D&D 5E (2014) Two New D&D Books Revealed: Feywild & Strixhaven Mage School

The Samurai is a better Champion than the Champion.

D&D 5E (2014) Witchlight Promo Video: Ellywick Tumblestrum

10 year olds are on Twitter? That explains a lot.

D&D 5E (2014) Here Is The Full & Alternate Cover Art Of The Wild Beyond the Witchlight

While I agree, besides the appearance of their armor, I always got more of a Roman Empire* vibe from them, more so than samurai. *Roman Empire by way of Caesar's Legion in Fallout: New Vegas, really.

True, but I'm not getting any goblin-y vibes from him. My money's on an archfey (don't they have mutable appearances?).

Given the whole dark and misty aesthetic of the cover, possibly a member of the Unseelie Court? He seems pretty far off from the usual depiction of hobgoblins in this edition. If it wasn't for a ears I would say he was human (or something in human form).

D&D 5E (2014) Why do guns do so much damage?

Doesn't a person already benefit from half cover when behind an ally? Adding more shield types would be interesting though. Buckler: +1 AC but can be doffed/donned as a free action. Accessible to rogues, for thematic reasons. Heater shield: standard +2 AC Tower shield: +3 AC but slows you...

D&D 5E (2014) Two New D&D Books Revealed: Feywild & Strixhaven Mage School

I'm genuinely flummoxed by the cover for the Feywild book. I know that I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but nothing about it conveys fey and faeries to me, especially given the whole late 19th/early 20th century aesthetic.

D&D 5E (2014) Why do guns do so much damage?

But they are generally more effective against armor, because that's part of their raison d'être. The plate armor shown in those videos were designed to resist firearms, and are generally thicker, heavier and more expensive than what came before. But even so armor couldn't keep up with firearms...

D&D 5E (2014) Why do guns do so much damage?

Ignoring the argument regarding swords vs early modern firearms (which is frankly silly, given that the sword you featured in the video is one that existed in a distinctly firearm-oriented ecosystem), I don't see how it's unreasonable to say that an early firearm (such as an arquebus) should...

D&D 5E (2014) Two New D&D Books Revealed: Feywild & Strixhaven Mage School

Anyway, time to widely speculate on the contents. I tapped out of Magic before Kaldheim was released, so I am admittedly somewhat ignorant about Strixhaven as a whole. Would this setting work well as means to introduce a framework for detailed factions that a player could advance through?

Official homebrew maybe, but I can't roll up to an AL game with a Kor character. Hell, it's not even on DnDBeyond*, which offers such unofficial content as the Blood Hunter. *I'm aware that Beyond is neither owned nor operated by WotC.

D&D 5E (2014) Two New D&D Books Revealed: Feywild & Strixhaven Mage School

Strixhaven of all places? Zendikar feels like a better fit for a DnD book. Corporate synergy trumps all I guess.

D&D 5E (2014) Why do guns do so much damage?

Part of the issue is that DnD combat doesn't simulate a weapon's ability to penetrate armor. A simple flintlock pistol has a good chance of penetrating even well-made plate armor, while the weapon in your video would be less-than-useful against an enemy in plate.

D&D 5E (2014) Is Treasure and Magic Items Important To You?

As a DM I'm probably on the conservative side when it comes to magical items. They're notably uncommon in my campaigns and I rarely tailor them to the wants or needs of my players (at least overtly). I want magic items, even a relatively humble +1 weapon, to be something with a history behind...

D&D 5E (2014) What do you think should be done with alignment?

And the question of why is answered by an alignment? I do X because I'm Lawful Good? That's not very compelling. I would say the moral compass of character is something that should be revealed in play and not be pre-supposed within a cosmic scheme. A PC shouldn't know what the line is until it's...

D&D 5E (2014) What do you think should be done with alignment?

I would disagree that bonds and flaws are as up for interpretation as alignment. Traits such as bonds generally deal with things immediately relevant to a PC (bonds to a mentor, a city, a kingdom). These are things that can be tested, that provide interesting story hooks for a DM to work with...

Things that are often up to interpretation, and therein less-than-helpful.
