I completed a semester of student teaching and had just begun my second when another teacher in the department (English) quit (the school refused to accept his policy of giving away answers on standardized exams and so rather than deal with the powers-that-be, he left an opening for me.) As...
Ptolus. . .Ptolus. . .Ptolus. . . I have been increasingly excited about this project since Monte announced a "secret project for 2006," but now, I'm unemployed and on vacation (school teacher/gamer multiclass) and nervously waiting for word back on an application I just submitted.
Thinking...
I haven't yet begun to integrate Ptolus, per se, but I spent $120 months ago without flinching. On a budget like ours, it's tought to justify a $120 setting book. Luckily, with this one, it's easy: This is Monte Cook's Homebrew, the one in which 3rd edition was written. Urban adventure...
So, the whole difference is in the elimination of the initial front-loading of the saves for every class? I kind of like that front-loading. I feel like it somewhat ameliorates the inherent disadvantages of multiclassing.
Is there an opportunity to abuse the method I use? Something that...
Thanee,
How is it different?
I'm not sniping. I really don't get it. I've been here long enough to learn to trust your math and methods, and I am one who would rather put in the extra effort to get the right answer. I really don't understand the intricacies of the method you sketch out in...
Delak's character from post #1 would work like this
Class A:
Monk 3/Cleric 4
BAB 5, F 7, R 4, W 7
Class B:
Sorcerer 7
BAB 3, F 2, R 2, W 5
Final character:
BAB 5, F 7, R 4, W 7
just like a monk/cleric multiclass, but with a familiar and spells.
multi-classing gestalt characters has always proven to be a nightmare for me, so after reading this discussion, I have an idea on how to improve the way gestalt stats are figured.
Let's see if I can explain it while brainstorming it:
Each gestalt character has an "A" class and a "B" class...
Not being familiar with the works you mention, I don't get it.
You want casters in your game to snap their fingers and pantomime hammering a bongo drum with their elbows when casters in other games are still flapping their arms like wings while balancing on one foot?
What do you mean by...
Now let this be a lesson to all you others out there. Words may not break bones, but they can still be upsetting.
Thank you, Fru-fru, for helping me to see that I have probably gotten more worked up over this product than is healthy.
I just remembered - there's a Google(r) Desktop gadget that...
Arizona's close to California. How come Frakathka's gotten his copy and I've not yet gotten mine?! I'm gonna throw a fit and a tantrum and hold my breath until it gets here . . .
. . .

Okay, regaining consciousness. . .checking. . . DAGNAB! it STILL isn't here. :]
Your Ptolus preorder?
Have you recieved your preordered copy of Ptolus already? What's your impression? When will mine arrive? How do you think the binding will hold up in use? When will mine arrive? How are the unpreviewed illustrations? When will mine arrive?
Spill!
I played through a bit of A Paladin in Hell and I decided that Monte Cook was a good author for adventures. I read the 3.0 DMG, and became a devotee. I have yet to read anything from Malhavoc that I don't like. It's compelling, well-written, well-edited, and (with the exception of the print...
