D&D General What wastes time at your table?

They don't all need to make it to level 20.

D&D General What wastes time at your table?

That doesn't waste time - it's efficient. The dungeon crawl is over in record time.

    D&D 5E (2014) Different flavors of healing

There needs to be more necromantic/blood magic healing. Life transference has fantastic flavor to it and a subclass built around similar things (ideally, not a bard or cleric) would be very, very cool.

D&D 5E (2014) PHB Humans are the most mechanically boring race. How do we fix this?

I am of the opinion that variant humans were probably meant to be humans and they painted themselves into a corner when they decided to make feats an optional rule. Once stuck there, they phoned in non-variant humans, and the result is... not good. How on earth don't they have a few extra...

    D&D 5E (2014) Which played-out D&D trope needs to die?

I think you can be bored without having the background of a tortured soul, unless you are defining happy as "all material and existential/metaphysical needs met", and no, one in such a state wouldn't do anything, much less adventure, without being forced. But even there, it could simply be that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Does the Artificer Suck?

It's not for me, but other people seem to really like it. I could say the same for Bards.

    D&D 5E (2014) Which played-out D&D trope needs to die?

Perhaps, but some people just get bored and want a different life. And 18-20somethings think they can't/won't ever die, so adventuring doesn't seem that crazy a career path. In fact, they might come from the most happy, stable, boring family ever, and turning to adventuring is a form of rebellion.

D&D 5E (2014) Hex is a WAY better spell than Hunters Mark

Mark is verbal only, which might be handy for certain builds. The ability score effect of hex is handy, but not that huge (not huge enough to take a feat to acquire hex when mark is already available).

D&D General Why do we Round Down???

Because it is a net reduction in power for most of the roundings, with a handful of exceptions, and also simple.

    D&D 5E (2014) Blur vs Shadowblade for a Bladesinger/Rogue multiclass

Shadow blade becomes quite nice when dim light is plentiful, for the easy access to advantage. When it isn't, I'd be tempted to use blur instead, unless I had cunning action disengage and enough frontliners to feel like I could get out of harm's way. SB is also a bonus action to cast, rather...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Annotated PHB

It is a long leap to get from "convenience samples are not representative" to this. Relying on those survey responses as being accurately representative is a little like relying comments under political stories on a news organization website as reflecting the electorate; they aren't terribly...

D&D 5E (2014) Giving the arcane gish an identity.

In the MMO-like usage of the word hybrid, though, a stabnerd must be a hybrid: They cannot be as good at magic as a full caster, and they cannot be as good at stabbing as a full martial (whatever that might be, but lets just consider fighters and rogues). They may have some elements of each...

D&D General on how to build a races story?

A culture, a people, a nation, a tribe. We don’t need speciation. It could be as simple as the local well was touched by a hag and now everyone that lives there is blue. It isn’t speciation that is important, is it? It is what makes them culturally unique.

D&D General on how to build a races story?

Given discussions over the past year I don't think that is universally true, and it is a simple enough thing to address from the get-go when designing a new culture.

    D&D 5E (2014) How is 5E like 2E?

Not nearly as many yet. But, archetypes do a good job of evoking 2e kits and 3e prestige classes at the same time, which is overall a pretty clever threading of the needle, design-wise.

D&D General on how to build a races story?

At the risk of starting a war, I'd make a story about a people rather than a race, but that's me. That aside - there are dozens of examples in inspirational literature. Crib something that sounds good.

    D&D 5E (2014) Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

I didn't realize this was a competition. In that case: Forestalling the "because it is popular" argument, and setting aside flavor, what makes the Champion good? And, is it good at what it does relative to other options? Remember, I am not asking if it is popular, but if it is effective...

    D&D 5E (2014) Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

No, it was forestalling the fallacy. I'm sorry that bothers you, but that's what it was. If you had no intention of making one, you'd have ignored the sentence.

    D&D 5E (2014) Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

"Champion makes it easy to own" would have been a pretty good slogan, if only the subclass actually did make it easier to own.
