THREE elven races, plus half-elves ... but they say gnomes have no niche?!

(Heh) We know you're just joking, because everyone enjoys playing elves. Everyone.

WHY are elves so danged cool?

Wow. I didn't realize you lacked genitalia. How very elf-like of you. (What do ya think -- too over the top? Did I go too far? :\ )

Racial characteristics most likely to be played at your tables?

At this point, I see that someone has marked at least once each for humans and halflings. Any details to share on how those races were portrayed?

WHY are elves so danged cool?

I'm noticing the same thing, but that's a discussion for another thread.

Racial characteristics most likely to be played at your tables?

I've seen several grumbly, angry, dumb half-orc types. It doesn't require much effort.

OK, we're gettng a little annoyed here!

Sadly, this sort of attitude has become pervasive in society overall. People have learned it's easier to ignore anything they don't like, even at the risk of missing otherwise useful information or learning to develop social skills to work through differences with others. I think it does a...

WHY are elves so danged cool?

Anyone who does so in this thread will be asked to back off. It was clearly stated in the original post. (This does not apply to Eric Noah, who can be picked on at any time, anywhere.)

Racial characteristics most likely to be played at your tables?

Which of the 3rd edition core PHB races have been roleplayed by gamers at your tables most often via some stereotypical personality quirk or cultural references? This can include, but should not be limited to, dwarven gruffness, half-orc anger/thick-headedness, gnomish jokes, voice inflections...

THREE elven races, plus half-elves ... but they say gnomes have no niche?!

Wednesday, Dec. 19, 3:42 p.m. Oklahoma time: I mentally embraced Umbran and squeezed the stuffings out of him. I'm noting this on my personal blog, too. A day like this may never come again.

THREE elven races, plus half-elves ... but they say gnomes have no niche?!

I agree with you and others here who have expressed the same sentiment. I hope it's not a long wait. In the meantime, I also reserve the right to be disappointed and even perhaps outraged that the designers weren't willing and/or creative enough to do so for the 4th edition PHB.

WHY are elves so danged cool?

Not looking for heated arguments AGAINST elves. Really. So try to avoid picking them apart in this thread, and definitely don't pick on the message posters themselves*. I'm very curious as to why some people find D&D elves to be so danged cool. Please explain. Try to use as much detail as...

    Dragonborn: Boobs or No Boobs?

That should be put on a T-shirt.

THREE elven races, plus half-elves ... but they say gnomes have no niche?!

What no one here has addressed is the nature of gnomes' fluctuating descriptions over time and the effect those changes have on how players perceive them as an iconic game element. The writers of the original Dragonlance series, for example, took the gnomes and made them something else entirely...

THREE elven races, plus half-elves ... but they say gnomes have no niche?!

Thank you, fellow chief. Sinister motives? No. LAZY. Lacking creativity and effort. Please try to avoid repeating what people are saying in your own words. You're not very good at getting the intent right. It's insulting.

    Dragonborn: Boobs or No Boobs?

Well, since there was already such a HUUUUUGE demand to have the dragonborn race included in 4th edition ( :\ ), I'd assume this issue would have already been decided by generally canonized house rules and fan art.

THREE elven races, plus half-elves ... but they say gnomes have no niche?!

Edited above to make a point. You can substitute the new horned outsider race as well. What is published becomes truth because enough people repeat it and believe it to make it so.

Why are they making demi-humans taller?

:) I didn't vote against previous halfling design. Far from it -- I'm totally OK with the idea of a fantasy race that size, and even being as tough and strong as a "medium" human. I just assume some sort of magical biological nature or really dense tissue. ... I find the 4th edition...

THREE elven races, plus half-elves ... but they say gnomes have no niche?!

In my case, I've never met a player who actually finds elves interesting because, they say, the race is a weak cliche, at best. I've seen people roleplay dwarves and half-orcs and gnomes with stereotypical "ethnic" traits at the table, but never elves. (Even half-elves/half-humans have more...

THREE elven races, plus half-elves ... but they say gnomes have no niche?!

"No, honey, I didn't go to the store to buy that dress that I think is gawd-awful ugly for your birthday because I'm just not satisfied with my approach to it yet. My excuse has absolutely nothing to do with my personal feelings or a lack of effort. You can take what I'm saying at face value...
