    Swordmage Tips

I'm playing a stormsoul genasi swordmage as well. Although I've only played one session with him, I did a lot of thinking about him so I think he's pretty good. In play he worked out well and I'm playing the next session in about a week so hopefully things will continue to go well for him...

    Auras: Area Attack or Not?

Do swarms take half damage from auras? Or should you split the difference and let them do normal damage but the swarm isn't vulnerable to the aura? So I get this straight, you all think implement and feat bonuses shouldn't apply to the aura damage rolls, correct? Tellerve

    Bugbear Strangler

I would say he can sustain minor, and still keep his -4 to the opponents escape check and then have himself a move and a standard. He could decide to try and move himself and the strangled pc. Or he could kick/punch/whatever an adjacent enemy. Or if you gave him a different weapon he could...

    Couple Dragon questions

Should Black Dragons have swamp walk, or because they are aquatic and have swim they decided not to give them that? For Green Dragons, their tail swipe is an immediate reaction to an adjacent enemy that doesn't move on his turn. This wouldn't ever mess up the charactes attack? At most the...

    Bugbear Strangler

I would do a minor to keep the hold, if he wants to benefit from the damaging strangle and keep the hold then its the standard action. However, it should be noted that the strangler's weapon is an oversized morningstar (a two handed weapon) so unless he is kicking or punching nearby enemies for...

    Reaving Rod and...

I guess my "big deal" about this is that it is something that can be done from 55 squares away if need be. All those other powers have to be right next to the character or object to get damaged. If the warlock uses Armor of Agathys that's great, but they are right next to creatures, wherein...

    Reaving Rod and...

Ok, well I wasn't thinking this high of level, but nevertheless. I see what you mean, although the group is making itself revolve a bit around the rogue with all the frost weapons. Which brings up how much I don't like those feats btw. In any case, my point is that the Warlock can pop minions...

    We are DRAGON KILLERS!

Yeah, kinda agree with Dooks on this one. Congrats all the same, but the dragon played sorta silly-like. I would have used those move actions he was wasting to try and back up, and hope that one of them didn't get hit by the fighters OA stopping power attack, and then squeeze past the flaming...

    Reaving Rod and...

I was probably too hasty with my mind's made up comment. I like to play devil's advocate to better see all the angles, and am hoping to have some other people's angles on this one. I'd also like to know what the 3-4 times more benefit entails. Maybe I'm making too big a deal of this, but...

    We are DRAGON KILLERS!

Congrats, sounds like a fun battle. But why was the dragon caught in the tunnel by the flaming sphere when on the other side there was a fighter and a striker coming to hit him. Did the tunnel open up to 10' wide or something? Poor little dragon :( Happy Hunting! Anyone going to use the...

    Goblin Hexer - Stinging Hex

Hmm, well, I'd be inclined to say that Bullrush is essentially a push, and the hex happens when you initiate movement, otherwise it is highly likely that creatures should attempt bullrushes if you are going to take 3d6+1 every time you are moved as that would likely do more than they are capable...

    Goblin Hexer - Stinging Hex

I was going through some Dnd mechanics with a new player and was doing a mock combat that included a goblin hexer, read the power and thought, wow that's a lot of damage. But as has been pointed out, only if you move, and you, the player hexed, should know something about the fact that moving...

    NEW TRAPS article!

So, maybe something like 1/2 level +5 for the traps stealth skill? That puts its 'passive perception' about on par with the DCs listed. Then roll a d20 and if it is higher than the passive use that? I'm a little unsure which I like best, the pcs seeing the traps or not, or just maybe a mix...

    NEW TRAPS article!

I think generally I agree with the "they see the traps" and as long as you don't have them always in a vacuum with no monsters around it won't be such of an issue. It would appear that the DCs are made so that they are just a bit out of reach for someone who doesn't have a higher Wis bonus and...

    Reaving Rod and...

Again, I don't think your comparisons are anywhere near equal. For your rogue example the rogue would obviously be hitting (ie using an actual roll) on a bad guy. And for him to get that Combat Advantage it'd have to be a non-minion. But either way, he is rolling to attack, and so therefore...

    Reaving Rod and...

I can see this argument a bit, but then if you use the Rod of Reaping and Corruption and instead of you "cursing" the BBEG you just curse a minion within 5 squares, killing him and then cursing the BBEG as well. The warlock can then do the normal action to attack the BBEG with curse in tow...

    Reaving Rod and...

Isn't that something likely to be in the errata soon? No roll, no distance, just LOS and boom, minion is down? Seems pretty annoyingly strong for a minor action. Tellerve

    DMG Nentir Valley

I just started a campaign of 4e in the Nentir Valley, a la Fallcrest, Keep on the Shadowfell etc etc. I'm not going to run Keep and that lot because of one the players is also in another game I get to actually play in and that DM is using them. So, I was looking at the Scales of War campaign...

Explain to me why are these feats good?

How do you figure you'll do that damage? The feat is pretty clear when it says, "This damage receives no modifiers or other benefits you normally gain on weapon damage." Unless it has been errata'd that I don't know about you aren't doing this correctly. Tellerve
