    Magic of Incarnum?

I've had it since last year. I've yet to play it, but I really liked the system when I read it. I agree that the flavor can get a little cloying, especially when you've got overlapping effects, but most of that's easily worked around. Maybe next campaign.

    Player's Handbook 2 in play

The fighter alternate class features plus the new fighter-only or fighter-most-likely feats have gotten me to consider whether to take a prestige class with a fighter, which is something probably few people would've said before PHB II. I may still "prestige," but the trade-offs are actually...

Stat Block Problems w/ Hordes of the Abyss

I think I can partially agree with the first half, but the latter is demonstrably false, I think. (EDIT: At least as an absolute, which you may well not have meant.) Aside: I've done a little stat-block editing for publication. It is pretty excrutiating, and you really hope that you get it...

Thinking of D&D adventure in the general abstract

If I think of D&D that way at all, I think mid levels. At low levels, the PCs are too poor financially and too weak physically/magically/etc. to really take on the iconic trappings of D&D--decent (probably magical) weapons/armor, good equipment, potent area spells, and the like. The game's...

    Pronouns

    Finally--a practical suggestion! :D

Where do you prefer to do your roleplaying? (Online vs. Tabletop)

I think it'll always be tabletop, but I'm going to start what is expected to be a *long* Call of Cthulhu pbp here this month, which'll be my first foray into pbp. We'll see how it goes. I think there are potential strengths in character development there, and it might work better for a game like...

    Pronouns

I think you mean "number," which is singular/plural, not "case," which is nominative/objective/possessive). I agree with your basic sentiment as a general matter of style. However, as someone pointed out upthread, the use of the plural pronoun "they" for an antecedent of an unknown gender is...

Who's Gonna Drive You Home Tonight? Disney/Pixar's "Cars"

Went to see Cars with the kids last night. I'd heard medium-good to very good things about it, but my expectations weren't real high. I think it was a pretty decent movie--very well animated (of course) and the story was serviceable though not one of Pixar's best ones. The cars themselves are...

Wrestling coming to the Sci-Fi channel?

I guess I was thinking less of, say, 1992, when the network launched to the time described in this old CNN.com piece from 2001. It all comes back to money and ratings, of course, but it seems like SciFi was doing a few interesting things then. Now I just watch the two shows that I schedule to...

Wrestling coming to the Sci-Fi channel?

Because everything made by or related to Hollywood loses money, at least for accounting purposes. :D I'd decry the wrestling, but, really, SciFi has very little I watch apart from BSG and Doctor Who. I'm sure there have been *some* good things on that I haven't seen, but there hasn't been for...

Do You Sometimes Purchase RPG Books Just To Read (Not For Play Purposes)?

No, and I barely get through much of them anymore even for play purposes. I'm more likely to use them as a reference than as something to read, at least for supplements to core books.

In Addition To RPGs, Do You Play Wargames (Including Tactical Miniatures Games)?

I said no, but I have and I may again. I will say that I've been bitten--hard--by the board game bug lately: Runebound, Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, just to start. I have yet to try wargames again, though I did take a peek at my old Imperium Romanum II game from days of yore. This board game...

Which is better Star Wars or Star Trek?

I've probably been overexposed to both. Star Wars between and including A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back was the key element in my boyhood (born in 1969). Star Trek came a little later, but I followed pretty much everything from TOS (in reruns, of course) up through the end of DS9, leaving...

    Flaws

I took Unreactive once, but then took Improved Initiative as my bonus feat, so I'm not sure I'm doing it right. :p Some flaws not in UA seem pretty weak compared to the UA ones. I took Implacable (out of some Dragon issue) once for a dwarf fighter who was prety much not going to retreat...

Fast advancement in Age of Worms and other campaigns

As a related aside, my group, now about half the size it was a few weeks ago, leveled twice in one night at the start of Shackled City. I don't think I've ever done that before, even if we're talking about going from 1st to 3rd. But it may have something to do with the fact that this is our...

Doctor Who 1.12 (6/2/06) Bad Wolf (spoilers)

Glad I wasn't paying attention to the way SciFi spoiled the episode they were showing with the preview for next week--nicely played, SciFi. I'm probably not the best one to start this--I was in and out a little during the episode, and I was still watching the Cards-Cubs game when the...

How to: Cthulhu in the 20's.

I'm not sure, but I think (from the description, ISBN, etc.) that the currently-in-print edition of the 1920s Investigator's Companion combines those two earlier volumes and can be had at Amazon (and maybe elsewhere) in print for about the same price as the PDFs.

Is 3.x Your Favorite Version of D&D?

Nostalgia aside, for me it's no contest: 3.5 is the best. I'm a clarity/precision/consistency hawk, so 3.5 meets my needs there, and I don't find the gameplay experience to be any worse than with previous editions, so tie goes to 3.5.

Rate X-Men: The Last Stand [no spoilers]

Six. A not-horrible follow-up to X-Men and X2 saved by some good moments, but not enough of them for me. By contrast, I'd give X-Men a 7 and X2 an 8.
