D&D 5E (2014) Out of the Abyss - No Drizzt afterall?

Poor Graz'zt. There he was thinking he was one of the big three. This is the section I'm probably most exited about. Brings back memories of Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth where they released the demon lord stats in the appendix

D&D 5E (2014) Bounded Accuracy and Magic Item Scarcity

Yes we have some characters with a fair few items. It hasn't created a problem for us. We can probably tackle monsters a couple of CR higher than expected. Don't worry too much about the Balor issue - its more a problem with the balor than it is with all high level creatures.

    D&D 5E (2014) Converting characters recommendations

I have converted my long time character from Role Master to AD&D 2nd edition to 3.0 to 3.5 to 4e and now 5e. It works for us just fine. The biggest change was 3.5 to 4e as my character felt I lost a fair bit in play. 4e back to 5e worked really well

    ORCUS! EXCLUSIVE! ESCAPIST!

I'm playing a high level character and I can't easily hit AC 20 with my +14 attack bonus, especially if I take the -5 to hit. His damage is about 21 on average as he gets +2d6 fire damage per hit but Orcus would only take 18. I generally hit twice a round and do 40 or so damage. I can action...

    D&D 5E (2014) +1 Shield and Table p. 142-143 of the DMG

Here is a giant slayer battle axe I put in my current Wailing Dwarf based campaign. Trollthork Created By: Dwarves It is durable and has been treated with blueshine which gives it a gleaming deep blue appearance. History: Heroic Dwarven runes along the haft tell that it was crafted for...

D&D 5E (2014) CRs and what is going on?

Yeah, I should have said 'sometimes' rolling for items. I give out tailored items too although its exactly this that the CR system ignores - which is why we both ignore it I guess :)

D&D 5E (2014) CRs and what is going on?

I just put together a quick example of permanent magic items found as a party levels up from 1-20 and discovers treasure hoards all rolled as per the DMG. I tend to assign items rather than roll when I DM so thought a comparison of what I give out to what is expected if rolling would be worth...

D&D 5E (2014) CRs and what is going on?

If it helps page 133 tells us that an average campaign finds 45 hoards during its lifetime. The permanent items are on tables F, G, H and I. During the first ten levels the party might find an item off those tables roughly 11 times (using your calculation), most likely from table F. There is a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Observations

I wonder what would happen if you let them find a two handed sword Flame Tongue. Once you have that then the +10 damage part of the feat is probably not worth using that often anyway since the reduced damage from the misses offsets the +10 from the feat. I wonder if they would feel that the feat...

D&D 5E (2014) CRs and what is going on?

I'd say the PC would win pretty easily. I was testing out a conversion of my high level PC (Fighter) a while back and could defeat a CR 19 Balor reliably. I tried the same against a CR 20 Pit Fiend and couldn't last more than 3 rounds before dying. The CR ratings for various creatures are a bit out.

D&D 5E (2014) Scaling Rage of Demons for higher level party

It could be quite a challenge if you played the adventure as is, even with scaled encounters I think. Your party will have access to high level magic which could change whole sections of the way the adventure ran. And at these levels I imagine your players will be ready to fight some pretty high...

D&D 5E (2014) CRs and what is going on?

The balor is certainly weak compared to similar creatures such as the marilith or pit fiend. I would Add an extra sword attack Make the sword a vorpal weapon like it was in the past Use the demon summoning rules

D&D 5E (2014) What to spend your loot on?

I allow the players to buy common potions and 1st and 2nd level scrolls as long there is a wizards guild or local temples willing to sell. One of the characters is a priest of Waukeen and uses trade contacts to sell unwanted magic items for a decent price. I also will allow them to hear rumours...

D&D 5E (2014) Campaign Settings 5e- Why I want to Forget the Realms

Ah don't worry about those guys.. Drizzt is portrayed as a mid/high level fighter not a world beater. He fights orcs, ogres and giants. He struggles against high level drow and actively avoids big stuff like dragons. His area is a small section of the north. He won't be coming to save the day...

D&D 5E (2014) Waterdeep Campaign - How to use the Setting in 5e?

I would definitely go with option 2 as like you said for option 1 all of the contacts like shopkeepers, bar staff, guild people that they meet will be dead if you advance the timeline 100 years only a few sessions in. We wound down all of our campaigns between 3e and 4e except for one where the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Spellprepared/known for multiclassed spellcaster

My main problem with this is it becomes such a great choice. What 17th level plus wizard wouldn't take a level in cleric to get access to all those spells. Its better than anything they get from their own class. Do you think that the designers intentionally hid that option within the multiclass...

D&D 5E (2014) Interesting review of Fantasy Grounds software posted on reddit

There are some performance issues when you connect and the game has a lot of content in it. It seems to sync/download the whole thing before you can play. Best thing is to keep everything small and modular. I create a module for each mini adventure which just contains the maps, story and npcs...

    D&D 5E (2014) Spellprepared/known for multiclassed spellcaster

In that example you could prepare 11 (+wis) clerical spells and 9 (+int) wizard spells. You would have a full set of slots to cast any of these as you wish. The maximum cleric spell level you can prepare is 6th and the maximum wizard spell level is 5th. Some people in this thread are suggesting...
