D&D 5E (2024) bring back the pig faced orcs for 6th edition, change up hobgoblins & is there a history of the design change

Orcs are to pigs what Neanderthals are to apes. Only, they didn't evolve naturally but where bred and infused with a semblance of sentience by an evil god. They were created as a foil, to spite and mock the creation of good deities.

D&D General WotC Has Owned D&D Longer Than TSR Did

Character customization and optimization is actually my least favourite part of the recent edition(s). I much rather prefer PCs be "archetypes". In BX, two level 1 magic-users are all rather similar, but at name-level, they can be completely different. All through "organic growth" during play.

D&D General WotC Has Owned D&D Longer Than TSR Did

Considering the fact that 1981 is the year TSR released BX D&D (Moldvay/Cook/Marsh) which is widely regarded as the most elegant version of D&D there ever was, the answer to your question is "NO." [emoji4]

    So, Wandavision?

I loved the Vision vs Vision "battle".

TSR Running list of potential problematic issues in TSR era DnD

Yeah, instead of helmets with horns, we now got funny looking humans with horns. [emoji19]

D&D General Old School DND talks if DND is racist.

By that logic, killing Oppenheimer would have been a good, non-murderous act?

TSR Running list of potential problematic issues in TSR era DnD

No, I completely get that, rest assured! As I said, I am FOR more representation of different cultures, but I fear that (as seen with OA in the past) there will be criticism of "pastiche", while disregarding the fact that ALL of D&D is pastiche.

TSR Running list of potential problematic issues in TSR era DnD

Yes, but "European style" is just as much a pastiche, in D&D. Norman knights, and Hungarian boyars, and Spanish conquistadores, and Teutonic crusaders, and Polish hussars, and Pictish warriors, are all "European", yet nobody bats an eye when they get lumped together as "vanilla D&D" style...

TSR Running list of potential problematic issues in TSR era DnD

The question is: WHAT traditional dress? Traditional "African"? People in Zimbabwe, or Cameroon, or Burkina Faso, or Congo, or Mali don't all dress the same!

D&D General On different tones and aesthetics in D&D

Oh, rest assured, the setting is anything but cutesy: It has (among others) goatmen aristocrats that keep charmed human slaves for fun, as cattle, and for all sorts of depravities, cabals of geomancers that aren't opposed to human sacrifice, a banished elf-lord waiting in the realm of faery to...

D&D General On different tones and aesthetics in D&D

On a quick sidenote, I'm eagerly awaiting the release of Necrotic Gnome's "Dolmenwood" campaign setting. And the artist (@pauhami on Instagram) that has been comissioned for most big pieces of artwork is simply fantastic. Have a look at these pictures, they're certainly different but soooo...

D&D General On different tones and aesthetics in D&D

My preferred era of D&D art is definetly 2E: Easley, Parkinson, Elmore, Caldwell. What I don't like: dungeonpunk (3E, Lockwood et.al.) and "newish" fanart with cute "monstergirls" , furries, and modern clothing (as opposed to pseudohistoric) By that I mean characters in leather pants, laced...

D&D General Old School DND talks if DND is racist.

In B/X Orcs aren't evil. They're Chaotic. Good and Evil don't exist in B/X, only the Law/Chaos axis. Heck, Chaotic PCs can even employ Orcs and Goblins as Mercenaries. Plus, there's this thing called "Reaction Roll". If you stumble upon a group of Orcs, the DM first rolls reaction. They could...

D&D 5E (2014) What if healing spells only created Temp HP?

Bear in mind this is an OSR game, but the idea behind it is (imho) awesome.

    D&D 5E (2014) Climbing a tower rules 5e

Throw? A rope (solid enough to carry PCs) with a grappling hook? 80ft up? Into a small window?!? I'd rule that to be an impossibly difficult feat.

    D&D 5E (2014) Unearthed Arcana: Gothic Lineages & New Race/Culture Distinction

Do you think that, just as "you dog!" is an insult in certain parts of the world, "you cooshee!" would be an insult in a D&D world? Maybe used by dwarves? [emoji6]
