D&D 5E (2014) Small tweaks to improve Out of the Abyss [DMs toolbox; SPOILERS]

This can be done via cutscenes - the dm pans the camera away and back to the Drow who are chasing them. He shows them picking up on clues or using the things they do against them. Or he shows them being confounded. Drop a few of these into a session reated to what happened last session and it'll...

Pauper, - You arent alone! I get this too. If I enter a discussion from 'What's new' sometimes it works. But never from the news thread.

[UPDATED] WotC To Close Forums - Including D&D and M:tG (aka "Welcome New Forum Members to EN World!

I wish I could award this post XP (my computer won't do it on 'news' stuff). That has to be the most chilled out forum entrance ever. Welcome all new posters. I have no opinion of your previous forum because until earlier this year my interaction with RPG in general was stuck in 1984.

Fantasy Flight Games Acquires LEGEND OF THE FIVE RINGS

I think some of the disagreement I have with this point stems from the fact that you got the books when they came out. I was unable to and came to the game a bit later than I'd of liked. By that point something with really good integral setting information (Great Clans) and any historical...

Fantasy Flight Games Acquires LEGEND OF THE FIVE RINGS

My problem with it really was that if you wanted to say, have a Jedi in the group, it was a kind of 'bodge it together, knowing whatever you've created will have to be re-written in a few years' sort of thing. I've played it and as a player enjoyed it but it's stuff like that which will stop me...

RPG Evolution: Is the OSR Dead?

Man I miss gaming in the mid-90's. It was a time & place of some seriously epic games played by some people who never laboured under the idea that nerd was cool or ever needed to be. I have never had so many arguments about star trek or vampires since the end of that decade. Actually the...

Fantasy Flight Games Acquires LEGEND OF THE FIVE RINGS

This is MASSIVE. From a perspective of an roleplayer I hate the FFG model (release bare bones in core book, release 50 expansions at stupid prices at a pace that I can't afford with a product end I can't afford but they game scope is very limited without, also invent 50 new dice for no reason)...

Froghemoths & Flail Snails - Oh My! Chris Perkins' New Adventure Sneak Peek

The reason I mentioned giants is because it's been mentioned before on http://www.nerdsonearth.com/2014/12/dungeons-dragons-5e-release-schedule-2018/ (Scroll down to 'early 2016' - given the accuracy of this stuff up to and about Rage of demons, it's likely to be well informed) EDIT: Also just...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Another New Ranger Variant

I'm glad someone else noticed this. I was re-reading it to check I'd got it right. I'm split on this. I really don't like the 'spirit animal' concept but I do like the rules and can totally see why the choices were made but it irks me because so much good RP stuff is lost if the animal is...

Froghemoths & Flail Snails - Oh My! Chris Perkins' New Adventure Sneak Peek

Is this the next one? Or are we talking about one after the 'Giants Do Shakespeare?' (which as an aside, if the path is actually called that I will sell my child to buy). It seems very Barrier Peaks. The only other thing I remember the Froghemoth in is the latest edition of Gamma World (which...

D&D 5E (2014) Out of the Abyss in my grubby hands (pic attached)

That's...interesting. Perkins has said that the Ap's will be linked if you look hard enough. It speaks of a bit of a larger plan. Not sure how they'd even use that though, as most groups seem not to finish one adventure path, let alone link them.

Where did you find that? I've been looking through the site for something similar for DAYS.

So, What's The Challenge Rating Of All Those Demon Lords?

I LOVE that people got so caught up about Driz and he's not even in the adventure. That's a lot of wasted effort and pain people put themselves through due to rumour. Maybe in future all of us (me included) won't make so many assumptions.

Pathfinder Online Layoffs; Ryan Dancey Leaves Company

I've never bought Pathfinder Product, played Pathfinder or been part of the community: during the 'edition wars' I just ran Mutants & Masterminds or Old World Of Darkness and waited for 5th. But I've always wished Paizo good luck, because they made some damn good product during the 3rd era and...

    The Geekification of Everything?

I never thought of it like that. Maybe I just projected my value system on to everyone and assumed they wanted serious. I would argue that maybe this is evidence that a product is often dumbed down for mainstream success. I've also never met anyone who quoted Quest for peace. Wheras...

    The Geekification of Everything?

You might have a point there. Given how the UK general election turned out and how everybody I know believed it was gonna turn out, the reality filter concept is one I'm beginning to believe in many walks of life.

    The Geekification of Everything?

If we don't count stuff that I've heard of before, then both izombie & MITHC both count as 'done before' I'd also add that Grimm isn't exactly a new or underused idea (Fables/Once Upon A Time/10th Kingdom). Sleepy Hollow technically re-uses stuff but I'll give you that. It's still as much of a...

    The Geekification of Everything?

About this, I don't disagree. It perhaps explains why we haven't seen so much of it. You also have to have a very specific type of player to enjoy a situation where, for example, you have to let a village be wiped out to save a nation. My actual point (probably lost in bad examples) was that I...
