WotC_PeterS talks about his "aggresive playtest" (with Le Rouse, SKR, & Noonan)

I hate to ask you this, but have you never worked at a company that has a "Secret" project? I work in software (as a consultant), and I've been on more then one project that all other people in my own company can know is "I work on a project called Harpoon for company <XXY>" So I don't find...

If not magic items, then what?

I thought the goal was not to eliminate magic items, but to eliminate the "Needed" magic items. So there will still be magic, but it will be the more interesting kind that let you do things in specal situations and make your character interesting rather then just make machanical changes. So...

Effects lasting until the end of the encounter, w00t!

We have run many per encounter abilities in the past (having played witht he TOB a bit) and it's never really a problem. Everyone sort of knows when an encounter starts and ends. Yes there have been some corner cases where two encounters have run together, but it's just a case of asking the DM...

    Remember when ...

As I see it there were three big differences between the launch of 3e and now. First: The growth of the internet has brought even more people into contact via the message boards. So you have many more people with strong feelings one way or the other. Second: A good portion of the community...

    Book of NineSwords

Now given I've only played with a Warblade but here's my take on things: A low level Warblade is more powerful then a low level Fighter At higher levels this balances out, due to the fact that the warblade is stuck in light armor and MUST go toe to toe with EVERYTHING so they WILL get hit and...

Buying a new TV - does anyone still buy tube TVs?

Yes you are right.... I stand corrected on that one. I'm obviously too used to talking to non-technical marketing people ;)

Buying a new TV - does anyone still buy tube TVs?

Remember also: Only the over the air TV signals will change over to HD in a few years. If your parents have cable or satlite TV, then a non-HD TV will continue to work fine even after the switch.

    Long-term planning for D&D characters

As someone who takes great enjoyment from planning a character, I really don't see any issue with planning ahead. And I really don't see how it's a distraction to anyone else... A couple of current examples from my games: I have a very lawful Warblade character in our campaign where we try...

Does sniping while hidden deal sneak attack damage?

Actually the adventure Eyes of the Lich Queen has almost that exact situation in one of the early encounters. The only difference is, the snipers have a very "spotable" hide check when a -20 is applied to it. So it won't drive the players quite as nuts, but it will still be a pain...

    Mirror Image vs Magic Missile

We always play that you can either target all the missles at one image, or use the spells option to shoot at multiple targets and have each missle hit a different target (e.g. image). Then we roll which target is the real target. Anything that hits the real target does damage. Anything that...

    Gaining AoO

We actually don't have a cleric either... So I was worried about that. However it is an Eberron campaign, and we do have an artificer with UMD... So I figured as long as I'm willing to spend the cash on a few wands of healing, I'll do OK. As for being a bit selfish.... The party is actually...

    Gaining AoO

I orginally thought of taking Karmic Strike, but I wasn't going to fit it into the character build until 12th level. At that point I qualified for Robilar's Gambit. So after thinking about it again, I decided to go with Robilar's Gambit. The +4 to damage you give your openents seems to be well...

    Gaining AoO

    Gaining AoO

I'm currently working on a character build that trys to make a number of extra AoOs. I remember reading at one point a Feat that allows you to take an AoO if an oppenent is next to you and doesn't attack you. But I can't seem to remember the name or source of that feat. Can anyone help?

    Help with Institutional Magic Abuse

Given that most towns have some sort of rat problem... If you press a few Wererats in the "Security Service", they can use their Rat emphathy ability to spy on others. No Rats aren't that smart, but they can identify simple things like meetings of large groups of people, or a group creaping...

ToB - Crtical Hits and Stances/Maneuvers

Thanks Nail, that was exactly what I was looking for.

ToB - Crtical Hits and Stances/Maneuvers

Quick question, if my Warblade is in a stance or using a maneuver that gives him extra damage on a successful strike and that strike is a critical hit, is the damage from the strike multiplied. For example from our last session: If my warblade is using a + 1 scimitar (1d6 +1 damage) with a 20...

    Building a Halfing Sorcerer/Rogue

Having played many levels of arcane trickster let me give you some advice. 1) DO NOT TRY TO SNEAK ATTACK IN MELEE!!!! You don't have the HP to handle monsters at higher level. 2) I suggest Hiding/Binking/Greater Invisibility to give your range spells sneak attack. 3) Focus on Range Touch...

Rope Trick vs. Leomund's Tiny Hut and better.

Can't you just do an area dispel in the area of the material plane where where the window is? (As it is an "ongoing spell whose area overlaps that of the dispel magic spell") That does not need to target anything, and as far as I understand would end the spell.

    Laptops at the gaming table

We sometimes use laptops in our games and have found them to be very useful and not distracting. However there is one simple rule we use in our game. "You shut yours down if the other players think you are being distracted." But then that's the same as our rule with the TV and such too. To...
