5 minutes.
