D&D 5E (2024) Reworking the 2024 Hiding rules

Nah, it just means that you can actively use your action every round as opposed to just getting the initial check. I always default to the passive check as a minimum but that’s just me. Unless they’re doing opposed rolls.

Donnell, with The Colonel in tow, had just snuck past the gates invisibly and were on the cliffside. "Ideally, everyone will be asleep," someone had said telepathically in his mind. Donnel responded, "Yes, and then it's 'all clear' for everyone!" A third...

    D&D General Bastion Mapping Tools

For multi level buildings, I upload each level and then embed them into a rollable table. It’s designed to give you random encounters that you can drop onto the map. But I use it for buildings because, once you drop it on the map, you can toggle the image to any floor you want.

Technically you are at disadvantage to sneak if you move faster than half your movement speed. Same with survival checks

D&D 5E (2024) Potion miscibility, permanent effects and using potions in the future.

Private Sanctum and Teleportation Circle can be made Permanent by casting them every day for a Year. There are other spells that are permanent - I think True Polymorph - if you concentrate on them for the duration. All these can be dispelled. Edit: They changed the wording, it seems...

    D&D 5E (2024) Reworking the 2024 Hiding rules

Yeah, and hiding in a crowd of people is a thing too. You could be in plain sight and still sneaking up on someone. I did a big write up earlier in this thread but I guess it was too wordy for people to pay attention to. The point is Hiding is more about Target "Awareness" and a Target's...

D&D 5E (2024) Potion miscibility, permanent effects and using potions in the future.

Permanent is dispellable. I'm not sure how often people are targeted by dispel magic in most games but this doesn't seem like a big problem for a game or game breaking in any way. The monk will get some good use out of it for a while until an enemy decides to end it. If I play a Wizard and...

D&D 5E (2024) Potion miscibility, permanent effects and using potions in the future.

In game terms, Permanent is a duration. If the effect were instantaneous, it would change their strength and couldn't be dispelled. Instead, the duration has gone from 1 hour to permanent and can, therefore, be dispelled. So, I'd say the mixing table still applies. Since they have a mixing...

    D&D General Bastion Mapping Tools

I did ours up on roll20. Once I knew where it was and what kind of terrain, I gave people the opportunity to create their own buildings and stuff so I could upload it in roll20 although, in the end, I did most of it myself. You can make multiple people DM so it allows people to add stuff. We...

don’t take my word for it see below:

    D&D 5E (2024) Reworking the 2024 Hiding rules

It’s not that straightforward. Invisible means you can’t be seen. Hiding means your location can’t be pinpointed. Because, in this game, you can’t be targeted if you’re hiding but you can be targeted if you can’t be seen.

This only seems to deal with sight. Which is the biggest problem with hide rules in general.

In real life, Dire Wolves, resurrected from the dead

I saw that in the Times article. But, for the record, I was being facetious. Maybe I should add a winky face to my post.

    D&D 5E (2024) Reworking the 2024 Hiding rules

I kind of like the distinction of being aware because it lets you know whether you should roll against a passive perception and when a character can start actively looking for hidden characters. From what I remember of the rules, that was a confusion for some people. If they're aware, they can...

    D&D 5E (2024) Reworking the 2024 Hiding rules

Reposting my final thoughts: Hide: You may make a hide check to avoid Detection or to prevent characters from being Aware of your presence. Make a Stealth check vs DC 15 or 10+ highest Perception check of the characters you are attempting to Hide from. Failure means the target becomes Aware...
