    am i doing this right?

i would tend to agree with this thought. they seem to have a love for 'final fantasy' level-ups - randomly wandering the local areas known to be dangerous in hopes of good loot and xps (a habit i'm trying to break them of), so understandably, random animals and prowling predators don't really...

    am i doing this right?

let's say the PCs topple a CR 2 encounter. they loot a masterwork greatsword, a potion of sheild of faith +2 and 200 gp; all of this equals the CR2 encounter reward of 600gp, if i'm correct (350 + 50 + 200 = 600). now, the PCs take said items into to town to divvy them up, and sell what is not...

    concerned about crafting.

in one of the campaigns i play in, a character wants to take 'time out' to try his luck with some alchemy. while i'm not against this, he's suggesting something in the realm of 2 or 3 months in-game time, so he can stockpile some items that he thinks are worth it - healing salve. i've tried to...

    Feat for Familiar (rat) Question

not to be dull, but as far as my understanding went, familiars don't actually improve their feats and skills as they level. however, i recall that a familiar is treated as having the same ranks in skills that its master does, so as to give basically infinite 'aid another' to attempts...

    Dragon Shamans and Energy Shield

i would imagine that should a wild creature bite something that turned out to be more flammable than tasty (energy shield), it would abort its attack routine or something of a similar nature. however, in the example you just gave, the dragon shaman caused 10 points of fire damage, but could've...

    my group needs suggestions.

thanks for the suggestions all! i actually do take a fairly active role within the character creation, reminding the players what types of monsters they fought where, or what classes are good in certain realms or activities. i've also plainly said that they can get a mulligan, since they were...

    my group needs suggestions.

a group that i've started DMing is fairly new to 3.5e and with an old friend rejoining our sessions, they're wondering what'd make a 'good' group. so far, they're a fighter, a warlock and a psion. i've suggested beguiler, ranger, or cleric. any suggestions, builds or ideas? thanks.

    High Level Cohort

if you want someone who might be able to tank and would definitely have some staying power, maybe try crusader 17? i know they're fairly hard to bring down and by that level, he'll be popping off a heal every few rounds or so. failing that, maybe a cleric 17? walking buff-bots aren't ever bad...

    Rules Lawyer My DM Evil

if pelor's anything like FR's lathander, why wouldn't he be permitted to sire children? they're most likely not though, and only tenuously related, due to domains, methinks. lathander, however, has 'rebirth, renewal and life' so if anything, i'd think his clergy would love children, legitimate...

    Race for a Factotum

you've mentioned the sharakim, so you'd be able to check out the same publication for the underfolk. they're a pretty sweet "near-human" package and get the extra skill points that a human does, but have dark vision as well as camouflage, light sensitivity is a non-issue with a simple alchemical...

Close Wounds (2nd) better than Revivify (5th)?

curses! foiled again by a persistent lack of sleep. i should've spotted that. thanks, fastest of the smurfenfolks!

Close Wounds (2nd) better than Revivify (5th)?

still, i know a diamond in the rough when i see one. up until about 7th level, most people can't afford raise dead, nor are they going to be fried by death effects and singed for 300 points of fire damage. close wounds might be perfect for low level adventurers, maybe keep a scroll handy?

Halfling Rogue 2, Cleric 3 - unbreak it, please.

maybe just continue along the rogue path as is, in hopes of getting a better sneak attack, as well as eventually getting more (some) tumble? at 6th level, maybe take the luck devotion feat from complete champion? i believe it allows you to round up damage to the nearest possible median should...

    Colour me stupid, but...

i would tend to agree. my only concern is that the other party are a druid, a warlock, a ranger/rogue and a psion. i just wanted to make sure that, by level 10, when everyone else has neat tricks, spells, abilities and cool effects to fall back upon, he's not cringing that he's stuck with "I...

    Colour me stupid, but...

OP here, i should note this stems from perhaps two players in separate games i dm; although they play separately, they're both utterly convinced that you cannot detract from BAB, much akin to the rule about never giving up caster level. i probably picked this sentiment up from them, and took it...

    Colour me stupid, but...

Maybe I've not DM'd a high enough level campaign, but it seems that the arms race that most front-liners and tanks have to gain as much BAB as possible isn't really warranted. I mean, 10th level fighter, with a strength of 20 and a +2 longsword is getting like +17 to attack, which means he'll...

    Incorporeal Undead Warlock

I was under the impression that invocations were somatic component only, but i could be wrong. Anyone confirm this?

    Dragon disciple

not that i'm anywhere close to an authority on the matter, a dragon disciple is widely considered a melee-centric class, or so i've been lead to believe. although it boosts a few spells, most of the benefits greatly cater to the front-line crowd. if you're considering dragon shaman, and not a...

identifying items a la Magic Item Compendium.

answered my own question! a close look at the spellcraft table revealed the following, emphasis mine: checking the MiC I discovered this to be pretty consistent with the numbers and CL used. welp, that about wraps this up. hope this helps someone in the future! :)

Feat to allow touch attacks to be ranged?

I believe you're thinking of 'Reach Spell' from complete divine: it turns any touch spell into a ray with a 30ft range.
