    Alignment alternatives for non-fantasy settings

Hey, sorry I took so long to reply to this. ;) aww shucks! I get that, and I'm not against rethinking the terminology, I've hit snags so far where I've wanted to use 'tech' or 'technology' elsewhere in the setting but have avoided doing so in order to avoid confusing things with...

How to Encourage Melee Combat in a Sci-fi Setting? (5e)

So, as some of you may have seen from my other recent threads; I'm developing a sci-fantasy space opera setting for 5e. One of the more 'meta' issues I have rattling around my head is 'why would intergalactic, tech-advanced cultures, with access to all manner of guns, still produce a great...

Lots and Lots of Spells Converted to 5e

There's some awesome stuff in here, next time I play a spellcaster I'm definitely going to be raiding this bad boy! One thing: I'm assuming you wrote this before reading the elemental evil player's companion? I believe that some of these spells (absorb elements for definite) are in that book...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

I can't help but point out that just because history doesn't seem to point out any 'equally trained women who won' doesn't mean that they didn't exist. You have to think about who wrote that history (in the west at least), in the more recent centuries it would likely have been academics or...

Looking for a Character Sheet I Can Mod for Homebrew

Basically as the thread title says; I'm looking for a sheet I can alter slightly. I will need to add in some new skills and get rid of some RAW ones, be able to change things like 'spells per day' to 'powers per day' or whatever. Something that could be opened in MS Word would be awesome, but...

    Sorcerous Magic Item Use Houserule

I think this is awesome, but with a lot of potential for abuse if it is just a flat house rule available to all sorcerers without any balancing. I agree with Redthistle though; this could easily be turned into a very unique Sorcerous Origin; perhaps the character gained his powers as a sorcerer...

    (5e Class/Conversion for Sci-Fantasy) Augmented (WIP)

I think I can quite easily adjust the 'Order of the Mutant' archetype from G&S's new Witcher to become the Splicer for the Augmented, i think the new class is cool and it will save me a fair bit of work.

    (5e Class/Conversion for Sci-Fantasy)Psion?(WIP)

Technomancer awakened discipline added, need some critiques / suggestions. Particularly as concerns scaling the familiar; I'm hoping that with all the animal companion/ranger discussions that were just dying down when I returned to the forums, there will definitely be some opinions on how to go...

    (5e Class/Conversion for Sci-Fantasy)Psion?(WIP)

Thanks for the suggestions :) I've rifted on them and I like the sound of Luxiat or Prism, but am torn between them. I've updated the OP with the 1st draft of class so far, including all base features, and made a start on the archetypes.

    Alignment alternatives for non-fantasy settings

First of all, thank you for an awesome, in depth response. :p I can see how there could be overlap, but I don't think it's too big of a deal because that overlap disappears if you use an opposite alignment. On explanation of good-evil and chaos-law, an newbie d&d player could say the same...

    Alignment alternatives for non-fantasy settings

Hey everyone, a while back in the development of my homebrew sci-fantasy setting I hit the little conundrum of what to do with alignment, specifically whether it had a place in my setting or not. Then when I decided that it did, how to go about implementing it, and what it should say about a...

    New Monk Tradition: Adept

Rather than adding in extra ki, why not give the adept some mechanic to allow her to recover ki that she has previously spent? Perhaps something keying off the fighter's second wind like: Introspective Focus Beginning when you choose this tradition you learn new meditative techniques that allow...
