D&D 5E (2014) Does the Variant Human need a boost now after Tasha's changes

Giving the V human the bonus feat was to compensate for the other races getting bonus weapons, abilities, spells with the restrictions of where points are distributed. With that eliminated and the other benefits of gaining more skills/tools, it’s very apparent the gap has dramatically widened

D&D 5E (2014) Does the Variant Human need a boost now after Tasha's changes

Maybe we can sue them for ruining the game. Everyone else is suing them.

Whether array or rolled, the imbalance will still remain

D&D 5E (2014) Does the Variant Human need a boost now after Tasha's changes

Unfortunately, Tasha opened Pandora’s box with the option for races to trade each individual weapon or armor for a skill or tool. So an Elf with proficiency in 4 weapons can exchange that for 4 tools/skills. An Elf fighter would do that as they are already proficient in them. Combine that with...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tasha’s cauldron character thread

Which I am disappointed with as it was a perfect spell for them. Most classes have multiple damage cantrips, while the Bard has one.

D&D 5E (2014) Does the Variant Human need a boost now after Tasha's changes

With the other Races being able to place their bonuses any where, that makes Humans the weakest choice. The variant Human +1 to any 2 scores is trivial, even with the bonus feat at first level. Selecting an ASI boost for 1st level only makes your character on par with the other races for ability...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rewriting Favored Enemy/Favored Foe

For increase damage output, why not just have the 3rd level subclass feature bonus damage be applied to each attack, similar to the Paladins improved divine smite. Example Hunter’s 1d8 nice per turn to each attack at 11th level For the tracking/perception, offer expertise in Survival and...

D&D 5E (2014) Why are Rogue features untouchable for other classes?

I'll cast Feign Death first, then pry it ;)

D&D 5E (2014) Why are Rogue features untouchable for other classes?

Xanathar's Guide has prodigy. But my point was why not straight expertise? For Fighting Initiate, it doesn't offer 1 style and your stuck with that style. Its the full feature of martial characters in that it allows you to change it later on.

D&D 5E (2014) Why are Rogue features untouchable for other classes?

I did confuse the 2. Sorry Though Uncanny Dodge is offered to Hunter Ranger at 15th level as an option

D&D 5E (2014) Why are Rogue features untouchable for other classes?

You can offer a variance of it as for the Monk's Step of the Wind. Can offer a choice of 2 of the 3. I can see the Ranger having both Hide and Dash. "Dashing" through the woods in hot pursuit of their prey.

D&D 5E (2014) Why are Rogue features untouchable for other classes?

I think it can to a certain extent depending on what the player wants. As it currently stands, the barbarian can GWF without a dip in fighter. Or if a player wants Devils Sight due what they envision n the character, they don't need to 2 level dip warlock.

D&D 5E (2014) Why are Rogue features untouchable for other classes?

But that is what is happening now with features from other classes being offered as feats. Additionally there are some features that make sense for other classes or subclasses.

D&D 5E (2014) Why are Rogue features untouchable for other classes?

Especially with Tasha out, we see features from other classes available as feats. However, it seems that rogues abilities are untouchable. Why can't there be a feat of just expertise of 2 proficient skills, Cunning action, or evasion. There is a variant of Evasion as part of the shield master...

D&D 5E (2014) Are proficiency swaps too strong for some races?

Its not going to break the game but makes taking that race more appealing. They also can be relevant depending on game. Music instruments would allow a Bard to have a greater chance of using a magical musical instrument. Or a player gambler to be more proficient in more games. Or charlatan to...

D&D 5E (2014) Are proficiency swaps too strong for some races?

True, but that is not clarified. Also a player may point out that if they are already proficient in said weapon or armor, then it is a waste of a feature

D&D 5E (2014) So what variant features from Tasha’s are you planning to use?

Its not there but I am going to allow it. Metamagic and Eldritch adept are definite as well. Still perusing.

D&D 5E (2014) So what variant features from Tasha’s are you planning to use?

I wont allow the Rogue to gain the Fighting Martial feat. Having a ranged rogue get advantage to hit with Aim and +2 to hit with Archery is a bit much. Spell versatility would be allowed as why stick with spells that may not be appropriate and make it less fun to play. Enjoyment and friendship...

D&D 5E (2014) Are proficiency swaps too strong for some races?

I am confused. If you will allow a swap of all proficiencies for 1 tool vs one for one as stated in the book, then you think the original intent as in the book it is too strong. Otherwise why the restriction.
