D&D General Rant: Sometimes I Hate the D&D Community

This fight over preferences is going to happen in a game that's as big as D&D, where so many different groups exist within the fanbase that all want to pull and tug it towards their direction of what's "good."

D&D General Why Do People Hate Gnomes?

I don't like most demihumans and find them overly quirky

A critique and review of the Fighter class

Holy crap, you all got the Sorcerer King dude as well? I thought that was just Giant in the Playground.

D&D Celebrity Satine Phoenix & Husband Jamison Stone Accused Of Abuse Towards Freelancers

Anything to give the benefit of doubt to people who are potentially abusers, while giving absolutely none and making it nigh impossible for those making accusations to actually be believed, right?

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

I think I just aged like a decade or two from reading that post.

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Well, actually, if anyone should be looking for alternative games due to their unhapiness with D&D, it's the people who disagree with these changes. Not, you know, the ones who these changes are being made for. You're not going to get your game to feel like it was before, they're not going to...

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Feel like a lot of people would be happy coming over to the OSR rather than desperately trying to keep a system that's evolving to the needs of its new, larger customer base from doing that.

D&D 5E (2024) 6/6 news scoop!: Wizards announces "6X" for 2026! Not one, but six "expressions" of tabletop roleplay! [parodia filum]

Oh dear god, I thought this was real for a moment and felt my stomach drop at the thought of D&D encroaching even more upon the RPG space.

D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk: Why We Need Mo' Oerth by 2024

I actually did have something like that in a DCC setting I was developing. A meteor crashes in a huge inland sea, or lake, and starts altering the biosphere around it. There's a Lankhmar-esque city built on top of ruins from the former city (which was mostly submerged due to the tidal waves from...

    D&D 5E (2014) What rule(s) is 5e missing?

As someone that plays a lot of DCC, I can assure you that character funnels are indeed pretty interesting! I love how they're basically the game's way of playing out a character's backstory.

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't make the game too weird

I draw the line at weird becoming "fetish-y" and "uncomfortable" to people. But other than that, I like my RPGs weird. No elves, no dwarves, no orcs, no castles, no fighting rats in a tavern's basement. Gimme strange worlds to explore, ancient tombs filled with alien technology, sentient...

D&D General The Rubber Band Effect

Whatever the pull is, it's not nostalgia for me. Didn't grow up with D&D, especially not back during the 80s or 90s, and the only chance I had to play old D&D was in the 00s as a kid (I rejected it back then because I had a bit of a complex about being seen as a nerd). Got into a game of D&D...

Worlds of Design: Peaceful Solutions to Violent Problems

Highlight and emphasize rules and procedures for non-lethal outcomes. Morale rules, reaction rolls, monster profiles mentioning likes and dislikes, etc. Agree w/ Ath-kethin about DCC's XP model.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D and who it's aimed at

With Lankhmar and Dying Earth under their belts, it may just be a matter of time before DCC Conan makes an appearance (idk to be honest and it probably depends way more on the Howard estate, I'm guessing)

D&D General D&D 6e comes out, and the game also makes use of these dice, your thoughts?

They're very important when it comes to the "dice chain" system, where you roll up or down it depending on circumstance. Works nicely for giving players bonuses or minuses, without needing to think of a modifier. Kind of that game's advantage/disadvantage mechanic. Anyway, more dice helps gives...

D&D General How does your PC interact with hit points?

Good question. Probably something like a massive headache, or neural damage of some sort? I'm not too sure about the specifics, though. Maybe a bit over the top, but I feel like it's more cohesive with the POV I set up.

D&D General How does your PC interact with hit points?

They're all meat (in my games/POV). Every single one of them. However, not every HP and hit is equal. At Level 1, with a measly 6 or so HP each hit is dangerous, even one that deals 1 HP of damage. Experience and Levels represent not only the character getting better at their role, but getting...

D&D 5E (2014) What interesting niche do Gnomes have in your Homebrew Campaigns?

Everybody knows about the lawn gnomes. Relics of a time long forgotten, their purpose unknown. Perhaps a good luck charm? Still, they break easily.

D&D General How do players feel about DM fudging?

If anything, generic tools something like GURPS or Savage World (that still enforce certain tones and expectations due to their mechanics and areas of focus) is the multitool people want.
