    Historic module anthology?

The histories on some of the modules on DriveThruRPG/DMsGuild are often very, very good. Shannon Appelcline did many, but a few are written by others, as well.

Worlds Largest Dungeon Holds 'Secret Doors' Contest

I hope this version has more verticality in its design. I ran the original a couple times, and had a lot of fun with it. When someone (here on ENWorld, no less) said "Run region A as if it were ALIEN" things clicked. Each region just needed a strong theme to work with that may or may not have...

AD&D 2E Mere of Dead Men. Slave Vats of the Yuan Ti in 2025?

Sorry, it's been way too long since I worked on it and ran it. I just recall taking the various sites and making them way more about having a faction and/or situation, and then having a few of the villains more active, involved, and mobile. I created a roll table for those NPCs/monsters so I...

    Favourite mecha RPGs

Kill ENGN, which is sorta standalone but really an add-on for CY_Borg. It's got some create customization options, but the OSR chassis it's built on plays ultra-fast and makes it broadly compatible with a lot of other crazy stuff, not just on the Mork Borg scene, but also in the OSR generally.

AD&D 2E Mere of Dead Men. Slave Vats of the Yuan Ti in 2025?

They are a bit railroady with some weird assumptions about what the PCs are likely to do. But if you set it up more as a sandbox, and maybe make some of the villains a bit more mobile, it could be a lot more interesting.

Invincible RPG Announced by Free League

The supplement treadmill isn't something Free League seems to be interested in when it comes to their licensed titles, but given how much we got for ALIEN and a few others, clearly they are okay with doing it when it makes sense to. IMHO, I'm almost more excited for one-and-done or very small...

    Other Modes of RPG Play?

Versus mode is certainly a thing, but I've never really seen a working example of it. Streetfighter: The Storytelling Game, Marvel Heroic, and some of the various wrestling games can certainly handle it, and I bet some of them even assume it, but I've never run it. Streetfighter certainly had...

    Other Modes of RPG Play?

Dunno if I'm splitting hairs, but games like Cortex and Sentinels (and maybe Fate?) are narrative-ish like PbtA but also scene-focused in a different way that emulates comics or TV sitcoms in terms of pacing and "how much information is encapsulated in a single dice roll." I don't really know...

When did the "C" drop from CRPGs and when did "TT"RPG spring up?

I think most of what others are saying tracks. I've been active on RPG Net and ENWorld since something like 2004-2006ish, and had been involved in blogging before even that, and I didn't really notice a heavy use of the "TT" in RPG until quite a bit into the 2010s. I think the absolute explosion...

Shadowdark: tips for a new GM?

Precisely! It interacts nicely with Talents, too. If you're a "master swordfighter" thanks to a +1 to melee attacks and another +1 with a chosen weapon (Fighter with a Talent and Weapon Mastery), well adding that into the attack roll for disarm makes sense, but not grappling.

Shadowdark: tips for a new GM?

I just rule everything is an attack: if you succeed, you do the thing. "I disarm them!" Okay if you succeed on your attack, they are disarmed. Simple. The house rule part is this: on a natural 20, you can deal double damage OR you can deal normal damage AND perform a stunt. So you could deal...

Watching films at the cinema - also, RIP David Lynch.

Yeah, if it's a spectacle, I'm all for it. But with even a 46" TV (or whatever it is that I have, it's close to that) 98% of comedies, dramas, and horror films are best on TV, where I can pause it for any number of valid-to-me reasons, optimize the audio and/or subtitles to my liking, and avoid...

    D&D 5E (2024) I am so torn [UPDATE: I bought it]

Given that, I think my initial response still stands because until the OGL-->CC thing is complete and finished, the stuff I cry out about basically extends to this in the way of, "Until you see them actually release the thing you want, assume you may not get it, because shareholder priorities...

    D&D 5E (2024) I am so torn [UPDATE: I bought it]

WOTC are a bad company headed by bad people who will absolutely destroy the good creatives on the D&D team in a heartbeat in order to make D&D even more bland and profit-driven. On top of that, the good creatives on the team still are unable to put out useful tools and advice, and materials that...

    AD&D 2E Jakandor

Interestingly, the Charonti and the added materials for the Goodman Games OAR version of Isle of Dread are both great depictions of cultures that put a lot of emphasis on death, undeath, and ancestor-worship that steers it far away from the typical boring "necromancy is evil" stuff. That was...

    AD&D 2E Jakandor

I picked up the 3 books and worked it into my sort of "grand unified setting" experiment. Faerun/FR -- specifically the Sword Coast through the Hordelands -- was the western portion of a super continent. The Hordelands was geographically the same, but was basically the Sundered Empire (3E-era...
