"It's not a question of where it grips it..."

Had any number of arguments back in 1E days about ILLUSIONS that defied physical logic by having no actual damaging effect. Most of them started when a player decided he was going to eoll up the first Illusionist PC we'd ever had. It came down to my strenuously suggesting he cease attempting to...

What monster killed your first PC?

My first ever character death... Traveler, last roll before starting the game. Result: Your character dies. The first day of RPing. Almost never played again.

How do *you* do wilderness travel?

First I look at the map. How long will the journey take and are there any obvious obstructions (river, mountains, etc.)? Then I decide on any encounters along the way, usually depending on how civilized (or not) the country is. And hand-wave everything else so we can get on with the game.

Would you give your 2nd level party 30 thousand gold?

I voted no, but in the right circumstances I probably would. The game is supposed to be fun, after all.

    AC or DR

I voted for DR, type of damage matters. However, what I had in mind, which no one else has mentioned, is gas attacks and the like. Although I like the idea of different weapons doing different damage against different types of armor, it gets real complicated real fast. So usually not worth the...

    Hexes or Squares?

I voted for squares. But really, the answer is: "It depends". My main concern is mapping. For caverns hexes are best, for just about anything else - squares! Although figuring the area of effect for a spell is way easier with hexes. It just depends.

Classes and Levels or Point buy

I prefer a system to have levels and point buy, but no classes. However, I don't know of any. ;)

Stopping A Game Session During Combat

Used to. Now we end (pretty much) on time. If the battle has to be continued next session, so be it.

The World is coming to an end - help me make it happen.

I like this! As to the first part, I left a campaign because of just that. We were sent out by the local military commander to find out "what's going on out there". What we found out, in dribs and drabs, was that an invading army was getting set to... Invade! We kept reporting to the commander...

Found the fun in gaming again

LOL, you should see our group in action. About 7 times out of 10 we spend at least half an hour planning what to do (and often much longer), then the plan falls apart the moment we come into contact with the Bad Guys and it turns into a general melee. And we make such good plans, too! ;)

Found the fun in gaming again

Lots of good advice from others. Something else you might consider is for you and your roomie to decide together that you aren't going to listen to Mr. Not-Me and do your own thing. Right out in front of the rest of the party, as with the bar fight. Either the rest of the group will back you up...

Kingdom devastated by war - how long to rebuild army?

Hey, I said 3-6 six months. And even spear and shield fighting is more complicated than using a bayonetted rifle as a spear. (Contrary to popular belief, using a shield properly does not just consist of holding it in front of yourself!) There is also formation work to consider. And hand-to-hand...

Types of Armor in the Campaign World

You could make it known to the players that most enchanted armors, and weapons, are of the varity that you want. (Like the old 1e high percentage chance that a magic sword would be a longsword.) Add in the style suggestion made above and you're getting there.

Kingdom devastated by war - how long to rebuild army?

Um, learning how to shoot a rifle is a whole lot easier than leaning sword & shield or spear & shield work! 3-6 months for regular grunts, a lot more for non-coms and officers. Still, you pull out all the military retirees and in a year or so you should have a reasonably decent core of fighting...

Which class would YOU step into?

None of the above. No practical experiance as a fighter. Lousy memory makes for a lousy wizard. I have nothing but contempt for an organized religion, so no cleric. Way too clumsy to be a rogue. That's why I play RPGs in the first place! :]
