    Baby > 4e

I posted on this once before, how the arrival of our first child and 4e were due around the same day. The baby was delivered Wednesday night in an emergency c-section. All is well, mother and child are healthy and strong but when I got home today and the amazon packages were in the door I...

    Skills for modern/future?

I've been trying something similar with using Star Wars Saga skills in D20 modern. In Saga, a skill like Stealth has several specific applications as a sub-heading. I imagine that 4e will do the same. To make the kinds simplified skill system we are describing here viable, wouldn't we need to...

Swapping SWSE Skills Into D20 Modern

That's interesting... so a classic 10th level pc with an 18 in the relevant ability and a +2 bonus from the proper feat will have a +19 on any skill he has maxed out. By my '4e simulator', he would have at best a 14. At level 20, the difference is more profound, with classic PC weighing in at...

Swapping SWSE Skills Into D20 Modern

Using Postmodern: Skill Groups to give a SWSE/4E feel to D20 Modern Okay, so my goal here is to mimic SWSE Edition /4e D&D skill mechanics for D20 Modern. I want characters to have some ability to use most skills, as the do in Saga (so 1/2 level bonus to all skills, trained or untrained). This...

D&D 4E Character conversion problems for 4e (Short Essay)

Currently I am playing a Hexblade/Favored Soul who is kind of a LN paladin. He would be easier to build and more effective as a 4e paladin, fill the exact same combat role, and have the same shtick of reducing the enemy's ability to fight effectively, and do all from 1st level, as opposed to the...

Swapping SWSE Skills Into D20 Modern

...and one more. GM Chris over at the great D20 Radio forums suggested the following for moving non-skill based Saga material into Modern: "You know? I'd do this. I'd nix the Defense Bonuses for each class, as well as the saves... and make it such: Strong Hero: +1 Fort Def, +1 Ref Def, +1...

Swapping SWSE Skills Into D20 Modern

Got it! Good product! This is very interesting- I could use the skill groups from this product and apply the SWSE skill rules to them- so treat the groups a character can acquire through classes and starting occupation as trained, the rest are untrained and all scale with level progression...

Swapping SWSE Skills Into D20 Modern

SWSE seems to lack the non-combat depth of D20 modern. We use modern for everything that's not killing monsters with swords and spells, such as COC-style games, old-west setting adventures (with Sidewinder: Reloaded material), and some space marine sessions we've run. Saga would be fine for the...

Swapping SWSE Skills Into D20 Modern

This has given me a lot to think over. I posted the same question over at D20 radio and it was suggested there that I bring the condition track in as well. I guess my main motivation is to try and get skill challenges into Modern and with the current skill system it just doesn't work. Everyone...

Swapping SWSE Skills Into D20 Modern

Oh, and this for certain: "Climb, Jump and Swim as separate skills. Lump them into a generic Athletics skill and be done with it. Individually, those skills just aren't good enough to make them worth the resource cost of acquisition, but together they are a great skill that any adventurer...

Swapping SWSE Skills Into D20 Modern

Very helpful. I could just reconfigure the skills to be better matches for the the six basic classes, but there are dozens of prestige classes and handling it on a case-by-case basis means my players would have to ask me what the options are before deciding on a class. Well, I'm closer to...

Swapping SWSE Skills Into D20 Modern

Anyone else tried this? I don't feel that the range of classes, feats, etc in Saga are suitable for a Modern-setting adventure, but love the ease of the skill system, so I'm thinking I could just wedge that onto the D20 rules, dropping the current skill system. This also lets me continue to...

    Anyone else enjoying these podcasts?

As I'll be running our Saga game, I greatly enjoy their breakdowns of the core classes and the various options/builds. I have players who like to optimize so now I'll have some idea as to what they have in store for me! -Z

    Anyone else enjoying these podcasts?

Thanks to the great podcast round-up that's been on the front page a few times, I've been turned on to two fantastic podcasts that deserve a shout-out: 20 Weeks of Hell http://twentyweeksofhell.podbean.com/author/twentyweeksofhell/page/2/ The idea here is that a gaming group plays a different...

Boston Gameday - Sat, March 15th (FULL!)

I had serious fun today! A great old-school crawl through Castle Zagyg then a mind-blowing D20 Future game that dared asked the question Who would YOU make security chief of your space cruiser - Maxwell Smart of Zap Brannigan? Props to Ghul and Silvermoon for running two great games and big...

    SAGA Condition Track?

I was wondering about the condition track as well, as there are so many powers and effects in D&D that would be served by such a fetaure. Things like hexes, poisons, etc could all be tied to the track. But then I realized if the designers tied too many powers or abilities to the condition...

    Your group's tributes to Gary

We had a game scheduled for Tuesday night already when we got the news. We didn't do anything formally but it turned out to be a brilliant session with lots of excitement and the kind of combat where all the players are pulling out all the stops. A few social encounters as well and everyone had...

    Ranger powers- is this correct?

The ranger example has the ability use Hunter's Quarry as a minor action to target one enemy and do an extra 1d8 every round, and can use Careful Attack in each round as well to be a total of +10 to hit...at first level. He does 1d10+4 +1d8 with each hit. That still seems like a lot. --Z

D&D Experience: Questions YOU Want Answered?

How do you interrupt the cellular mitosis?!? Can't we see the unfertilized host eggs?! ;) But seriously, how do the static perception and insight skill mechanics work in play? does the DM just say, 'you see a kobold behind a bush' with no roll? that seems so strange to me! --Z
