[Sandstorm] What the heck are these new weapons?

Not to be snarky, but since it's based on a real-world weapon, how's it illogical? Edit: Ah- you said they were swords in Everquest.

Do you give out psionic treasure?

I'm of the camp that doesn't see psionics as remotely science fiction. More of an eastern/exotic/planar thing for me. Some of the power names are based in real world parapsychology, but I can ignore that. To the original poster, I personally haven't had many 3.5 psionic characters in my games...

    Why do we need Fumbles?

Edit: Never mind... like most things you come up with on the 24th hour awake, this wasn't all that funny.

    Hardbounditis

My understanding is that publishers sell more copies when a book is hard-bound. My own preference fits with that. I'd pay more for hardcover- who wants to have to replace a well-used book down the line? Aside from being more durable, it's more pleasant IMO to hold a hardcover book -it's more...

Israeli army frowns on D&D (merged)

I wonder if it's because roleplayers learn to empathise with vastly different mindsets?

    Review of Primeval Groves

I don't know what it is, but I've seen posts by Imruphel here, on RPGNet and on the Wizards site bashing Goodman Games. For some reason, he's got it in for GG. I will use all of my willpower not to speculate as to why. I will say that Joseph Goodman is a prince among men, and has never been...

    Gestalt Game Help

My reading of the rules says that "characters take two classes at every level, choosing the best aspects of each", and the language regarding choosing the better progression seems to mean "when choosing save bonuses, choose a given save from the class with the best progression." This can...

    D&D for Breakfast

That sounds like my friend Greg. We used to do exactly that. Good times. The best, really. I'm a die-hard night person. I can't get anything done most days until the sun goes down, and *usually* can't sleep well unless the sun's up. I only do about 5 hours of sleep, and the rest of the...

When to use Luck Points, Action Points, Hero Points

I think a simple "this is what would have happened to you:" sans machanical explanation would serve. You could also rule that a character automatically burns a luck point when he would be killed, lose a level, be petrified, or whatever.

    Dawnforge vs. Morningstar

Incidentally, I prefer Morningstar. Not just because I wrote it, but because it took the road less travelled. I'm the first to admit that Dawnforge is much more polished- and its mechanics are tighter- but I think Morningstar is a 150 karat diamond in the rough. The book as written is *very*...

    Stopping take 20 Searching.

Even though I posted early on in the thread, I wasn't saying that it was a particularly big deal. I was just saying it's not very dramatic, and dull for the characters (not necessarily the players- the characters have to deal with all the time used; it's mostly an RP issue in this edition) that...

    Stopping take 20 Searching.

Good call. I remember in 2e an episode where a PC was convinced the macguffin was in the same area as he was (He was wrong) and after a few "I *KEEP* Looking!"s the whole group wanted to move on. It bacame a catch phrase for us.

    Coolest. Gaming Set-up. Evar.

Rather than projecting, I've been wanting to rig up an HDTV under plexiglass. Of course I don't have the cash to blow on a spare HDTV, but when I do....

Core concept or rule that just bugs you beyond your ability to put up with it?

There's a microcosm of this problem when you're talking weapon proficiencies; take a level of fighter and you get everything except exotic weapons... they mitigate this with different BABs for different classes. While you can't really do the same for arcane vs. divine casting as written-short...

Can Lawful good ever be ruthless?

That's originally from Milton's 'Paradise Lost'... a lot of good stuff there.

How have minis impacted your game?

I'm glad to see that I'm not alone in thinking minis ruin the immersion factor. I've found that with 3e+ I've had to work harder and harder to keep combats vivid. Ultimately, I think it made me a better GM rules-wise, as I can't rely so much on player's imaginations to fill in blanks, but it's...

HELP WANTED..tactics, build for UNDEAD DRAGON VS COCKY PC'S

I couldn't get too specific with templates etc., but I'd think a stat or level-draining breath weapon would be a natch. You could also have its bones blaze with hellfire (fire and Evil energy damage on a hit), or choose another theme, like cold, making it ethereal, etc. Hmmm. a...

    Use Rope Useless?

Hell, I was a commercial fisherman, and I don't think it needs to be its own skill. A knot isn't that extraordinary a thing. It's like juggling; anyone with any kind of determination can learn a given knot in at most a week. Unlike languages, for instance. IMHO, some of the skill priorities in...

    The new Prestige Class format

Personally I like it. IMHO if it's worth making a prestige class it's worth exploring in-depth. Good call, Wizards.
