    Harassment in gaming

There's nothing inherently wrong with companies making their products appeal to lots of people, but there's also nothing wrong with companies wanting to target niche audiences or specific tastes. If someone wants to produce or play a swords and sorcery game with chain-mail bikinis and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Save for falling damage?

That's bizarre, but you're right. I guess it was a house rule we always used back when I used to play, and I just assumed it was in the rules? Either that or my memory is so bad I'm thinking of an entirely different system. Either is possible.

    D&D 5E (2014) Save for falling damage?

So it's not that I missed it, it really isn't there? Hasn't half damage from falls for a successful save been part of the game from the start? Anyone know why it was removed?

    D&D 5E (2014) Save for falling damage?

I haven't noticed any saving throw for half damage from falls. Does this not exist in 5e or have I just missed it? Seems like that would be a good fit for acrobatics. The description says the player lands prone unless they take no damage...how is it possible to take no damage from a fall?

    Harassment in gaming

Wow. I guess judging people by the content of their character rather than by things they can't control, like race, gender, and sexual orientation, is just too old fashioned.

Rest and Injury at your table

    As promised: http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?483170-Wound-Levels-an-alternative-way-to-deal-with-HP&p=6870674#post6870674

Wound Levels -- an alternative way to deal with HP

My main problem with HP is their "100% fine until you're dead" function. I have no problem with thinking of HP as stamina and minor scrapes, but there is, in the RAW, no real way to simulate a character who is suffering from actual wounds (other than the Lingering Injury option, which I find a...

    Harassment in gaming

The statistics quoted in the OP are apparently from here: Being self-reported, with more women responding than men, I was surprised by the results: While that clearly indicates a problem, I'd be curious how it compares to other venues where thousands of strangers are crammed into a small...

    Harassment in gaming

I would argue that sexism (and racism, and homophobia, and physical threats and general out-and-out assholish behaviour) is very much a part of ANY hobby with a strong online presence. You don't have to understand much psychology to know why internet chatter can often be much more aggressive...

    D&D 5E (2014) Using 3d6 for skill checks

You could just as easily take the same approach from the other side.... "What skills do I have? Does it matter? If I don't take thieves' tools, I'll have nearly as good a chance of success as if I do." I think the entire point of having races and classes is because we want characters that...

    Harassment in gaming

She may not make the claim that ALL white males are terrorists, but she certainly paints the community with a broad brush: "the majority of men in the community are too cowardly to stand against the bullies and the terrorists. " "The majority of gamers ... are instead complicit in lower levels...

Rest and Injury at your table

I'm working on something like that, although a little simpler. Still trying to figure out how the magical healing will work. When I've finished I'll post it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Druids and Magic Items

Yeah, brilliant! Bet you never thought of just using common sense and reading the books.... :hmm: Seriously though, I'd just rule that anything worn merges with the form when the shapeshifting occurs, unless it's something specifically created for that occasion. If the player has hands (like...

    D&D 5E (2014) Limiting Short Rests

According to the RAW, characters can have as many short rests as they want in a single day? What's to stop players from stopping to rest after every single encounter? Sure, the DM can interrupt them once or twice, but too many times and it will quickly look like sour grapes on the part of the...

D&D 5E (2014) How might elven societies be different from the norm?

I like the idea of some kind of "elven bread" like LotR, where you need very little will sustain you. This seems to dovetail nicely with the "Goodberry" cantrip, so I've been musing about the idea of elves being able to grow something that is like a natural "goodberry". Maybe the berries were...

D&D 5E (2014) Minor Illusion...can it be cast over other objects?

Care to point out where I've said that? Or do you read minds? You ignored the second part of the sentence, where I said that doesn't matter. "the spell specifically says it has no physicality, so it wouldn't move in response to something physical passing through it." The fog wouldn't move...

D&D 5E (2014) How might elven societies be different from the norm?

Some good stuff there Celebrim, thanks for sharing. Couple questions: Do your elves use currency? Do they have anything resembling craft guilds? And if not, how do advanced things like armour and jewellery get made?

D&D 5E (2014) How might elven societies be different from the norm?

Since I only have personal experience with "what humans do", that's probably unavoidable. :) As I said above, while I want an elven city to make sense and feel different from a human one, I don't want to have to stop the adventure every time my players ask a question about their home and try to...

D&D 5E (2014) How might elven societies be different from the norm?

What would elven farming or livestock look like? I have a hard time imagining wood elves clearing large tracts of land for farming wheat or other typical staples. And would elves have typical farms with chickens, pigs, etc? I have a hard time picturing that too. But they're not going to be...

D&D 5E (2014) How might elven societies be different from the norm?

Apologies if this isn't the right forum for this.... I'm going to be starting up a new 5e campaign this summer with 3 players; two are playing wood elves and one is a forest gnome. I've decided their home base will be an elven town/city and the campaign will revolve around protecting the...
