    Demons or Devils?

Demons. I guess the twisted madness of chaotic evil seems more horrific to me. But devils and daemons both make great villains. And I've used demodands, too. I guess that I just like fiends. :)

    Do you buy D&D Minis?

I buy the minis solely for use in my game. I have never played the miniatures game. The "rules integration" thing is of no concern to me, as I run 1st edition AD&D. I just ignore the stat cards. I don't think that they're expensive when compared to other miniatures - unless you try to buy...

"Previously on..." - Recapping the previous session

For my regular (weekly) game, I rarely give recaps. They aren't usually needed. OTOH, I sometimes go back to the town where I was born for vacation. When I do, I game with old friends. At the start of one of those vacations, a fairly detailed recap is usually needed. Perhaps 5-10 minutes.

Fantasy Art Staple That's Never Been Represented In-Game

In 1st edition (possibly 2e also) the pluses of a magic shield counted on saving throws vs. breath weapon - so this trope has been done in D&D.

Characters coming and going (your opinion)

I don't think that you're being at all unreasonable,ShadeyDM. You gave the player a choice ahead of time, and he wants to change his mind at the last minute. The DM is responsible for his campaign, and that is more important than any one character. That said, I wouldn't have offered the option...

    Speculation on Shadar-Kai and Fomorians

I think that the ant creatures are actually formians, not formorians. They are in 1E, anyway.

    Demi-human evolution

There was an old issue of Dragon magazine where they speculated on the evolution of various types of humanoid monsters. IIRC, the article described goblins and hobgoblins as being descended from different strains of australopithecus, and ogres as descendants of gigantopithecus. Michale Scott...

In AD&D, do you prefer being DM or player (most of the time)?

I prefer to be the DM, though I like playing, too.

To ALL ENWorlders: Did you play 1E AD&D?

I still play (or actually, DM) 1E AD&D.

The spirit of the game and the Sage

I don't know if staking a vampire in combat is "classic" at all. In the older tales, vampires are staked in their coffins, not when they're up and about. Staking vamps in the course of a fight seems more of a "Buffy" thing to me.

Which Ranger do you prefer, the original 1E ranger or the UA ranger?

What "thief like abilities" are you talking about? Are you thinking of the 2E ranger? I prefer the UA ranger.

[Savage Worlds] Can Savage Worlds handle a full-length campaign?

I've played in only two Savage Worlds campaigns so far. Both are still going (although one is a kind of sporadic at best) so I can't comment on the average length. The main Savage Worlds campaign that I'm in has lasted 4 years so far. That is also the longest :) I'm not a big fan of SW, but...

    Desert of Desolation rarity distribution

My friend and I each bought a case of Desert of Fesolation. We each got the standard distribution of figures (4 of each Common, 1-2 of each Uncommon, 0-1 of each Rare).

Do you play in games you aren't enjoying?

I have played in games that I didn't like, for the sake of friendship. If I actually hate the game (as opposed to disliking it), that's too much, though.

    D&D 4E Paizo and 4e - Vive le Revolution!

Actually, it DID happen. There was a 1 issue DC/Marvel crossover where Superman became the herald of Galactus. Now, back to your regularly scheduled thread :)

New campaign (pc as evil monsters), looking for ideas, comments, etc.

I've never run a whole campaign in this vein, but I have run a few Halloween adventures where the PCs were monsters. In my game the characters were a vampire, a werewolf, etc If you don't want a lot of intra party conflict, you need to give evil PCs a reason not to kill each other. In my games...

    The Deck of Many Things

Back in the eighties, I had a character draw from the deck and get the card that allowed you to gain a level of experience if you defeated the next monster encountered in single combat. As it happened, we left the dungeon just after drawing from the deck, so I was expecting the next monster...

The Great Wheel Cosmology as an "assumed part of a D&D world"

The arrangement of inner and outer planes was introduced in the first edition PHB, I believe (it may have been in Dragon issue before that). It wasn't called the "Great Wheel" (and looked more like a box than a wheel), but it was the same planes and the same arrangement as the Great Wheel. It...

D&D 4E What do you think of the 4E background to demons & devils?

Where I'm coming from: I like the Great Wheel picture, and I like alignment just fine. I'm no fan of Planescape. There are hints as far back as 1E that at least some devils were fallen angels. In my campaign, the first devils were exactly that, and they tend to be subtle seducers and...
